Some comments on the 2014 survey results ...

This posting is from: annie
----------

Here are some of my thoughts on the recent DLV 2014 survey results. I am
not commenting on all items, just those I find particularly interesting
and relevant.

Thanks to all who participated in the survey. Yes, it's long and takes a
number of minutes to complete. We appreciate the effort and the
feedback.

The annual survey gives us considerable information and feedback along
two lines:

1. The yearly scores, which reflect on the current year's event
specifically.

2. The historical trends from year to year.

A quick read of the numbers will show that this year's event was, in
spite of all of the illness reports, one of the most enjoyed events in
all of our history.

It was also one of the smoothest running from an organizational
perspective.

No significant BDR (Behavior-Dress-Restroom) issues were reported at
all. Thanks to all for making this so.

My congratulations goes out to all volunteer Coordinators and thanks
goes out to all who attended and participated.
. . . . . . . . . .

For this year, I'm not commenting on these strictly in order. I'm
putting some of the items that I think are more important, and those
which I think are more significant up front.
. . . . .

Enjoyment scores:

I personally consider this section to be one of the most important, if
not **THE** most important items on the survey in terms of gauging how
well our people enjoyed our event.

+What was your level of enjoyment at each of the following activities?

We made one slight change in this section this year. Multiple sessions
of the same activity at the same exact venue were rolled together in one
line item. This hopefully helped reduce the fatigue of answering so many
items. It also gave us larger sample sizes which helps us get more
consistent and accurate results. Likewise, happy hours were bundled with
dinner unless the HH and dinner used different venues.

A 5.0 average on the enjoyment scale is as high as it can be. This is
actually quite difficult to get since any one response less than
"enjoyed significantly" will remove an activity from this highest of
high enjoyment rating.

We had six activities score a perfect 5.0 on the enjoyment scale this
year. This is just one fewer than the seven we had in this category
last year.

Of special note is the Red Rock hiking:

+Red Rock Hiking and Photo Outing, Thursday: 5.0 (15 responses) **DING!**

It is extremely unusual for an activity with 15 responses to get the
perfect 5.0 enjoyment rating! This activity was clearly exceptional!

I've heard very good things about all of the others scoring a perfect
5.0. I consider this to be the A+ on the enjoyment grading scale!

+Audrey High Fashion Lounge Tour, Wednesday: 5.0 (9 responses) **DING!**
+High Tea, Four Seasons - Verandah, Friday: 5.0 (7 responses) **DING!**
+Bar Rescue Tour, Sunday: 5.0 (5 responses) **DING!**
+Late Night Clubbing, Club Surrender, Friday: 5.0 (5 responses) **DING!**
+Pamplemousse dining option, Tuesday: 5.0 (2 responses) **DING!**
. . . . .

Right under those which place a perfect 5.0 on the enjoyment scale are
those which place in the 4.5-4.99 range. To place in this range, the
activity needs to get more "enjoyed significantly" ratings than all
others combined.

These are the clear winners in our lineup of activities! You will notice
that many special-interest activities, as well as many dining activities
fall in this range.

I consider this to be a good solid A on the grading scale. :)

Even with the roll-up of multiple sessions, we had 34 activities placed
in this range this year, an all-time record! This compares to 26 in the
4.5-4.99 enjoyment range last year.

+Ruths Chris HH and Dinner, Harrahs, Tuesday: 4.92 (14 responses)
+DLV Invitational Golf, Wildhorse Golf Club, Tuesday: 4.90 (21 responses)
+Ricardos HH and dinner, Ricardo's, Thursday: 4.90 (10 responses)

+Bare Escentuals Makeover Sessions: 4.87 (16 responses)
+Denny's Happy Hour and Dinner, Sunday: 4.83 (6 responses)
+Lunch With Ginger, Paris Buffet, Thursday: 4.83 (6 responses)
+Lunch With Ginger, Gold Coast Buffet, Friday: 4.83 (6 responses)
+Dancing at Paris, any and all sessions: 4.82 (28 responses)
+Wig Seminar, Spotlight Lounge, Monday: 4.82 (17 responses)
+Lunch With Ginger, Stratosphere Buffet, Tuesday: 4.80 (5 responses)
+Macy's Makeovers, Friday, all sessions: 4.80 (5 responses) (2 no-shows)

+Hofbrau Happy Hour and Dinner, Tuesday: 4.77 (9 responses)
+Art Tour, Bellagio Gallery, Tuesday: 4.75 (4 responses)
+Frank Marino Show, Tuesday: 4.73 (19 responses) (4 no-shows)
+Night of the Soiled Doves, Wednesday: 4.73 (15 responses) (3 no-shows)
+Pistol and Rifle Shooting, Wednesday: 4.72 (11 responses) (2 no-shows)
+Just You Open House, Wednesday, April 2: 4.7 (13 responses)

+HH, Dinner, Welcome Celebration, Monday: 4.66 (59 responses)
+Karaoke with Shiela, Phoenix Lounge, Sunday: 4.66 (15 responses)
+Scavenger Hunt, Sunday: 4.66 (6 responses)
+New attendee Welcome and Orientation, Monday: 4.64 (34 responses)
+Lunch With Aejaie, Flamingo Buffet, Wednesday: 4.63 (11 responses)
+PF Chang HH and Dinner, Wednesday: 4.63 (11 responses) (2 no-shows)
+Katie's Koffee Korner, Quad - any and all sessions: 4.62 (8 responses)
+Pole Dance Instruction, Wednesday: 4.62 (8 responses)
+Triple George dining option, Sunday: 4.60 (5 responses)
+Joe's HH and Dinner, Tuesday: 4.60 (5 responses)
+Good Times Social, Tuesday: 4.60 (5 responses)

+Grotto dining option, Golden Nugget, Sunday: 4.54 (11 responses)
+Fremont Street Experience, Sunday: 4.50 (14 responses)
+Satay HH and Dinner, Thursday: 4.50 (6 responses) (1 no-shows)
+Lunch With Aejaie, Rio Buffet, Monday: 4.50 (2 responses)
+Fantastic Indoor Swapmeet, Friday: 4.50 (2 responses)
. . . . .

Many activities usually place between 4.0 and 4.49 on the enjoyment
scale, but this year, as well as last year, there are far fewer. Why?
Because there are more in the higher 4.5-4.99 range. :)

On the grading scale, I would call this a solid B or a B+, as a rating
between 4.0 and 4.49 shows more "enjoyed significantly" or "enjoyed"
than all lesser categories. These activities are very much commendable
successes. 9 activities placed in this range this year

+2bShapely Figure & Fitting, Thursday: 4.41 (12 responses)
+Pre-DLV Get-Together, Saturday, Arts Factory: 4.33 (12 responses)
+Happy Hour and Dinner, Blue Ox, Sunday: 4.30 (10 responses)
+Beading Party, Spotlight Lounge, Monday: 4.28 (7 responses)
+Farewell Get-Together, Carmine's, Friday: 4.18 (43 responses)
+Happy Hour and Dinner, Carmine's, Friday: 4.12 (40 responses)
+Post-NSD Dinner, Luxor Buffet, Wednesday: 4.12 (8 responses)
+DLV Fantasy Ball, Kings Of Hustler, Thursday: 4.11 (45 responses)
+Ice Bar Happy Hour, Golden Nugget, Sunday: 4.0 (6 responses)
. . . . .

We usually have some activities which rate between 3 and 4 on the
enjoyment scale. While these scored less than most of the others,
they still scored on the positive side of neutral.

This year we had only three activities in this range, and all of them
had less than 5 responses. This compares to five last year and 10 in
2012 which scored in the 3.0-4.0 range.

These cannot be seen as failures. They were still enjoyed by the
majority of those participating.

We've often seen that there is a "story" behind these, explaining the
less than desired rating.

+Religious services, MCC, Sunday: 3.66 (3 responses)
+Pole Dance mini-lesson, Kings Of Hustler, Thursday: 3.66 (3 responses)
+Lunch With Ginger Harrah's Buffet, Sunday: 3.50 (4 responses)
. . . . .

We had (only) two activities place on the negative side of the enjoyment
scale this year, and both had more than 5 responses so the ratings are
most definitely valid and indicative of the enjoyment level (or in these
cases the lack of same, unfortunately) of those who participated.

+Beauty Bar, Sunday: 2.66 (6 responses)
+Stand-up Comedy Show, Carmine's, Friday: 2.53 (41 responses)

Yes there are reasons for the lower ratings.

For the Beauty Bar, an unexpected cover charge essentially killed what
was planned to be an enjoyable after-FSE common gathering.

At our final gathering, the comedian simply did not work. Look in the
comment section for more detail on this.
. . . . . . . . . .

+How many times have you attended Diva Las Vegas?

+Once: 23
+Twice: 9
+Three or more: 19
+Five or more: 16
+Ten or more: 14

This is the first year that we have broken out the detail of the multi
year attendees to this degree.

We see that the survey (and attendee base in general) is tilted toward
the longer-term multi-year attendees. Hmmmmm ... people must like us,
they keep coming back, over and over and over ... :)

We do have good representation of the first year attendees, however.
. . . . .

Labels of self-identity:

+I consider myself to be primarily a (an) ...

We don't define these terms. We simply track what our people report as
their labels of self-identity.

As long as we've been doing this survey, no single identity label has
represented the majority of the respondents. This year we came VERY
close to having a true majority as the numbers immediately below
reflect.

Crossdresser: 40
Transgender(ist): 18
I do not identify with any of the above labels: 7
Transvestite: 6
Pre-op: 4
No-op: 2
Post-op: 1
Bigender: 1
Transwoman: 1

We've tried to adjust the terminology to conform to the contemporary
vernacular, but try to retain a degree of consistency from year to year.

We've always added new terms when they appear to become common within
the TG community.

The term "trans(s)exual" has fallen out of favor. "Transition track
individual" is one term which retains the meaning. Likewise, many
consider the term "transvestite" to be anachronistic. We keep this as a
choice mainly because several of our respondents consistently report it
as their self-identity.

The term "transwoman" has become very popular, even trendy, over the
past year or so, but only one reported it as a self-identity label.

We had absolutely zero hits on any of the below:

+Drag queen: 0
+Genderqueer: 0
+Gender-nonconforming: 0
+Pangender: 0
+Transman: 0
+Intersex: 0
+H Benjamin Syndrome: 0
+Significant other: 0
+Admirer: 0
+Friend of the community: 0
+Friend of another attendee: 0

I'm very surprised that we had no responses to the "SO" and "Admirer"
categories this year! (I double-checked the raw data to be sure we did
not have an error in tabulation.)
. . . . .

+Do you belong to a local transgender support group?

+I am currently a member.: 21
+I have previously been a member.: 32
+I have never been a member.: 27

Fairly significant shift this year. The plurality now reports former, as
opposed to current membership. Numbers were 28/24/27 on last year's
survey.
. . . . .

+If you stayed in a local hotel, were you satisfied with the
+quality and condition of your room and the facilities of the
+property?

The satisfaction of hotels was higher this year, both for our three
suggested hotels and for others.

Only one neutral and one "not really" for satisfaction this year.
. . . . .

+If you stayed in a local hotel, what was your comfort level
+regarding the climate, culture, and attitude that you perceived
+there?

One neutral response was the lowest score on hotel comfort this year.
. . . . .

+Did you find yourself missing DLV activities because you either
+got into a time crunch or were simply too tired from previous
+activites?

+Seldom or never: 39
+Occasionally: 24
+Frequently: 8

About 48% of those who answered this question reported at least
occasional time management issues, which is, IMAO, significant. This
year we tried to keep the schedule clear of no-win time-crunch points. I
think that we (volunteers) for the most part chose realistic start times
for the activities.

My hunch is that many simply wanted to do more than time allowed them to
do.

If anyone knows of any specific bad timing this year, please let us
know.
. . . . .

These next two questions can be thought of as "more information"
requests as a follow-up on last year's survey. They have to do with the
daily "Lunch With" sessions and discussions on how we can increase the
level of participation in them.

+If we moved the start time of the daily lunch earlier to 11:30am
+rather than 1:00pm, would you be more likely or less likely to
+attend?

+I would be more likely to attend.: 16
+It does not matter to me.: 41
+I would be less likely to attend.: 12

Majority says it does not matter, but there's a slight preference for
the earlier time.
. . . . .

+For our daily lunch, would you be more likely to attend if these
+are held at a buffet or at a regular restaurant or full-service
+coffee shop?

+I strongly prefer a buffet.: 0
+I prefer a buffet but would attend at a regular restaurant.: 10
+It doesn't matter to me at all.: 37
+I prefer a regular restaurant but would attend at a buffet.: 12
+I strongly prefer a regular restaurant.: 10

Plurality says it really does not matter, however, the answers are most
definitely skewed away from buffets. See the comments for thoughts on
this issue.

Please note that none of the respondents strongly prefer a buffet!
. . . . .

The next few questions are systems related and have to do with a
bigger picture about how and by what methods we can more effectively
communicate with the attendee base during the event.

We rolled out activity sign-up reminders strictly as a test last year
and found them to be quite reliable. This year was the first true "in
production" use of the service.

I personally had these set for about every activity I planned to attend
plus some random other ones here and there so I could get a good feeling
of how well the system works. For me, the text messages came in just
fine every time.

+Did you use the activity reminder service (e-mail or text messages
+to your cell phone) and if so, did it work well for you?

+Yes, and it worked fine.: 10
+Yes, and it worked off and on.: 0
+Yes, but it seldom or never.: 1
+No, I did not use it..: 59
+I do not know what you are talking about.: 4

If the person who had difficulty with this would write in we would sure
appreciate it. We're most interested in which mobile carrier this person
was using.
. . . . .

These next two questions specifically address the capability (or lack of
same) to use services such as e-mail and web during the event.

+Did you have convenient and reliable e-mail service during DLV, using
+any method?

+Yes, and I checked e-mail frequently.: 52
+Yes, but I checked it infrequently.: 13
+No: 12

The vast majority of the respondents do indeed have some kind of e-mail
access during the event.
. . . . .

+Which of the following BEST describes your electronic communication
+abilities during our event?

+None, No phone, no e-mail, no nothing.: 1
+Hotel room phone only.: 0
+Personal home phone only, voice only.: 0
+Personal cell phone, voice only.: 5
+Personal cell phone, text capable.: 9
+Smart Phone, web capable.: 40
+Netbook or tablet with sporadic Internet access only.: 2
+Netbook or tablet with regular Internet access.: 8
+Full-size laptop or desktop with sporadic Internet access only.: 1
+Full-size laptop or desktop with regular Internet access.: 14

Likewise, the majority do have some kind of web access, with most of
those reporting a smart phone, which will usually be carried all of the
time.

Only 7% of the respondents do not have "text message or better"
communications during our event.
. . . . .

+Did you find the lack of a printed map and schedule to be an
+inconvenience?

+Yes, a major inconvenience.: 10
+No: 55
+Maybe a minor inconvenience.: 11

For two years in recent history we did hand out paper copies of maps and
schedules, mostly as an experiment to see if that was something that was
useful and practical.

It turned out to be labor-intensive and it cost real money.

If anyone who sees paper maps and schedules as a priority would like to
volunteer to produce and distribute them, let us know. We'll work with
you and give you camera-ready originals. Just let the ORG group know at
dlvorg@geekbabe.com
. . . . .

+Did you find the online maps to be helpful?

+Yes: 37
+No: 7
+I don't need a map: 24
+What maps?: 9

The number of responses "What maps?" bothers me. This says to me that
over 10% of our respondents did not know that we had a complete activity
map on line. Ditto for a few special maps and "drill down" Google maps
for each activity location.
. . . . . . . . . .

We don't define comfort. We record and track what the attendees report
as personal comfort levels for the various activities.

+What was your comfort level at each of the following activities?

22 activities placed 5.0 on the comfort scale this year!

+Ruths Chris Happy Hour and Dinner, Tuesday: 5.0 (12 responses)
+Grotto dining option, Golden Nugget, Sunday: 5.0 (11 responses)
+2bShapely Figure & Fitting Workshop, Thursday: 5.0 (11 responses)
+Lunch With Aejaie, Flamingo Buffet, Wednesday: 5.0 (10 responses)
+Audrey High Fashion Lounge Tour, Cosmopolitan, Wednesday: 5.0 (9 responses)
+Pole Dance Instruction, Wednesday: 5.0 (8 responses)
+Katie's Koffee Korner, Quad - any and all sessions: 5.0 (7 responses)
+Denny's Happy Hour and Dinner, Sunday: 5.0 (6 responses)
+Beading Party, Spotlight Lounge, Monday: 5.0 (6 responses)
+Joe's Happy Hour and Dinner, Tuesday: 5.0 (6 responses)
+Lunch With Ginger, Gold Coast Buffet, Friday: 5.0 (6 responses)
+Late Night Clubbing, Club Surrender - Wynn, Friday: 5.0 (6 responses)
+Triple George dining option, Sunday: 5.0 (5 responses)
+Lunch With Ginger, Paris Buffet, Thursday: 5.0 (5 responses)
+Bar Rescue Tour, Dennys Neonopolis, Sunday: 5.0 (4 responses)
+Art Tour - Painting Women, Bellagio Gallery, Tuesday: 5.0 (4 responses)
+Lunch With Ginger, Stratosphere Buffet, Tuesday: 5.0 (3 responses)
+Satay Happy Hour and Dinner, Thursday: 5.0 (5 responses)
+Pamplemousse dining option, Tuesday: 5.0 (2 responses)
+Lunch With Aejaie, Rio Buffet, Monday: 5.0 (1 responses)
+Pole Dance mini-lesson, Kings Of Hustler, Thursday: 5.0 (2 responses)
+Fantastic Indoor Swapmeet, Friday: 5.0 (2 responses)

Most of the others were clustered in the mid to high 4s. This is
exactly what we want to see.

Two activities placed lower than 4.0 on the comfort scale, and I would
say that there is some "cross-contamination" between enjoyment and
comfort regarding these two. :)

+Stand-up Comedy Show, Carmine's, Friday: 3.90 (40 responses)
+Beauty Bar, Sunday: 3.83 (6 responses)
. . . . . . . . . .

+Did you find the other DLV attendees to be friendly and inclusive?

+Mostly yes: 69
+Yes, somewhat: 6
+Neutral: 3
+No, somewhat: 2
+Mostly no: 0

Slight shift in the "friendly" direction this year. Since we started
asking this question, the neutral and below responses have always been
zero or in the low single digits and that's where we would like them to
stay.
. . . . .

+Would you prefer more activities be in mainstream venues, or more
+in discreet or secluded or alternative venues?

+I would prefer more secluded venues.: 7
+I would prefer more mainstream venues.: 20
+I think the balance was about right.: 50

Since we started asking this question, the majority have always stated
that the mainstream/alternative balance is good. We've also seen a slight
to significant "tilt" in favor of the mainstream.

This year, however, that tilt increased such that 20% of the respondents
are in the "more mainstream" camp.

If we do some peg counts against our schedule, we find that we had only
six alternative or "safe venue" activities this year. This is the lowest
number I can remember since we started the safe/major/mainstream venues.
Depending on how you count (replicate session, combine HH/dinner, etc.)
the number of mainstream activities this year can range from 40-some to
60-some.

We are most definitely seeing a shift in the mainstream direction, both
in terms of what our attendees want, and in what our volunteers are
planning.
. . . . .

+About how far did you travel to attend DLV 2014?

+Approximate average miles: 2100.0

This averageis a 20-some percent increase over last year's average
number, mainly due to the overseas attendees we had this year.
. . . . .

Approximate average length of stay: 5.42 days.

This number has remained incredibly consistent over many years. One item
of note is that this number changed very little when we went from a
seven day event back to a six day event some time ago.
. . . . .

+What is your approximate age?

+Approximate average age: 58.58

This number, as well, remains fairly consistent. Those of a more mature
age tend to have more disposable income and more available time to
attend events such as ours, so yes, our attendee base will be skewed
to this average age.
. . . . .

+I am a (an) ...

+Nonsmoker: 65
+Occasional smoker: 9
+Regular smoker: 5

Slight increase in those reporting as smokers this year.
. . . . .

+I consider myself to be a (an) ...

+Non-drinker: 15
+Social drinker: 56
+Regular drinker: 10

And a slight increase (17% to 19%) of non-drinkers this year.
. . . . .

+Have you ever attended any of the following transgender community
+events? (Weighted relative responses for each event.)

+Southern Comfort Conference 27
+Esprit 18
+Be-All 15
+Fantasia Fair 14
+Pinkfest 12
+Holiday Enfemme 10
+California Dreaming 9
+Colorado Goldrush 9
+Fall Harvest 8
+First Event 7
+Dignity Cruise 6
+Paradise in the Poconos 5
+Keystone Conference 5
+Texas T 4
+En Femme Getaway 1

Very similar to last year, with sharp increases in those reporting
attendance at HEF and Pinkfest.

This is the first year we have tracked Keystone, and it was indeed
represented by multiple DLVers.
. . . . .

Did you find our on-line registration procedure and activity sign-up to
be convenient and easy to use?

+Yes.: 75
+It was a bit confusing.: 4
+No.: 1
+I did not register or sign up on line.: 0

Shift in the positive direction. People are most likely getting used
to the on-line procedures. :)
. . . . .

+Did you have any technical or ergonomic difficulties when
+using our on-line registration or activity sign-up screens?

+Yes.: 2
+No.: 76
+I did not register or sign up on line.: 0

I know that one attendee reported issues when attempting to register
via a "Droid" smart phone. I was unable to duplicate the issue using
a similar device.
. . . . .

+Did you find yourself missing DLV activities because you were
+in any uncomfortable, unsure, or uneasy about attending?

+Never: 66
+Once: 4
+Occasionally: 4
+Frequently: 2

I would sure like to see more zeroes on this one, but it probably will
not happen simply due to human nature. As long as the numbers here stay
down in the low single digits, I think we have a good track record
regarding comfort at our activities.
. . . . .

+Did you have any difficulty getting a ride to DLV activities?

+Yes: 3
+No: 69

We like to see the "no" responses here stay down in the low single
digits.
. . . . .

+Did you have any difficulty finding the locations at which DLV 2014
+activities were held?

+Yes: 10
+No: 65

Likewise, we like to see the "yes" responses to this one stay in the low
single digits but unfortunately we have a higher rate of difficulty this
year.
. . . . .

+Did you have any difficulty contacting DLV volunteers by phone?

+Yes: 3
+No: 31
+I did not attempt to phone.: 43
+I never received any phone numbers.: 0

Marked decrease in difficulty this year. :)
. . . . .

+Did you have any difficulty identifying and/or contacting DLV
+organizers and volunteers in person at DLV?

+Yes: 4
+No: 70

Again, marked decrease in difficulty this year.
. . . . .

+Did you participate in the DLV Discussion Forum on the web or the
+associated mailing list?

+Yes, via e-mail: 17
+Yes, via Yahoo: 1
+Yes, via MyDLV: 34
+No: 24
+I don't know what you are talking about.: 2

And a most definite positive trend in degree of participation this year.
. . . . .

+Do you use MyDLV and if so how much?

+For the Discussion Forum only: 17
+For multiple features: 32
+None at all: 25
+What the heck is MyDLV?: 5

Definite increase (26 - 32) for use of multiple features this year.
. . . . .

+In general, were you comfortable being seen with the DLV group in
+general public settings?

+Comfortable most or all of the time.: 70
+Mostly comfortable, but sometimes uncomfortable.: 9
+Frequently uncomfortable.: 0

Definite positive shift in the "comfortable" direction for this year.
. . . . .

+Did you participate in our Big Sister program and if so, did you
+find it to be helpful?

+Last year's numbers in parentheses on this one.

+I had a Big Sister and I found the program to be helpful.: 6 (3)
+I had a Big Sister and I did not find the program to be helpful.: 1 (0)
+I was a volunteer Big Sister and had a positive experience.: 3 (4)
+I was a volunteer Big Sister and my Little Sister was a no-show.: 5 (1)
+I was a volunteer Big Sister and did not have a positive experience.: 2 (2)
+I did not participate in the Big Sister program.: 58 (71)
+I was unaware the Big Sister program existed.: 0 (1)

The big increase, a good thing, of course, is the number who reported
that they had a positive experience with their Big Sister.

I really think that the no-show number was exacerbated by the illness
issue this year.

With the "derogs" way down in the low single digits, it's difficult to
really get a handle on any issues or trends. What is important is that
most (Bigs and Littles) thought it was worthwhile.
. . . . .

For the "money" questions, three questions showed some significant
difference from last year.

An off-line remark was made that is was very difficult to come up with a
"coin in" gaming value. That question may be adjusted or retired next
year.

+Approximately how much did you spend on accommodations while you were
+attending DLV?

+Approximate average: 687.1

Roughly 18% increase over 2013. Yes, hotel prices are going up, and this
may be partly due to CET and their stupid mandatory "resort fee" that
they imposed this year. :(
. . . . .

+Approximately how much did you spend on food and non-alcoholic
+beverages while you were attending DLV?

+Approximate average: 392.85

Within two dollars of the average reported in 2013.
. . . . .

+Approximately how much did you spend on alcoholic beverages while
+you were attending DLV?

+Approximate average: 154.48

Just over one dollar higher than the average amount reported in 2013.
. . . . .

+Approximately how much did you spend on gaming (total bets or
+coin-in, not win or loss) while you were attending DLV?

+Approximate average: 364.74

Fairly significant decrease (37%) over the average amount reported in
2013 but there appears to be some uncertainty of exactly what we are
asking for with this question.

This may be replaced with a more generic checkbox type of question
regarding participation in gaming.
. . . . .

+Approximately how much did you spend on local transportation
+(rental car, taxi rides, Monorail pass, donation to others' fuel
+funds, etc.) while you were attending DLV?

+Approximate average: 101.94

About a 20% increase over the average amount reported in 2013.
. . . . .

+Considering all expenses of all types, what was the total amount
+you spent in order to attend and participate in DLV?

+Approximate average: 1959.86

Slight increase, but within $33 of the average reported in 2013.
. . . . .

+In general, did you consider DLV 2014 to be reasonable and
+affordable?

+Yes, definitely: 50
+Yes, somewhat: 24
+Neutral: 4
+No, somewhat: 1
+No, definitely: 0

Slight increase (45 to 50) in the "Yes, definitely" category this year,
all others within 1 count of the values reported in 2013.
. . . . .

+Which best indicates what DLV is to you?

+An opportunity to dress.: 18
+An opportunity to socialize.: 44
+An opportunity to party.: 4
+An opportunity to express myself.: 13
+An opportunity to learn.: 0

Somewhat of an increase (13 to 18) on the "dress" answer.

All others remain within one count of the values reported in 2013.
. . . . .

+Which best indicates your feelings toward our level of attention
+to and enforcement of behavior, dress, and restroom guidelines?

+I support a higher level of enforcement.: 4
+I support the current level of enforcement.: 66
+I don't like it, but I understand why it has to be.: 4
+It's a bunch of bullsh*t, knock it off!: 3

Very close to last year's numbers on this one.

Since BDR issues are mostly a thing of the past, this question may be
retired in the coming years.
. . . . .

+Did you think DLV was too long or too short?

+It was too long: 4
+It was too short: 6
+It was just about right: 67

Slight shift from "too long" to "too short" this year. Most still say
that it was just about right.
. . . . .

+And what about the request to wear name tags?

+I found them to be helpful: 30
+I don't really care either way: 36
+I did not like them: 10

Somewhat of a definite shift away from liking the name tags this year.

We will be addressing the topic of name tags again this year. Yes, many
consider them to be helpful, but they do cost real money and they are
labor-intensive to produce, carry around, and distribute.
. . . . .

+Did you personally have any public restroom issues while
+attending DLV 2014?

+I used public restrooms and YES I had issues or incidents.: 1
+I used public restrooms and did NOT have issues.: 63
+I seldom or never used public restrooms.: 11
+This question does not apply to me.: 3
+(One response discarded for inconsistency.)

Quite similar to last year's responses.
. . . . .

+All in all, did DLV 2014 meet your expectations?

+DLV 2014 exceeded my expectations: 27
+DLV 2014 met my expectations: 46
+DLV 2014 failed to meet my expectations: 5

Slight shift in the negative direction this year. We will have to
watch this for any developing trends.
. . . . .

+Would you attend another DLV?

+Yes, definitely: 48
+Yes, probably: 21
+Maybe: 8
+Probably not: 1
+Definitely not: 0

And a slight shift in the negative direction on this one too. We will
need to watch this one as well.
. . . . . . . . . .

Further comments are most welcome.

Thanks again to all for a very highly-rated and very enjoyable event
this year! :)
