Did you guys, the group, ever go by another name than Diva? reason I ask is last night at our group i met a girl, older lady, actually, who says she went to something in Vegas that sounds alot like diva but she swears it wasn't Diva.

She doesn't remember much about it but says it was before 9-11 and had 20-30 girls or so. She is gettig very old, walks with a walker and seems confused. Said something about you had to know a code word or something to get in. Does this sound like you??

No, the term Diva Las Vegas was used prior to the first gathering, although in the very beginning it was more of a slogan than the name of the event. We've never been known as anything else.

I know there were other groups doing more or less what we were back in the early days. One of our early volunteers made reference to an excursion to Las Vegas by the Pink Kitties, but that was a group name and not an event name.

Those numbers could have been our 1998 or 1999 events, but the name Diva Las Vegas was very entrenched for the name of our event by that time.

I do know of two attempts to start a TG convention in Las Vegas and it could have been one of them. The event "Candy Girl" apparently had a one-year run shortly before we started. "TG Expressions" had a 2-3 year run, which overlapped with our earlier years IIRC. One of our former volunteers was involved in some way with this one.

No. Sounds very cloak-and dagger. :) Definitely not us.

I know there were other TG groups doing DLV-type events in LV back in those days. We were just the one that had the most exposure on the net back then.

Perhaps she was thinking of the Wildside girls annual get together?

Probably not. OP said prior to 9/11. Wildside broke away from DLV in 2006-2007 or so, IIRC.

Hi Ladies,

We need to remember that as late as the 80's and 90's our lives were
pretty much considered totally aberrant by the general population, we
were freaks, etc. in the minds of the masses.

I know of several groups in the California area where speakeasy
(passwords, knocks, etc.) type conditions existed to gain admittance
t places where we could be ourselves.

We really owe a debt of gratitude to things like DLV and its creators,
and many other social occurrences for helping to bring our existence
more into the main stream. I know that when I worked for the Defense
Industry, I would have been barred from any security clearances because
of my "secret" much as many gay people suffered. Now that is not the
case, so much, there are still our detractors and I personally will keep
working to make them realize that we too are nothing but fellow human
beings that need to be respected and treated just like anybody else.

Just my humble opinion.

Love you all and thanks for making my transition so much easier.

Gina
