Los Angeles

Postby Jennifer » Sun Jan 26, 2014 8:14 pm

Hi, I'm sort of new to this. I've never dressed in public that is. I have, however, been dressing to some degree or another, since I was very young and trying on my moms clothes. Now I have my own clothes, but don't know much about makeup and other things that will help me pass.

I was wondering if anyone knows of someplace in the Los Angeles area that can help me with this. Someplace like Glamor Boutique, or other such shop.

Thank you.

I haven't gone yet myself, but they come highly recommended.

P.S. There's a night at Hamburger Mary's in Long Beach the first
Saturday of the month (check out:

http://tgirlnights.com

for info on the event). The shop usually gets a room at a nearby hotel
and schedules makeovers before the event.

Hi Jennifer,

I have not personally used their services, but know girls who have gone to
Countessa's Closet in Studio City...

Check out their website:

http://www.countessascloset.com/Index.htm.

And I hope to see you in Las Vegas for Diva Las Vegas 3/30-4/4!

I was just in Studio City visiting relatives and drove past the
Contessa's Closet store. It was closed and the space was being
advertised for lease. You may want to call the phone number on the web
site before driving over there.

Sarah is correct. Her Studio City store on Ventura Blvd closed a while ago. Website still active though.
Glamour Boutique closed over a year before Countessa.

Transformation by Gina I believe is still active She is pretty busy though with ladies wanting makeovers from Club Shine Thursdays and Saturdays. I've heard good things but no first hand experience,

A new place open in Orange County near Disneyland. Chapman in Anaheim. It is called Femme Reflections. Run by a Ms. Gloria. Number is 714-638-4151. FemmeReflections.com
Was thinking about going there myself

Should attend Diva Las Vegas. It's going to be fun. They have Big Sisters for first timer to DLV and especially first time in public. I am a volunteer. Hope you can come.

When I first came out in Los Angeles 8 years ago, I remember visiting Glamour Boutique LA. The store used to be Jim Bridge's Boutique before he retired. The new manager was super friendly and supportive. It is where I bought my first corset and breast forms. Unfortunately when they lost their lease, the manager decided to move on. I was never impressed by Contessa's Closet. It seemed overpriced and full of cheap jewelry and clothing that wasn't any better than Claires or Ross. I don't miss it but LA does need a good TG-focused store.

If all you need is makeup, I recommend the MAC counter. It may be mainstream but it is great value. They will give you a free makeover if you buy $50 of makeup. At the store I visit in west LA, one of the makeup artists does drag in the evenings so he knows all the tricks.

I would also be willing to help you myself, though we would still need to go shopping for makeup to find the right skin tones etc.

I would be curious if anyone try's Gina's or Femme Reflections. My profile pic on the right is from a makeover I had in London (they have some great services there) but that is bit out of the way :)
