No delaying, no, not nun

Wow, that got the conversation going. :)

>Now, am I missing something here? TG Nuns acting non-nunlike in a
>casino and no-tell motel is not going to draw negative and unwanted
>attention to DLV and TGs?

Let's take a trip to the real world. The nun-fest (at least in a
mainstream venue) has about as much chance of making it to the official
DLV activity list as Rabbi Feldstein does of being elected Pope.

Such an activity, should it happen, would be people going off and
doing it on their own, and would therefore be in category 4, Non-DLV
activities, over which the DLV organizers have no control.

If people choose to do this, they do it on their own and accept the
risks of doing so.

Personally, the nun thing doesn't appeal to me, and I think my
involvement will be to watch ... from a distance ... and possibly
record it with That Damn Camera ... from a distance of course. :)

However (comma) I do think cruising the Strip in a hearse would
be a lot of fun. :) :)

>I am scaling back from now on so others will not be offended and I
>will blend more with the group and set the proper image we are ALL
>attempting to portray.

I think the biggest effect the new policy has had so far is that of
misunderstandings. If you're in the 90%+ who always makes a serious
attempt to dress and act appropriately, nobody's asking you to change
anything! NO, there's absolutely no calling for 90%+ of our people to
back off, scale back, dress down, or whatever else you might call it.

If your style happens to be a bit "brighter" than some others, but you
keep what needs to be covered covered, and you are within the bounds,
dress and behavior wise, of what's expected in mainstream society,
you shouldn't be offending anybody.

Hi all,

About the Nun thing... I know some are thinking it is a very cool idea,
on the other hand others may be thinking (me included) that portraying a
group of gambling, drinking etc. Nuns in a casino invites TROUBLE. Not
only is it insensitive to the religious minded, it is also NOT what we
(as DLVers) are trying to represent.

Let's agree to ask those who intend to participate in the "Nun-Fun" that
they DO NOT identify themselves as part of DLV when confronted. Being a
former Casino Security Officer and a present day Dealer, I am positive
this group WILL BE confronted.

To quote LeeAnna this "Maybe even News at 11 type of trouble".

Gang,

I still have a problem with this whole idea under the DLV umbrella,
despite being a 'bit brighter' as our foundress puts it. We are not out
to put our TG'ism in anyones face, and this whole nun thing is doing
that very thing, IMO. I've said my peace and personally, I'm quite fed
up with this whole issue.

I will again REMIND us all, about what DLV is all about, and by now we
all know what DLV is all about. If ya'll want to do something 'off
label', fine by me, however I will not condone or support any activity
that exploits the efforts of other DLV sisters and other T-org groups
(which I belong to) that are trying to make a difference for the
betterment of our own lives and the future of our other new and
upcoming sisters.

I didn't realize that was the week of Mother's Day.

Absolutely no way can I go the week of Mother's Day (and remain married)
:-(

Plus, without a Saturday night stay, air fares are higher.

You all have fun.

Hugs,

As I see it-- This "nun -event" would not reflect well on anyone
including DLV. This is something more Halloween or New Orleans on Fat
Tuesday. More to the core: Having fun at the expense of other people
or religion does not reflect well on those who would do such. Let's
keep our eyes on the ball and plan a fun positive week that brings
people together!!!!

With hugs and caring.. JoAnn

OK. Here's two more cents for the kiddy.

This whole nun thing seems to be going too far. It isn't what DLV is
all about. In fact, to me, it parallels some of the outrageous
activities performed by certain motorcycle organizations and will
certainly be taken in a very negaive way by Mr. & Ms. Public.

Over the years, we've been taught to present a demeanor of high
standards about ourselves and something like this can have no
consequence but to degrade that.

I am not a catholic either but I'm glad to hear that others dislike the
Nun thing too. It sounds like a good way to get arrested and/or beaten
up to me. And possibly bring an end to a very special annual vacation
which means a lot to quite a few. I thought I had found a group with
whom I could feel safe and get to do some terrific mainstream stuff with
but I am sorry to say I feel it slipping away. I think that if we are
going to spend all summer Adhocing the system to death and then planning
totally inappropriate events which contravene the ideas of the whole
document then it means nothing at all and we might as well not use it.
Also if we are looking to scare off new attendees and the girls who
would prefer to be what I thought Dlv'ers to be then we are going in the
right direction.

I'm sorry if this offends anyone but I can't say in all honesty that I
helped plan an annual vacation week by being a member of the ORG group
and then letting others do all the objeting while I sat back in silence
only to regret it later so let's keep DLV what it is and let the
Halloweeners do Vegas on halloween.

First impressions are everything and you can only ruin a reputation
once!

Thank's for listening. Kate.

Been watching the thread on this one. Consider this for a second, if a
group of skinheads dressed up as trannies and went bar hopping, would
some of us be offended? Most likely. Consider the parallel and decide if
such an event would be a blatant disregard for others feelings and
relidgeous beliefs.

2 cents thrown in.......I'm gone. :)
