Stay away from the Alexis park at all costs! They oversold their rooms
by 30 per cent for the Halloween Ball. They do this on a regular basis
and do it on purpose. They took my money in June for my reservation and
when I came to check in... no room... they were not even apologetic.
"This how we do it here" was what I was told by a manager.

I reccomend the sahara. It is central to everything.. the new owners
just put a few million into it and it has the old vegas feel.

I am living here now so if I can be of any help please let me know!

I could be wrong, but I thought that Nevada State law requires them to pay
for and place you at suitable (same or better) accomodations elsewhere when
they accept your reservation, overbook, and bump you. Can anyone else
clarify this?

Thanks,

Julie Brenda

I am basically in agreement with Stacie.

We have gone to the Alexis Park restaurant on several occasions. We
had been treated well when we had gone there. Based on our treatment,
their history of working with the GLBT community and the size of the
restaurant. It is one of the few that can accommodate a group our
size, has a bar and is reasonably priced. I approached them and booked
us for the opening night of the DLV.

Last week, by accident, I learned that the restaurant manager that I had
been dealing with left. I spoke to the new manager who was unaware of
our previous agreement. I again requested that we book opening night
for our group. Later that week I finally heard from him and was told
that the chef felt that he could not accommodate our group. It was
felt that we would be too large a group and the numerous choices off
the menu would be too difficult for him to handle. Those of you who
have seen the restaurant know that the size of the facility can easily
accommodate a group our size.

He suggested that instead we could rent a banquet room with a preset
menu. The banquet room runs 500 dollars for the initial rental plus
meal costs of 35 to 40 dollars per person. In addition to the high
cost it would require advance reservations and prior layout of funds.
We would have to notify the hotel in advance of the exact amount of
attendees. Those of you who have attended in the past know that this
would not work and is contrary to our previous practices.

In the past the Alexis park has always worked with the GLBT community
and has a very good reputation for this. However, this experience has
left me with a negative feeling against them. I have written to the
manager and let him know that I am disappointed with this decision and
mentioned that hotel stands to lose considerable business from us.

It is now up to him to get back to me should he decide to change his
mind and accommodate us.

Thank you Stacie for bringing your experiences to our attention.

>I could be wrong, but I thought that Nevada State

Curiosity got me on this one, as it's a recurring
topic on the LV travel boards.

Quickly checking NRS with keywords "overbook" and
"overbooking" got no hits. The closest I can find
quickly is under Deceptive Trade Practices, NRS
598.0915:

+10. Advertises goods or services for sale or lease
+with intent not to supply reasonably expectable public
+demand, unless the advertisement discloses a
+limitation of quantity.

Of course all hotels have a boilerplate disclaimer
(contract of adhesion) in their terms and conditions
which cover their @$$ on that one.

Now, having worked in hotels, I do know that most have
a policy of making things right, and never "walking" a
registered guest. Choice Hotels (Comfort, Clarion, et.
al.), for example, will bend over backwards by
corporate policy if they don't have a room for you,
even placing you with a competitor if necessary.

I know that Stardust used to overflow people to the
California and a couple hotels used to actually
overflow to the DelMar, but I don't know if there's
anything that legally requires them to do so.

If you (or anybody) has a more specific cite, please
speak up, as there are occasional horror stories of
people sleeping in vehicles and such when they arrive
late and find their hotel to be oversold.

If you were "walked" by Alexis Park, you might want to
make a comment in their feedback on the Big List at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/vendors/

Their entry is under "Non-gaming hotels", about 3/4 of
the way down the page.

You've got to be kidding! Hey, we could have told them that the
5 limos were overflows from other hotels!
