DLV in February

Postby bobbiemlv » Mon Feb 09, 2015 12:40 pm

The groundhog predicted 6 more weeks of winter, but here in Vegas it's in the mid to upper 70's, this week.
Perfect weather for a week of DLV. Any thoughts? This should solicit some conversation.

If you look at the dates of the dates of the 18 previous DLV events (on line here: http://www.geekbabe.com/cgi-bin/afaq.cg ... faq&i=1.11) you will see that the start date has been creeping earlier and earlier into the calendar year for some time.

Most of the time the volunteers of voting status clearly prefer the earliest of the timespans presented for consideration. (One recent exception was 2012.) Proponents of the earliest timespan often cite weather as the primary factor influencing their vote. If the trend continues we could indeed see the start date for DLV creep into February.

Accuweather's long, long range forecast now does reach to the first part
of the DLV week, so we can now start to monitor the likely weather - if
the forecast is good, we should believe it, if not, well, they are as
wrong as often as right :-)

Same here in Tucson...Besides right now we have the fabulous annual Gem
and Mineral Show going on. Lots of people selling and buying rocks,
rocks and more rocks. There are some beautiful gems and minerals, and
fossils (no, not the senior citizens who come to Tucson to escape the
cold) to be purchased. And lots of other stuff. I mean the whole town
shuts down for two weeks for this annual show. Then, it's followed up by
the annual Fiesta de ls Vaqueros which means lot and lots of cowboys,
and cowgirls. Usually we are blessed with great weather in the 70's.
Yesterday we got up as high as 84 degrees. Record breaking!

Vera

I plan to visit Vegas next week, just after Valentine's and on President's day.
Getting hotel reservations for this week was difficult. Last year I waited for over one hour to get my nails done in the salon. Many places have holiday specials that are higher priced than usual.
Sorry, it sounds good but not a cost effective for a vacation.
My $0.02 worth,

The one that I find kinda scary is this one:

OBTW, it's currently sunny and 45 here in North Omaha. I actually did not use the heater in the car when I went to lunch a while ago.

Of course they are forecasting 1-3 inches of snow tomorrow morning! :(
