With close to 150 people every year, I'm just saying we need to be more flexible. Just because it lasts for 7 days, doesn't mean you Have to be here for 7. I agree with Delaney and as long as the opening and closing are within 6 days, the 7th shouldn't make any difference to those who can't stay for it. The biggest problem, I have always seen, as people get older is the inability to be flexible. Like I said before, with all the pre and post DLV activities, it lasts more than 6 days anyway! :D

What exactly is the issue here. Girls can come and go as they like. I guess I don't get it.

Yes, people can come and go as they like. The issue is how many days do our volunteers commit to organizing, as in filling them with activities, as part of our announced program.

There also seems to be an underlying issue of the days of the week on which the two usual major gatherings occur, and there appears to be a preference for Monday and Friday for those.

Dates for DLV 2015 ...

Delaney.

I totally agree and this could be a real nice option for me too, as I
always feel I have not had enough after a week in Vegas with the gang
and when leaving on a plane it often brings thoughts of.." I wish I
had..... or Woulda, Shoulda, Coulda done that" .

If we leave it light and not a set in stone day on the scheduled then I
think this would work much better than the extending the week plan.

Katie.

Dates for DLV 2015 ...

Bobbie, I'm going to be honest in saying that I didn't like the
implication that I am old and/or inflexible simply for expressing my
opinion. For what it's worth, I'm neither but I'll be sure to use some
extra night moisturizer this evening, just to make sure ;)

My POV comes from the standpoint of someone who has experienced DLV as a
Monday-Saturday event as well as Monday-Friday. The welcome & ending
celebrations are anchor events and I'm sure most would prefer to attend
both. I'm sure that is my preference. My third DLV finally was able to
include the welcome celebration and this was because the schedule was
compressed to Monday through Friday. This made it possible on several
variables for me to be able to attend for that many nights.
Monday=Welcome, Saturday=Ending, probably not going to happen.

Like I said, I would fully endorse a rather full schedule to include
Sunday before the "welcome" and the Saturday after the "ending" if there
are volunteers to make it happen. I'm sure there are. My point has
simply been that the "bookends" of these two activities in a five day
span is conducive to many of us who cannot devote more time to DLV for
whatever reason. Although I'm expressing my personal preference, I
believe DLV discovered something in going with this format, that
attendance at one or both ends of the schedule was in fact maximized by
going with the M-F anchors. Annie can correct me if I'm wrong.

Sara

I like the idea of adding the pre-DLV Saturday event on the schedule.Late night dancing could be added very easily and lunch or maybe some afternoon activity.

Where did I say that Sara P. is old or inflexible? I did say older and unless if I am mistaken, we ALL get older.
And a lot of people get stuck in their OLD ways and aren't as FLEXIBLE, as when they were younger. I am 68 and I am still changing and evolving, as many of my friends would tell you, but not everyone is me.
I don't even know why this discussion started. Welcome has been on Monday, closing has been on Friday and we have ALWAYS done things on Saturday and Sunday, both before and after. So what's the problem.
