BREAKING: Clark County to start issuing gay marriage licenses Wednesday

Clark County Clerk Diana Alba has decided that the Marriage Bureau will begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples at 2 p.m. Wednesday, according to county spokesman Erik Pappa.

Please don't shoot the messenger here, but they just announced on the radio here (Chicago) that the 'wingers have successfully petitioned the Supremes for some kind of "emergency" stay,, which was unfortunately granted.

I don't really see how stopping someone's marriage can be an emergency, but again, I'm not a 'winger.

Actually, this is standard operating procedure. It's just a delay until the
Supremes decide whether or not they want to hear the case.

If they decide not to hear the case, the stay is lifted and the lower
court ruling goes into effect.

I'm not a lawyer, I just play one on television.

I really wish they would have taken the case(s), as now the divisiveness
will continue for at least another year, and more likely several years.

By not taking the case they have let the lower court cases stand. Which
I believe in all these cases is a good result.

I think there is some confusion over two separate but related items here. Even the talking head on CNN seemed to be confused about these this morning.

First is the Supremes declining to review several challenges to lower court decisions on Monday. This affected several states but not Nevada.

Second is the stay imposed on Wednesday which affects Nevada and Idaho, holding the ussuance of licenses in these states.

But wait! There's more! Apparently the group requesting the emergency stay on item 2 is withdrawing their request! Film at 11.
