Only 27 days Until DLV 2010!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Diva Las Vegas 2010:

Welcome to those who just joined the list. If you have any
questions or concerns, please let us know.

If you haven't yet registered, please see the info below
on what you need to do to get in on Diva Las Vegas 2010.

If you have registered already, see the discussion on
activity sign-up below.
. . . . .

There has been lots of good conversation lately on the
Diva Las Vegas Discussion Forum, on line here:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlvdisc/
. . . . .

We are now less than a month away from the big event!

BIG THANKS to the many DLV volunteers who have worked hard
to make DLV happen! We have a very full and rich schedule
of all kinds of activities this year.

There have been many changes and additions to our schedule
since the last mailing. Although some more additions and
changes will likely happen, almost everything that will
require a headcount, sign-up, or advance payment will be
solid next Monday.
. . . . .

Our turnout projections are still converging in the 180-ish
range, which will be a new record if it happens. A total
turnout of 200 is not out of the question.

Please remember that you will never see the entire group
in any one place at any one time. The two largest single
gatherings of our people will be on Monday and Friday
evenings of DLV week.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Steps to take:

Here's what you need to do if you want to get in on DLV but
have not registered yet:

1. Read the web site very carefully.

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/

Be absolutely sure that you know what DLV is and what it
is not! A major misunderstanding is to presume a much greater
degree of similarity of DLV to other TG events.

Be sure to read the following pages carefully:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2010/expect/
(Introduction and what you can expect.)

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/faq/
(Frequently asked questions.)

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/roadmap.html
(Summary of steps to take.)

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dress/
(Collection of dress-related items.)

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dress/nutshell.html
(Behavior, Dress, and Restroom guidelines.)
. . . . .

2. Register for DLV.

You can register on line here:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/register2010.html

Registration is simple and easy.

Please note that you must register in order to participate
in DLV 2010. It's not optional, sorry.

You'll need to be registered and validated by Sunday, March
21 (that is tomorrow!) in order to get in on the first
round of activity sign-up. See notes below.
. . . . .

3. Make your travel and lodging arrangements.

Air fares are still reported to be reasonable. FOR NOW!
Do not procrastinate! Prices rise sharply, often with
no notice, as the travel date approaches!

Ditto with hotel rates. Do not procrastinate! Hotels will
often sell out with little notice as the dates approach!

You may stay wherever you wish, however, we are suggesting
four specific hotels. Information appears here:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2010/2010hotels.html

For DLV 2010 each of our suggested hotels will have an
on-site host or hostess who will act as a resource person.
An informal daily get-together, in addition to the main
scheduled activities, is planned at each of our suggested
hotels. Information on these will be given to those who
indicate they will be staying in these hotels.

One other note is that if you will be requiring local
transportation to our activities, we strongly suggest
that you stay in one of our suggested hotels and use
the daily get-togethers to coordinate the sharing of
rides.
. . . . .

4. Sign up for optional activities.

Activity sign-up starts this coming week! Please note that
you must be registered and validated by Sunday, March 21,
to get in on the first round of activity sign-up!
. . . . .

5. Get ready for what may be a life-changing event!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Activity sign-up:

A major milestone in the path toward DLV will be happening
over the next several days.

Many of our activities are on what we call a "no sign-up,
just show up" basis. This means that if you are a registered
and validated attendee, you can just walk right in and
participate with no additional action on your part.

However, several activities do require some kind of a
headcount, sign-up, ticket purchase, etc.

This year we have 38 optional activities which will require
some kind of advance sign-up or other advance planning to
attend and participate.

Our activity sign-up time is when you tell us which of the
optional activities you will want to do.

Here's how this works ...

During the week of Monday, March 22, everyone who has a
validated registration for DLV 2010 will receive a special
e-mail with a link to their own personalized activity
sign-up screen.

These will be sent out in batches, lowest roster numbers
first. Those of you who have been attending for many
years can expect this early in the week, those of you
who just registered as newcomers can expect them toward
the end of the week.

In any case, if you have a validated registration for
DLV 2010 and don't receive this by Friday, March 26,
something is wrong and we need to know about it!

Activity sign-up takes only a few minutes. Just look
over the list, and check which activities you (and
your SO, if attending) will be doing.

VERY IMPORTANT: Please read the activity sign-up screen very
carefully, paying particular attention to such things as
payment instructions, deadlines and cut-offs for sign-up,
cancellation, and for payment. Please note the DATE and the
TIME of deadlines. These items have been a frequent source
of misunderstandings and disappointments!

Please sign up for activities promptly, as we are expecting
a record turnout this year, and many of the optional
activities are expected to fill to capacity early.

You may change your selections at any time between your
first sign-up, and April 14.

We have a special "line place holder" for most of the
optional activities. If you sign up for something,
change your mind and cancel, and then change your mind
again and sign-up again, in MOST cases your "place in
line" will be that of your original sign-up for that
activity.

When the Large Final Mailing comes out, you will receive
a summary and "itinerary" of what you are signed up for.

Various notes:

Big Sisters:

It's natural to be nervous before heading to an event such as
Diva Las Vegas, particularly if you're new and don't know any
of the others yet.

The Big Sisters of Diva Las Vegas can help!

Big Sisters are volunteer DLV veterans who are standing by to
help as needed, either prior to DLV, or during DLV.

Big Sisters are intended mainly for those who are new and don't
have much public exposure, or those who may be feeling a bit
uneasy about the upcoming trip, but Big Sisters are available
to anybody who wants one.

If you haven't been out in public at all, if you're new to public
exposure, your exposure has never been in the mainstream before,
or if there's any reason you feel uneasy or uncertain about the
upcoming trip, the Big Sisters are here to help, either before
DLV, during DLV, or both.

Before DLV, if you would like to correspond with somebody
one-to-one about concerns regarding DLV, just send a brief
note to dlv@geekbabe.com and say that you would like to get
in touch with a Big Sister. Examples of concerns might be
questions that you don't feel comfortable asking on one of
the mailing lists, request for an honest fashion critique,
etc.

During DLV, if you need some fashion advice, Big Sisters can
help.

If you are uneasy and can't get the nerve to walk out of your
hotel room (this has happened), phone us, we'll have a Big
Sister meet you, assure you, and escort you if necessary.

If you would like to be put in touch with a Big Sister, just
send a note to bigsister@geekbabe.com and we'll get you in
contact with one. You can also conveniently request a Big
Sister on your registration update screen.

Also, if you have attended DLV in the past and would like to
volunteer to spend some time helping others, please say so and
volunteer to be a Big Sister. (Just reply to this mailing or
e-mail bigsister@geekbabe.com and state you would like to
volunteer to be a Big Sister.) The primary qualification is
the desire to help others.

You can also sign up to have a Big Sister, or volunteer to be
a Big Sister on the web as you register.

Big thanks to Nora for coordinating our Big Sister Program!
. . . . .

Large Final Mailing:

During the week prior to DLV, everyone who holds a validated
DLV 2010 registration will receive what we call the Large
Final Mailing.

Yes, this year we will be handing out a hardcopy schedule
and map when you check in, but this will be only a fraction
of what you will need to know to make the most of Diva Las
Vegas.

The Large Final Mailing will include such things as:

. "Bare Minimum" section as a "quick-start" guide.
. Your personalized final confirmation and itinerary.
. Final detailed schedule of activities.
. Behavior, dress and restroom guidelines.
. Check-in instructions.
. Contact phone numbers.
. Big Sister Emergency Hotline number.
. Diva Las Vegas Photo Guidelines.
. Discounts and promotions.
. Link to detailed activity maps.
. Info on informal off-schedule Pre-DLV happenings.

Please watch for this, be expecting it.

Hint: Print this stuff out and read it on the plane.
. . . . .

Ride Sharing:

We will no longer be preparing lists of volunteer drivers
and those who need rides. This process, which worked well in
the early years of DLV, has not worked well as DLV has grown
to the size it has become.

If you will be needing transportation to DLV activities, we
very strongly suggest that you stay in one of our suggested
hotels and use the daily get-togethers to make contact with
those who are driving, or those with whom you can share a
taxi.

We also encourage those who have vehicles and are willing
to give rides to others, and those who need rides, to use
the DLV Discussion Forum to exchange contact information.
