one more thing before your pack for DLV....

Postby kandi.dolfen » Sat Jan 24, 2015 9:49 pm

My OCD gets started when I prep for DLV. One more thing I packed this year was my flu shot. I already caught the flu bug at the NYE party I attended this New Year. Still, my Dr. suggested I get the shot since I could get it again or one of the many other flu strains. My insurance covered the cost, so I rolled up my sleeve.

Last year we had a bad bug floating around and I caught it during DLV week. It knocked me down for almost 4 weeks after I returned home. It's great to meet so many DLVrs each year. They come from some many different places and its good to hear their stories. With this comes the potential for exposure to different strains than where you come from. Rolling up your sleeve for a flu shot is a reasonable precaution, IMHO.

Good thought. I did get sick towards the end pf DLV last year.
Although it wasn't the flu, this year it could be.

I'm pretty sure those of us who gotsick last year and felt bad for several weeks actually had contracted the Noro virus. There were several cells of it identified in Vegas while we were there. It kicked my butt for nearly a month.

I'm very sure that was what I had, starting Friday of DLV week. I had two of the common symptoms of it. Coincidentally I had a pre-scheduled doctor appointment (totally unrelated) the week following DLV and I mentioned it. He said it was probably a virus and that if it did not clear up by the weekend to make an appointment. It cleared up.

I remember two specific sets of symptoms reported by DLVers last year. One set was very typical of the common cold. The other was some kind of gastroenteritis (Norovirus?) which was reported more toward the end of the event.

I think the best thing we can do this year is to raise awareness that communicable diseases can spoil an otherwise very nice vacation, and urge everyone to practice good hygiene and sanitary habits.
