Since I organized the Bare Minerals/ Escentuals makeup sessions, some
dinner arrangements and hosted the Figure & Fitting workshop, I need to
reply to this comment.

I paid regular price for my makeup during my personal sessions at Bare
Minerals. For the Dinners I ate, I paid my fair share of the bill and
for the Workshop, I did not allow anyone to purchase not even one
product.

So, WHY do this? Im a Teacher, event organizer and tech guru in my full
time activities. These events are an opportunity to learn from your
friends who have the same questions but different experiences. I made
several new friends during DLV. I drove many friends around who needed
transportation and did not ask for gas money.

DLV is so fortunate to have our Leaders who are generous with their time
and talents. I have gotten to know most of them and found them all of be
honest and giving people.

I hope this clarifies our position on this subject {Do I have to explain
Christmas?}

Let's address this one right off the bat and put to rest any concerns about improprities ...

We've had commercial activities each and every year since 1998 when the group was invited to a (long-closed) shoe shop.

The reason we have commercial activities is that our people enjoy them and request them. The commercial activities tend to be low-pressure and geared specifically toward our crowd. They tend to be rated highly on both the enjoyment and comfort scales of our surveys.

> Are we morphing into a sales opportunity rather than a vacation?

One of the most frequently reported vacation activities is shopping.

I would say that our involvement is continuously evolving and definitely not "morphing" in a sales-oriented direction.

In the early years of DLV, long before the specialty boutiques came to Las Vegas, we had shopping excursions and they were very popular. Many in our community were shy to go shopping for clothing and such and having the company offered a degree of comfort.

Vendors started coming to us. They wanted our business. "Open House" sessions became common.

These are now evolving into more hands-on affairs, things such as instructional makeovers and one-on-one advice.

It's win-win. The vendors get the business, our people get the products and services that they like.

I can state with 100% confidence that this is not the case.

If this happened to be going on, at least one of the senior volunteers would have certainly caught wind of it and put a stop to it. It is not the style of our organizers and volunteers to take kickbacks and such.

Now, if if you or anyone has any evidence that any of this is going on, we need to know about it! No, you're not being a tattletale, you are bringing light upon a situation that runs contrary to our core values. If you're uneasy reporting it, write to me personally (annie at geekbabe dot com) and I will assure discretion and confidentiality.
