Dining at DLV -- variation on a theme ...

Let's continue this and discuss one other dining idea that has
been floating around, kind of an extension of Eating Out Night.

I think almost everybody agrees that Eating Out Night has been
a success. I don't see that going away. However, I would like
to throw this out for discussion.

It seems like we have three distinct sets of desiderata for
dining venues:

1, Upscale and mainstream. This has been mentioned several times
in the recent threads.

2. Affordable. This comes more from some off-line conversation,
but there is the desire to keep DLV, including dining options,
within range of those of more modest means.

3. Safe. Although the proponents of this option are not nearly
as outspoken as those for option 1 above, it's very obvious that
a safe option is necessary at an event such as ours.

Putting this into practice, we select one of our prime evenings,
such as a Friday, select three (or maybe 4) venues, the goal being
to get a group of 20 or so at each. At least one would be quite
upscale and oh-so-mainstream; (at least) one would be chosen
on the basis of affordability, and yes, Las Vegas has countless
less expensive places to eat; and (at least) one would be chosen
considering the comfort level of those who are new to public
exposure.

Hopefully, the crowds would balance at all three. My hunch is,
however, knowing our group, that there would be a tendency to
gravitate to options 2 and 3.

I see this as doing what Eating Out Night does, although on a
larger scale, and actually what most of our multi-track timeslots
do, and that is to increase overall turnout and participation by
appealing to a broader set of desires.

This also counters the cries of "I'LL NEVER GO BACK TO {whatever}"
because {whatever} will not be the only option. :)

And, of course, "none of the above" is also an option. If somebody
wants to do his/her own thing, then he/she will be less conspicuously
absent. :)

I thought I would run this up the flagpole and see how many salute it
and how many flip it the bird.

Comments?

Annie,

I like this idea. It really gives everyone the flexibility to
choose. I personally would like at least one evening during DLV where
I and Dennis could dine like a "queen and her king", so option number
1 appeals to me.

That's my scene.

That's OK, but let's excite people about enjoying the finer things in
life. Save your money for DLV.

True, but let's be careful not to have too much closeting. It's a big
world out there.

I like all three of these options. Let's make all of them happen.

I agree, let's run with it. But let's not be too worried about numbers.

>Hopefully, the crowds would balance at all three. My hunch is,

I would agree that most would go for options 2 and 3. I on the other
hand would strongly lean toward option 1.

>and that is to increase overall turnout and participation by

Absolutely.

>This also counters the cries of "I'LL NEVER GO BACK TO {whatever}"

I fully agree. I would have had a better ending to DLV if I had a
second choice on Saturday. Only thing that saved me was two good non
DLV friends had dinner with me.

>And, of course, "none of the above" is also an option. If somebody

True, but a none of the above can become a listed option. Who says there
only has to be three options.

I do salute this.

Sincerely, Joan, eating her awesome homemade pork chops with the AC going
and a stick of incense burning, here in very hot LV

I agree with having a tri-part approach to dinning out. I for one,
will VOLUNTEER to have an upscale dinning experience on one of the
last nights of DLV.

Girls that are new to being out, need a safe location to gain
confidence. I would enjoy an upscale meal. I whole heartedly
agree that there can be NO wavering of the BDR process for
this.

Diane In Phoenix, where it's a cool 102

Ok, I too will volunteer to put my effort where my mouth is. I'll
volunteer to hostess a dining venue on one of the last nights too.

I'm in fact thinking of doing this at Suede.

Why?

Because I had a very good meal there and I think they can do it
again. I think they are worth giving one more shot.

That makes two. Diane's can be the upscale option, and I guess we
can call Suede the "safe" option. All we need now is somebody to
step forward and volunteer to host(ess) an "affordable" option.

Aiko, you takin' notes? :)

Annie in icky-sticky Omaha, munching on Stouffer's Yuppie Chow,
nuked in the u-wave, for a late lunch. :)

We heard that it was 114 yesterday. I was THERE and I can attest that
IT WAS HOT!

Now that we are back in the High Country, Things have cooled off. We
have a fire or two, but it is cooler than PHX.

NOW 76

HUGS

SUSAN
