Diva Las Vegas 2021 is GO:

Welcome to those who recently registered or joined our mailing list. If
you have any questions or concerns, please let us know, just reply to
this mailing.
. . . . .

This mailing has gotten quite long, but there's a lot of important
information about the upcoming event included.
. . . . .

We are officially "GO" for Diva Las Vegas 2021!

Although the Covid numbers have improved very significantly, the CDC is
still rating Clark County (which includes the Las Vegas area) in the
"High" risk category.

This means that unless the numbers take a prominent nosedive in the next
two weeks (possible, but unlikely), the indoor mask mandate will be in
place during DLV and we should plan on that being the case.

The case numbers have sharply declined since the beginning of September,
so the real-world risk of infection is far less than it was during the
peak in late August.
. . . . .

We strongly recommend bringing your original Covid-19 vaccination record
with you as you attend DLV 2021. Several of our activities (see list
below) will require that all participants be vaccinated. In addition,
some venues open to the public may require proof of vaccination for
entry or for service.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Please reconfirm your attendance:

As we finalize plans for DLV 2021, we do have a need to know who will
and will not be joining us. We realize that many of you have been going
back and forth in your minds as to whether you will or will not be
attending DLV 2021.

We will be doing a reconfirmation survey this coming week, and we ask
all who plan to attend to watch for this in email and indicate that you
will or will not be with us later in October.

The reconfirmation survey is one question only, and will take less than
one minute to complete.

Please watch for this in your inbox toward the beginning of next week.

Your cooperation is appreciated.

Big Sister update:

Delaney (Big Sister Coordinator) writes:

We still need additional Big Sisters please.

We had a slowdown due to event uncertainty, however as all is now
looking positive, please consider volunteering.

You may volunteer to be a Big Sister via your Attendee Information
Portal (the link you received when you registered). Just go to:
(Update Registration -> Big/Little Sister -> Volunteer as Big Sister)

You may also volunteer to be a Big Sister by sending a brief email to
bigsister@divalas.vegas and stating that you would like to volunteer.

System security warnings:

Some users and attendees have reported getting a warning or an error
message when viewing our web site, answering surveys, signing up for
activities, etc.

This is mostly out of our control, and has to do with some browsers
and devices, mostly older Apple and Blackberry devices, not properly
recognizing what is known as a "Root certificate in the chain of
authority" which verifies and protects our web site.

A complete technical explanation of what's happening is on line here:

http://divalas.vegas/cert2021.html

Until things get sorted out regarding this issue, if it occurs to you,
the best work-around is to simply replace the "https://" in the affected
URL with "http://" (without the "s"), which forces your device to back
down to the baseline http method.

For example, if you want to view the "About Us" page on our web site,
which is on line here:

https://divalas.vegas/about/

You would simply edit the URL in your browser's location bar to read:

http://divalas.vegas/about/

We will be posting updates to this as things develop.

If you have any further questions or concerns about these warning
messages, please contact tech@divalas.vegas via email.
. . . . .

Update: As of Saturday afternoon it was reported (second-party, hearsay)
that one of the affected manufacturers is refusing to issue a fix for
this, stating that the affected devices are out of support. Therefore,
we will, at least temporarily, be moving to a different certificate
agency within the next few days.

Closing banquet payment reminder:

Those who are signed up for the combined DLV/Wildside closing banquet
and have not paid will need to do so as soon as possible.

You may do so by sending $55 per person either by PayPal at address
@CamiRichardson53 or venmo address @Cami-Richardson

Payment status will be checked at the door and those unpaid will be
turned away, sorry. Payment will not be accepted at the door nor during
DLV, it must be made in advance using one of the two methods above.

Also please note that proof of vaccination will be required for
admission to the banquet. Proof of a recent negative Covid-19 test (72
hours prior to 7:00pm Saturday, October 30) will be accepted in lieu of
vaccination.

Opening gathering updates:

Delaney writes:

As mentioned in the previous mailing , we have secured Bahama Breeze
for the Opener. There were several complications in gaining this
reservation, largely due to COVID.

Earlier in this process, when the reservation was in doubt, it became
painfully apparent that finding a backup location was going to be
extremely difficult.

So please, come on Tuesday, have dinner, buy your extra drink there, and
tip generously. They have been very good to us; we should reciprocate.

WeeBeWednesday (costume-cosplay) update:

Marisa writes:

Hopefully helpful info about weeBWednesday at Play1 video game bar.

They require your ID for entry and a $5 entry fee that you need to pay
with a card (no cash at the door) but you get in free if you're in a
good anime costume.

The entry fee is for the free huge selection of games to play.

They have a huge selection of beers, cider, sake, etc.

They don't have a printed menu because the selection is changing all the
time,so you need to look at their menu online. They have some simple
food items like $9-12" pizza, hot dogs, etc and free popcorn with a drink
order.

We won't be in a reserved organized group of any kind because this place
very socially mingly focused. So be ready to compliment and be
complimented about cosplay costumes and play the free games all night.
Some pinball machines require a coin or token though.

You can not get here too late or too early.I'll be there before 8pm as
Mario, the one wearing a black pokadot red bra.

Fiscal report and updates:

Cami writes:

We wanted to bring you up-to-date on the status of the donations we
received which has reached over $2,100 and what we intend to do with it
for this years Diva event.

Cami, Sarah and Zoe, as a committee, have discussed options and have
come up with the following.:

1. We intend to pay for the entertainment for Bahama Breeze dinner on
Tuesday, which should be in the neighborhood of $400.

2. We are going to pay for prizes for the golf tournament at about $150,
Best costume at the banquet for $50, which Viva is also donating $50
towards and about $100 for prizes for the best time at the race car
event.

3. We have also decided to thank individual event organizers by paying
up to $50 towards the hosts cost to host the event for themselves. For
example, if someone hosts a dinner we will pay for their costs up to
$50. We believe that in the future this will drive more people to
volunteer to host events.

4. We also are going to pay for up to three individuals dinner at the
Bahama Breeze through a drawing whereby individuals picked would have
their dinner paid for. We have discussed our initial thoughts from last
year which was to make sure that those that are hosting an event and
fronting personal funds, are covered if things don't go the way they
expected.

We have reviewed the hotel situation and Cami is more than comfortable
saying that we have covered our exposure at the hotel.

Cami has said that we have now reached over a hundred people for the
banquet paid, which was our minimum, so we have no exposure there.

We believe that we will still have a good reserve left going into next
year.

We believe this is a fair distribution of some of the funds.

If you have not made a donation for this year please feel free to go
into your registration sign up page and look for the donation tab and
make a donation.
