Activity Ideas

Postby Bev » Mon Nov 10, 2014 2:21 pm

Let’s start talking about what we want to do during DLV2015. For those who know me you know I am a planner and like to have firm ideas on how to spend my time when I travel. And DLV is no different. I like to have firm ‘ideas’ on what I am going to do every day. Now that doesn’t mean I will do all of those things or that I won’t allow spontaneity to interject. I just like to have a pretty good idea of what’s going on each day.
There are a few days with open slots or ‘holes’ that I would like to fill.
Monday and Tuesday are pretty firm for me with the opening evening at Bahama Breeze and golf and dinner on Tuesday. I might want to add an activity to Tuesday night following my dinner hosting at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse (RCS). A show or comedy club starting after 9:00 would be a nice end to the day I think (Chris Angel, Luxor, 9:30, $59-$169 or Harrah’s Improv, 10:00, $30-$45). Being I’m at Harrah’s for dinner, the Improv would be an easy activity to incorporate without feeling rushed. It’s also the cheaper of the two which would be nice after the rather expensive meals at RCS.
Wednesday and Thursday are still pretty open for me so I would like a daytime activity to go in there. Last year I led a hike at Red Rock Canyon that was great fun and a wonderful time spent outdoors. I don’t think I want to repeat that but I’m still thinking about it. Another thought I had was a trip to Spring Preserve. I don’t know much about it and would like to hear from anyone (locals?) who has been there. How is the hiking? What activities do you recommend there? Could be a fun way to spend the a few hours either morning.
In past trips I have toured Valley of Fire and had a great time hiking there. Only problem is that it is a longer drive which means devoting more of the day to it. Three to four hours minimum would be needed I feel and that might be too much for a daytime activity.
There are shows available on Wednesday evening for anyone not going to Kings of Hustler (KOH) activity. Been there done that (but no t-shirt to show for it) so I doubt I will repeat that activity. I have three possible alternatives for Wednesday night: Terry Favor comedy at the Mirage (7:00, $60-130),” Jersey Boys” at Paris Theatre (7:00, $100-$200), “40 Is Not The New 20” at Riviera (10:00, $40). Ticket prices may be lower by obtaining discount coupons. “Jersey Boys” followed by dinner at Paris could be a fun night out, but expensive. Dinner followed by “40…” or Terry Favor followed by dinner could be a cheaper and still fun night as well. We could also do the dinner at PF Changs and then Jersey Boys (might be a bit of a rush) or the less rushed show at Riviera.
Thursday night is also uncommitted at this time for me. So it could be the night for a show and dinner also. There are several possibilities for shows or performances ranging in price from $50-$160. There is a dinner theatre murder mystery (“I Don’t Have A Clue” at Bally’s, 6:00, $90-$118), Comedy (Vinnie Favorito, Flamingo, 8:00, $60; or Anthony Cools, Paris, 9:00, $54-$76), or magic (Chris Angel, Luxor, 9:30, $59-$169). What I decide to do will depend on who is interested in doing it with me as well as what time the High Roller Observation Wheel activity ends up being slated. Dinner at Trevi sounds good to me also.
I would appreciate any and all feedback and suggestions you have for fun things to do during our week.

Hi Bev:

Last year I went to see Elton John. It was the best show I have ever
been to. A little pricey, but well worth it. I believe he is going to
be in town again this year. I think I will be going again.

Hello Bev, Dahlin', I'd like to host a dinner at this new restaurant I
heard about as another dining experience/activity. . it's a Brazilian
Steak House. It might be a little pricey but they also have a bar menu
that is not too bad. It might be exciting to have all those carvers at
your table slicing away at their Brazilian style steaks. I'm getting
Dennis a holiday gift card from there so he'll be all set to order his
dinner. You might want to ask for a gift card from Santa or treat
yourself to one this Christmas. Ho Ho HO!!! Let me know so I can contact
them and see about reservations.I will forward you some information/menu
on this place. See ya soon,

Vera

Since you did not mention Sunday, I will.

What I think would work well for Sunday is to center it around downtown, similar to what we did last year but with a stronger ending.

Last year we had a late-evening common gathering planned, but an unexpected cover charge at the planned venue put the kibosh on it.

Fremont Street Experience, in and of itself, can be a featured "anchor" activity for the evening, but it would be nice to have a specific designated After-FSE gathering spot somewhere downtown. I would sure like to hear suggestions on this. What comes to mind would be a designated casino bar, such as the Fremont, or one of the East Fremont bars where we know there will be no cover (or loud entertainment) that evening. Even the bar at Denny's could work well, although it does not sound that "exciting" I admit.

Suggestions?

Hey, calories don't count in Las Vegas! :)

Seriously, I haven't been to that particular one, but to a similar place. It was meat, meat, meat, meat, and more meat! Ginger would love it -- NOT! :) :)

Even liquid meat at the bar. :) Seriously, the house specialty drink was some kind of lemon-lime concoction which was recklessly intoxicating. (But not as bad as Galiano. {sic}) :)

Rep to Bev.
I agree with you. I will not be doing Kings of Hustler again either. It was ok but not my thing so anything as a second track on Wed' night will work for me..
A dinner do perhaps and the Terry Fator a show after din dins.
Definitely a dinner date with the girls first though >> When in Vegas eat like the Tourists do ! etc'.
---------------------------------
Rep to Annie.
**The Fremont** Casino bar is nice. Bev and I spent a bit of time there in 2012 chatting with a western styled lady and her daughter as they seemed to have an interest in us or even like us maybe. No accounting for taste I suppose! *lol*.
The bar Itself is a tad small for any size of a gathering but there is plenty of standing room and probably great for up to 6 girls. There are no tables though which limits it a bit.

**The D* long bar is very crowded and straight in length which kind of limits talking without having to lean over and yell down the bar. Too crowded, Noisy and tough for socializing.
The D also used to have bar service up a flight of escalators then turn left and there is a rather nice balcony with high tables and bar stools where the FSE could be viewed complete with drink in hand. I do not know if that still exists as they re-shuffled a bit since I was there last but it was away from the noise and a really decent view of Fremont St.

The Plaza might be an option. but again they have reshuffled the place since I spent any time in there. Reshuffling seems to be popular in Vegas...**Wink**.
Does anyone know what replaced the restaurant which overlooked Fremont St at that Plaza? ...2nd Floor

The Nugget has a bar in the middle of the casino next to the Cashiers cage and it might work it is not really all that noisy there and socializing could be done.

I defer to our locals for any more possibilities... Which could include the Bar at the Las Vegas Boulevard end of the street with the Veranda doors which open onto the street. I have not been in there but it looks kinda like a younger set joint.

Denny's? I did not know Dennys served booze. = ( "Er Waitress, I'll have a small tequila and a *T Girl Slam* with all the trimmings" ). Hmmmmm?
