Outrageous Acceptability

Hi all!

Some of you may disagree with this, but I hope not!

Michelle was right-on in observing that some attire can be, "pushing
well past the decency limits!" The genetic girls who are resident at
the establishment we are going to visit for the NSD event DO deserve
our respect!

While we can have fun with the way we look for this event, even here we
should show some restraint! I've been a little embarrassed about the
attire a few have worn. To put it mildly, some of have totally ignored
Annie's 30/130 rule*. We can all show some respectful moderation in
dress for this event and yet still have fun with it! As I wrote
earlier, selfish inconsiderate behavior is simply unacceptable anywhere.

I DO think everyone our group has shown respect toward the residents in
our interaction with them. [Perhaps some more than others :) ] I have
appreciated that and hope it continues. As was observed from the first
year of this event, both groups (them and us) are suspect in the mind of
the greater society and are often unacceptable to many if not most. In
those ways we have lots in common. Let's continue show them the respect
everyone deserves and perhaps they will keep inviting us back!

Let's all have lots of fun at this and other events and not wear out our
welcome here or elsewhere!

Ginger!

*The 30/130 rule interpreted: Those under 30 years of age and under 130
pounds can get by with lots more than those of us who are older and have
to go to the Co-Op to weigh!

Hi,

>Then there's Night of Soiled Dove. Is there a conflict here? If I
>can't wear most outrageous outfit that night, this event isn't for
>me!

If I remember correctly this issue was raised and discussed at length
prior to the first NSD in 2004???

NSD is a special activity that requires participants to jump a few hoops
and be prepared for some extra rules...eg no cameras. You have to
register and get a special pass or pin to go and only a limited number
are allowed (30 or so IIRC)

The issue, if one exists, and is well stated in various documents, is
that whatever you wear must either be suitable to get to and from your
hotel to the start point or you need to have some coverup / coverall.
Again, as in most of the discussion this more about making sure there is
a minimal amount embarrassment and risk to those getting to the group
congregation point than what happens at the activity itself.

Once on our way and at NSD I would suggest there is much lesser concern.

As for outrageous... Well as long as its decent I think it is probably
OK. I am reminded or a recent NSD where only girl had a very short skirt
and with a thong and her balls hanging out either side of it, clearly
visible to all. You can call me a prude but I did think that was pushing
well past the decency limits!

Aiko runs NSD and I'm sure she will be able to provide better guidance on
"outrageous acceptability".

>Watching and thinking about all the chatter online re: DLV is
>suggesting to me that everyone should be on their best behavior.
>Especially no outrageous dress or activity.

I think it is every ones best interests to show a modicum of common
sense and decent behaviour at all times. Most especially provide respect
for the group as a whole when in the congregated group settings.

Hugs
Michelle

You do make a very good point.

Attending NSD has totally changed my image of the practitioners of
that particular profession. These are very classy ladies, and in
no way sleazy or trashy.

>To put it mildly, some of have totally ignored

Actually, I can't claim this as original by any means. The 30/130 I
cite came from a discussion in a fashion newsfroup years ago from a
thread on older (40-50-ish) women wearing some of the "cutesy"
things intended for teenagers and twentyboppers.

>both groups (them and us) are suspect in the mind of the greater

True. We are both sociosexual minorities. Both groups are
unfamiliar to and misunderstood by the general public. We
do have this common bond.

>Let's continue show them the respect everyone deserves and

I think we have developed a mutual respect. I was quite impressed
when I was told that a number of the ladies who were not "on duty"
that night made a special trip in for NSD! :)

Back when I was in high school in the mid-70s, there was a woman who
worked in the principal's office who was in her mid- to- late 40s, but
still dressed in go-go boots, short skirts, and other stuff that she
was way too old to wear. She probably thought she looked sexy and
trendy, but behind her back all the students were laughing at her.

Unfortunately it seems to be the case that for both GGs and TGs,
those who try things like this are totally oblivious to the fact
that the look does not work.

Very seldom will any friends have the guts to tell her that the
look is not working, either. :(

She may have had the strength not to care. I once knew an old cowboy
and biker, who wore silly light green tennis shoes with big tongues
hanging out of them. ( I called them "cowbikers ). When I told him that
they looked ridiculous, he said..."So what?"

We have a dress code for some activities, and suggested dress for
others, because to dress inappropriately during these events would cause
unwanted attention which would keep some people from enjoying the event.

As for getting from your hotel to an anything-goes event, what you wear
through the lobby and elevators shouldn't be a problem. People are
always coming and going to crazy events. The only time I have been
laughed at was when I was wearing a nun's habit and carrying a bottle of
Galiano (sic), and I laughed right along with them. If you want, you
can come up with a funny story about why you're dressed the way you are,
but don't volunteer it unless someone asks.
