The DLV 2005 Entertainer Of The Year ...

Entertainer Of The Year.

This is the result of the DLV 2005 Entertainer Of The Year poll.

This award was given informally in 2001, 2002, and after the fact in
2004.

In 2003 and again this year in 2005 it was decided by popular vote. We
received a total of six nominations this year.

The nominations are as follows, in alphabetical order by last name or
stage name:

Michael Cagle: Vocalist and former EOTY.
Steve Daly: Impersonator-comedienne (Tiny Bubbles).
Steven David: Jazz musician and singer, club owner.
Karin Denise: Singer and performer with Lou Martinez.
Kenny Kerr: Impersonator and stage performer.
Lou Martinez: Bandleader and nightclub entertainment director.

Results were determined by popular vote on the DLV 2005 attendee survey
which concluded May 30.

And the winner is ... the envelope please ... {drum roll ...
tat-a-tat-a-tat-a ...}

Congratulations, Michael! :)

Runner-up goes to Steve "Tiny Bubbles" Daly with honorable mention to
both Lou Martinez and Steven David.

I'm really not trying to grind an axe here or toss blame elsewhere for
an evening that went bad. Yes I had the LFM and didn't call anybody
which was my fault.

Mary Beth and myself went down to Fremont which was ok (I used to live
there and had been there many times before). The evening itself was
fine. I was simply questioning the process/procedure itself until I saw
Annie's post about the phone #'s.

I'm not in any "pity corner" placing blame for a wrecked evening. I had
fun. Karaoke is on my wish list with getting bubonic plague anyway...

What's with all of the sour grapes so early in the process folks?
Schedules got changed, we trusted a TG friendly business and they have
shown their true colors. Flakes are everywhere!

Every attempt was made to update the schedule as it changed. Everyone
should have seen it was a fluid schgedule at some point. A few 2005
attendees have a bag of axes that they seem to be dragging around still
trying to grind them to a nub, so what if the person you voted for
Entertainer of the Year didn't win or you missed an event due to poor
planning or you personally do not take responsibility for your own
failures, that is life! Get The Hell over it and learn from it.

Life goes on! Lets work on making 2006 a much smoother operation as
Annie has pointed out. This is enjoyment, vacation, sisterhood, and not
a pissing contest! And next year, if Tony has a camera, don't take it
away from him, he takes the best photos! I for one appreciate what
Captain Tony does with that ever present smile and good nature (what
does he use to stay that way.....giggle?), must be what's in the water
in Tucson!

The fact that DLV is over burdened with to many new faces each and every
year is our own fault for making it so wonderfully unique and
enjoyable. It boils down to who takes responsibility for their own
vacation and actions. It's not anyone else's vacation but your own.
Others volunteer to help with your vacation, not baby sit you. Be
informed and take control over your own life. You decide to use the
Volunteer based services offered to you such as Big Sister. I find it
very hard to understand how a person can register and then loose track
of what, when, where, and how! If in doubt about an event, ask another
attendee since we see others all through the event.

I know of one 5 year attendee that was a big sister for someone new this
year that just was plain old rude and ignored the Big Sister, even
though the Big Sister attempted to help her. That Big Sister has
volunteered several times in the past and will not ever again since her
vacation was spent trying to help a rude person. That Big Sister is not
complaining and never will. She has a grip on reality and has just
moved on as we all should.

Each person that attends DLV is a unique individual. Some come from over
5000 miles away and others close their door to their house and drive 5
blocks to attend. Others are new to being out in the sunlight and daily
public exposure. Then there are the old timers(DLV Old... not age wise)
that just properly dress for the public event and go and embrace the
day. A few think a Spandex tennis skort, a tube top, and 6" platform
Cork wedge heels look good for lunch at Paris because that's how they
dress at home. But gals, GGs only dress that way to turn tricks and
seldom if they are 250lbs!!!! That is one thing we REALLY need to work
on and stay focused on. The process of pointing out the wardrobe
disfunction at an event and making that person go back and change seems
to be the only way to make it work. Shame them before they shame the
rest of us worked in 2004.

Lastly (I know, long winded bitch that I am), Annie, you are DLV. Just
like Wine is from Grapes and Old Mustangs are what Ford was once, you
are and will always be DLV. Its time for others (I know that encludes
me too) to find out what you have to put up with each year and yet
still manage to smile. We need to stay focused on the fact that this
event is a volunteer driven event and that this ORG is where the
direction of the event is driven. Lets keep little snips and personal
gripes as a lesson learned and not a complaint that just keeps dragging
along. Those gals that are volunteers, you are Goddesses.

With all of that said, I know I just volunteered for something but damn
if I know what it is. Lets take the abundant harvest of sour grapes and
make some wine! I think we all need it, make mine Merlot!

I didn't either, and no one that I talked to was impressed with the
show, but, I have no doubt that it was a fair vote.

Speaking very freely (do I never not?) ...

This year, unfortunately, there were some disappointments regarding
DLV. :(

There was also a tension in the air regarding one rather divisive issue.
(some, maybe many) People took sides, friendships were strained or
broken over it, and nobody involved, or even observing, was happy about
it.

We also had a number of cases where the level of service we expected
from our providers was substandard, and not what we were used to.

Our volunteer force was strained and stressed when we had to deal with
a chain-reaction necessity to reschedule much of the ending part of
the event.

There was also some bitching about dress and deportment, but this was
not about increased attention to it, but bitching about us failing to
take action when those who should know better quite blatantly ignored
the dress/behavior guidelines.

The overall climate was negatively impacted by all of these factors.

With all of the comments about things that were wrong, however, we must
remember that there were a lot of things right with DLV 2005. Many of
the people had a good time, and most of our activities did go off as
planned and were rated highly.

People have high expectations of DLV. We've gotten the reputation of
being a first-tier T* event over the years and if things slip, there
will be disappointments.

Yes, and I see that many of these points of disappointment do have a
fairly obvious fix.

If it were my call, people such as rude LS's and certain self-centered
dorks would be placed on a "no invite" list for next year's event.

Again, if it were my call, those who blatantly ignored the dress
guidelines (I am thinking of 3 individuals in particular, we can go over
the details in ORG) would be placed on a "no invite" list for the next
year's event. They are in essence saying "f*ck you" to the guidelines
and IMAO do not possess the proper attitude for DLV!

Plans are being made for follow-up regarding those individuals, and you
can be assured that action will be taken should anybody pull those
stunts at DLV 2006!

Well, uh, this is the first time I can remember being compared to an
old Mustang ...

But seriously, I do appreciate the nice words and the support. I'm glad
that people appreciate what I do and have done. Hopefully this will
continue for those who will end up doing what I'm doing. (And remember,
I'm not dead yet!)

Just repeat those words over on ORG. If everybody will just volunteer
to coordinate or assist with one nontrivial activity and follow through
and make sure things are covered, we will have a very good slate of
activities for DLV 2006.

The Mustang is a true American Car Classic, sought after by the teaming
throngs of the World. I just meant you are a modern classic that has
style and is appreciated by the Throngs..... Now if I had said Yugo...
(ducking , leaving stage left......)

Forget the car thing, lets just stick to the wine..... first bottle is
on me!

Actually, I used to have one. I had an original '66. Got it in the
early 70's and eventually sold it for a song and a dance (still
kicking myself) when it got to be iffy with the then-draconian
safety inspection.

I even took it up to Provincetown a couple times, of course this was
long before the current FanFair era, not to show my real age. :)
