DLV 2007 attendee survey results, part 1

Postby External Poster » Thu May 31, 2007 12:05 am

This posting is from: Diva Las Vegas
----------

Here are the results of the objective portion of the DLV 2007
Attendee Survey, which just closed. The only comments included
are "just the facts, ma'am" for clarification and in some cases
indications of trends.

The comments will be posted later today.

I'll make my personal comments in a separate item.

As was expected, this year's event was rated very highly.

86 mostly complete responses were received, covering about 62%
of our attendees. This level of response for such a survey is
considered excellent and is much higher this year than last year,
most likely due to the fact that the survey remained on line much
longer, with several reminders sent out in various media to take
it.

Three more partial or comment-only responses were received.

The higher response rate gives us more of a valid sample from the
statistical point of view, particularly in regard to the smaller
activities.

The 2006 event was rated very highly in the subsequent survey,
and the trend continues this year. This reflects very highly on
the organizers and volunteers who put together a program which
was indeed enjoyed, plus on the attendees, whose company most
definitely will influence the amount of enjoyment.
. . . . .

How many times have you attended Diva Las Vegas?

Once: 20
Twice: 16
3 or more: 48

As has been the pattern, this survey is biased toward returnees.

Average length of stay: 5.5 days.

Although this year's DLV was only officially 6 days, the average
length of stay was about the same (actually slightly higher) as
it was in 2006, which was 5.38 days for a 7 day DLV.
. . . . .

What is your approximate age?

18 - 25: 0
26 - 30: 2

Approximate average age: 54.82
. . . . .

Approximate length of experience with regard to appearing in
public.

About how often do you get any significant public exposure?

These two questions are being thrown out due to issues in answers
which failed the sanity check. These will be reworded and clarified
next year. Last year's answers pass the sanity check.
. . . . .

I consider myself to be primarily a (an) ...

Crossdresser: 32
Transvestite: 4
Pre-op transsexual: 5
Post-op transsexual: 2
No-op transsexual: 5
Transgender(ist): 25
Drag queen: 1
Significant other: 5
Admirer: 0
Friend of the community: 1
Friend of another attendee: 1
I do not identify with any of the above labels: 4

This year shows a sigificant relative increase of the TG identity
over the past few years.

As noted on the survey itself this year, we don't define these
terms, we just ask what the attendees consider themselves to be.
. . . . .

Do you belong to a local transgender support group?

I am currently a member.: 32
I have previously been a member.: 19
I have never been a member.: 33
. . . . .

Have you ever attended any of the following transgender community
events? (Weighted relative responses for each event.)

Southern Comfort Conference 30
Be-All 22
California Dreaming 15
Holiday Enfemme 13
Colorado Goldrush 9
Fall Harvest 9
En Femme Getaway 6
Esprit 6
Fantasia Fair 6
Texas T 5
Dignity Cruise 3
Pinkfest 2
Paradise in the Poconos 1

This showed a significant increase of those attending SCC over
last year's weighted response of 7.

I know that the Pinkfest count is short. The number above reflects
me only, and I do know other Pinkfest attendees who were present
this year who I assume took this survey.

I suspect other event counts may be short as well.
. . . . .

Did you find our web site to accurately depict what you experienced
at DLV?

Yes, definitely.: 61
Yeah, kinda.: 18
No.: 1
I have not viewed the DLV web site.: 6
. . . . .

Did you find our on-line registration procedure and activity
sign-up to be convenient and easy to use?

Yes.: 78
It was a bit confusing.: 5
No.: 1
I did not register or sign up on line.: 2
. . . . .

Did you have any technical or ergonomic difficulties when using
our on-line registration or activity sign-up screens?

Yes.: 6
No.: 77
I did not register or sign up on line.: 2

One of the most important parts of this survey is the enjoyment
rating of activities. As you will see, there are no "dogs" this
year at all. The lowest-rated activity for enjoyment is 3.64 (out
of 5.0), which is the highest "floor" and shortest "span" we've
ever seen since doing this survey.

We consider anything rated over 4.5 to be exceptional, which
shows that the "enjoyed significantly" responses outnumber
all others combined. Of course 5.0 is the Summa Cum Laude
of the ratings.

Those rated 4.0 to 4.5 are considered excellent. This shows
that the activity received more "enjoyed significantly"
responses than all of those neutral or below combined. These
are again solid performers.

Those rated 3.5 to 4.0 are still good. They are still on the
"enjoyed" side of neutral.

We don't have to worry about any activities in the 3.0 to 3.5
range or below 3.0 this year. :) :)

As far as the number of responses for each activity, anything
with 10 responses or more should be considered definitely
valid and anything with 5 or more responses to be mostly
valid. Anything with less than 5 responses should be considered
provisionally valid due to less than a desired sample.

Here's how they stack up:

Art Tour, Wednesday: 5.0 (7 responses) (2 no-shows) **DING**!
Theater Night, Wednesday: 5.0 (7 responses) **DING**!
English High Tea, Thursday: 5.0 (5 responses) (1 no-show) **DING**!
SO's Get-together, Thursday: 5.0 (3 responses) (1 no-show) **DING**!

Love show, Mirage, Thursday: 4.90 (11 responses) (1 no-show)
Night of the Soiled Doves, Tuesday: 4.75 (28 responses) (2 no-shows)
Commitment Ceremony, Thursday: 4.70 (10 responses) (3 no-shows)
Golf, Wednesday: 4.66 (12 responses)
Eating Out Night Marie Callender option, Wednesday: 4.66 (9 responses)
Walk Off Your Lunch, any day: 4.66 (6 responses)
Eating Out Night Prime Rib Loft option, Wednesday: 4.62 (8 responses)
Dinner, Bahama Breeze, Friday: 4.56 (37 responses) (1 no-show)
Limo Tour, Thursday: 4.50 (31 responses)
Charles Bar, Bellagio, Friday: 4.50 (14 responses)

Happy Hour and Dinner, Elvis, Saturday: 4.45 (35 responses) (3 no-shows)
Retro Bash, Elvis, Saturday: 4.44 (38 responses) (3 no-shows)
Lunch With Lori, Harrahs, Thursday: 4.44 (18 responses)
Eating Out Night Trevi option, Wednesday: 4.41 (12 responses)
Lunch With Ginger, Bellagio, Wednesday: 4.33 (9 responses)
Mature Fashion Roundtable, Monday: 4.31 (22 responses) (1 no-show)
Eating Out Night Blue Ox option, Wednesday: 4.27 (11 responses) (4 no-shows)
Eating Out Night Milano's option, Wednesday: 4.27 (11 responses) (1 no-show)
SBS Social, Blue Ox, Saturday: 4.26 (19 responses) (3 no-shows)
Lunch with Ginger, Sahara, Monday, Tuesday, or Friday: 4.25 (31 responses)
Alternative Bar Crawl, Wednesday: 4.14 (14 responses)
Glamour Boutique Open House, Friday: 4.13 (22 responses)
Big Show Pity Party, Thursday: 4.10 (30 responses)
Fremont Street Experience, Wednesday: 4.10 (10 responses)
Lake Mead Boat Cruise, Tuesday: 4.10 (10 responses) (3 no-shows)
Dancing option, Krave, Friday: 4.0 (10 responses)
Local Happy Hour and/or Dinner, Paris, Tuesday: 4.0 (8 responses)
Religious services (unofficial), Metro Comm Church, Sunday: 4.0 (3 responses)
Gaming option, Paris, Friday: 4.0 (1 response)

This year we see the "peak" or the clustering just below 4.5,
compared to last year just above 4.5. I don't see this as a
slippage at all. The number of 5.0 activities and the relative
high ratings of the lowest activities push that average up
right where we are happy to see it.

Studio Lites Open House, Monday: 3.86 (15 responses)
Drinking option, GoodTimes, Friday: 3.84 (13 responses)
Dinner and Welcome Celebration, Suede, Monday: 3.81 (60 responses)
Pre-DLV Get-together, Greek Isles, Sunday: 3.76 (13 responses)
Ballroom Dance Instruction, Wednesday: 3.66 (6 responses) (2 no-shows)
Studio 54, Tuesday: 3.64 (25 responses) (3 no-shows)

Nothing placed lower than 3.64 this year for enjoyment. This says
a lot of the efforts of the activity coordinators, and of those
who attended, since enjoyment scores are affected both by the
activity itself and those present.

Award for Most Improved this year has to go to Charles Bar
(4.50/14 - 3.84/19). Honorable Mention in this category goes
to Bahama Breeze (4.56/37 - 4.36/28).

Consolation Prize goes to Suede (3.81/60 - 4.31/32).
. . . . .

What was your comfort level at each of the following activities?

Eating Out Night Blue Ox option, Wednesday: 5.0 (9 responses)
Commitment Ceremony, Thursday: 5.0 (8 responses)
Eating Out Night Prime Rib Loft option, Wednesday: 5.0 (8 responses)
Ballroom Dance Instruction, Wednesday: 5.0 (7 responses)
Theater Night, Wednesday: 5.0 (7 responses)
English High Tea, Thursday: 5.0 (5 responses)
SO's Get-together, Thursday: 5.0 (4 responses)
Walk Off Your Lunch, any day: 5.0 (3 responses)
Gaming option, Paris, Friday: 5.0 (1 response)

(9 - Count 'em - 9) This is the highest number of perfect
5.0 responses for comfort we've ever seen since this survey
was started!

For the next batch, they are clustered so tightly that I am
putting in breaks at each tenth.

Mature Fashion Roundtable, Monday: 4.95 (21 responses)
Eating Out Night Trevi option, Wednesday: 4.90 (11 responses)

Lake Mead Boat Cruise, Tuesday: 4.88 (9 responses)
Lunch With Lori, Harrahs, Thursday: 4.87 (16 responses)

Glamour Boutique Open House, Friday: 4.85 (20 responses)
Dinner and Welcome Celebration, Suede, Monday: 4.80 (55 responses)
Lunch with Ginger, Sahara Buffet: 4.80 (30 responses)

Dinner, Bahama Breeze, Friday: 4.72 (36 responses)
Love show, Mirage, Thursday: 4.72 (11 responses)
Local Happy Hour and/or Dinner, Paris, Tuesday: 4.71 (7 responses)

Limo Tour, Thursday: 4.62 (29 responses)
Big Show Pity Party, Thursday: 4.61 (31 responses)
Pre-DLV Get-together, Greek Isles, Sunday: 4.50 (14 responses)
Fremont Street Experience, Wednesday: 4.50 (8 responses)
Alternative Bar Crawl, Wednesday: 4.46 (13 responses)

Studio 54, Tuesday: 4.42 (21 responses)
Lunch With Ginger, Bellagio, Wednesday: 4.40 (10 responses)
Golf, Wednesday: 4.38 (13 responses)

Only one scored less than 4.0 on the comfort scale:

Eating Out Night Milano's option, Wednesday: 3.63 (11 responses)

Milano's seems to bounce all over the chart for comfort, although
it consistently does fine for enjoyment. Last year it was 4.5 for
comfort, in 2005 it was 3.8, 4.77 in 2004. I don't know why.

who indicated that they attended, none of them said they skipped
DLV activities they had already signed up for to do them. This
would be our only concern.

DLV 2007 attendee survey results, part 1

Postby External Poster » Thu May 31, 2007 2:02 pm

This posting is from: annie
----------

I'm not going to comment on all of the questions, just those that
for some reason have attracted my attention.

Your comments, on any of the results, however, are most welcome
and encouraged.
. . . . . . . . . .

+What is your approximate age?

If we plot this as a graph, here's what we get ... (hope this
displays on your system)

Nice bell curve with a crack in it! :)

+Approximate average age: 54.82

This has been fairly consistent over the years of this survey. Slight
variations, but remaining in this range.
. . . . .

Public exposure:

+Approximate length of experience with regard to appearing in public.
+About how often do you get any significant public exposure?

We're going to be re-doing these questions. In looking over the
survey responses there were a number of them that were quite
inconsistent with other data. I have to say "validity of data
questionable" for these two, sorry.
. . . . .

Other events:

Southern Comfort Conference 30

Holy Atlanta, Batman! Highest response ever to any "other event"
question in the history of this survey. Since most of the takers
of the survey were returnees, and have answered this in the past,
we can only assume that DLV has had a contingent at SCC the last
couple years.
. . . . .

Hotels, satisfaction:

+St Tropez:

+Definitely satisfied: 4
+Mostly satisfied: 6
+Neutral: 1

New kid on the block scored well. Personal reports I've heard were
very positive.

All other hotel responses were close to what was expected except:

+Imperial Palace:

+Definitely not: 1

Care to comment as to why?
. . .

+Other hotels:

+Definitely satisfied (Stratosphere) (3 responses)

My guess is that Stratosphere is a strong candidate for once
again being one of our suggested hotels.
. . .

Hotels, comfort:

Looks like the comfort was right where it was expected at all of
them, except for:

Imperial Palace:

Very uncomfortable: 1

If that's you, please give us some details.
. . . . .

Activities, enjoyment:

This was one of the highest rated years, as far as enjoyment is
concerned, since we started doing this survey.

+Dinner and Welcome Celebration, Suede: 3.81 (60 responses)

Major slip downward. :(

With 60 responses, representing most of those present, this has
to be a valid number, and the slippage of Suede most definitely
correlates with the verbal remarks I hears and the survey comments.

Even with all of the complaints I heard (and I heard a lot of
them, more about Suede than all other activities combined, it
still scored an "almost 4", which shows to me that people enjoyed
the activity as a whole, and the company, just not the food.
. . .

+Night of the Soiled Doves: 4.75 (28 responses) (2 no-shows)

This is again back on top, and one of the things that does make
DLV unique. As many of you know, this slipped quite a bit the
second year we did it, but it's held its own the past two years.
. . . . .

+Art Tour, Wednesday: 5.0 (7 responses) **DING**!
+Theater Night, Wednesday: 5.0 (7 responses) **DING**!
+English High Tea, Thursday: 5.0 (5 responses) **DING**!

Not attended by all, but lets us know that well-implemented
high-interest and special-interest activities such as this
are very well liked.
. . .

+SO's Get-together, Thursday: 5.0 (3 responses) (1 no-shows)

*DING* We have a winner! Thanks to Haze for doing this!
. . .

+Lunch With Lori, Harrahs, Thursday: 4.44 (18 responses)

I really enjoyed LWL at Harrahs, the food, the atmosphere, and
the company. :)
. . .

+Theater Night, Wednesday: 5.0 (7 responses) **DING**!
+Love show, Mirage, Thursday: 4.90 (11 responses) (1 no-show)
+Eating Out Night Prime Rib Loft option: 4.62 (8 responses)

All new for this year, and all highly rated. We most definitely
need to keep the new activity ideas coming. It's very clear that
a good percentage of them are winners!
. . .

+Charles Bar, Bellagio, Friday: 4.50 (14 responses)

Most improved for this year!

Charles mixes a mean drink at a very ex$pen$ive bar. It seems to
be establishing itself as a consistently well-liked activity
although it's expensive and occurs at 0-dark-hundred. It has in
past years placed all over the scale. I can see why this year's
CB session scored highly. Still some confusion as to what and
where the "Charles Bar" is. I had to talk one in like Air
Traffic Control, and somebody else ended up at another bar so
I just said to stay put and I got the truck and towed her in.
. . .

Honorable Mention for most improved this year has to go to:

+Dinner, Bahama Breeze, Friday: 4.56 (37 responses) (1 no-show)

The food was great, the seating was adequate, the service was
not warp-speed, but it wasn't slow either. The Jimmy Buffett
type guitarist was a very nice touch, not too loud, but very
good in setting the mood.
. . .

This is the first year since we started this survey that
I personally ...

+Mature Fashion Roundtable: 4.31 (22 responses) (1 no-show)
+Studio 54, Tuesday: 3.64 (25 responses) (3 no-shows)

.. had to indicate that there were a couple activities that I
signed up for but did not make it to.
. . .

As for comfort, everything scored 4.0 or above, except ...

+Eating Out Night Milano's option, Wednesday: 3.63 (11 responses)

I don't know why, but this bounces all over the place regarding
comfort. One year it's up in the 4.x range, next year it's back
in the 3.x range. Rinse, repeat. Any comments as to why this one
place is uncomfortable to some? And why the mood swings? :)
. . . . .

+Did you find yourself missing DLV activities because you either
+got into a time crunch or were simply too tired from previous
+activites?

+Seldom or never: 50
+Occasionally: 26
+Frequently: 9

With this affecting about 40% of the respondees to one degree or
another, we need to bring this up in ORG and be sure we don't
schedule things too tightly.
. . . . .

Lack of information:

I'm really at a total loss to explain these:

+I never received any phone numbers.: 4
+I was unaware the Big Sister program existed.: 4
+I was unaware of any roommate matching process.: 5

We talk over and over and over and over about Big Sisters, roommates,
things in the Large Final Mailing, and still we get a number of
these each year. How in the world can people miss these things?

But in particular this year ...

+What maps and directions?: 16

These are not only newbees, who I might expect to miss a few of
the things going on, there are returnees answering this way!

Was it because the map required a mouse click, as opposed to
popping up on the screen with fireworks and fanfare?

Did the entry with the map link actually fail to reach a
significant number of our attendees?

I don't know, you tell me?
. . . . .

+Considering all expenses of all types, what was the total
+amount you spent in order to attend and participate in DLV?

+Approximate average: 2279.10

Although DLV was one day shorter this year than last, and the
average number of days spent was about the same as last year,
this number is a significant increase from last year. ($1801)
. . . . .

+Which best indicates your feelings toward our increased attention
+to and enforcement of behavior, dress, and restroom guidelines?

+I support the current level of enforcement.: 69
+I don't like it, but I understand why it has to be.: 10
+It's a bunch of bullsh*t, knock it off!: 7

+The significance of the responses on this question will be
+discussed in a subsequent posting.
. . . . . . . . . .

Comments on any of this, gang?

This probably just reflects general inflation. The Sahara this
year (IIRC) was $58 on the weeknights versus (again IIRC) $48
last year. Food drink and especially rental car gasoline was
a lot more as well.
