For those of you who may not get the above reference, it was
in regard to an incident which happened in DLV's early days,
in fact the very first DLV.

This tale, as well as others are chronicled in our "War Stories"
section, on the web at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/war.html

This includes such lore as how DLV started, Galiano {sic}, the Del
Mar Motel, as well as a number of personal blow-by-blow accounts
of DLV experiences.

Check these items out, as I'm sure many of you are unaware of what
a colorful event you are now part of. :)

Oh, and if you have a story to add to this section, just write it
up and send it in. We haven't had any "War Stories" submissions
for quite a while. (Actually, we haven't really been soliciting
them either.) :)

Rosada: Hint! :)

(Maybe we need a chapter on Cisco Wine, huh?) :)

Hear Hear! This story does qualify and meets the requirements!
I agree and move to add this story to that section!

>From Wikipedia - online:

# Cisco is the brand name of a highly alcoholic, low-price fortified
# wine, produced by the Centerra Wine Company

# (a division of Constellation Brands) with varieties selling at 17.5%
# and 19.5% alcohol by volume. Cisco has a distinctive syrup-sweet
# taste and, because of its color and bottle shape, was often
# mistaken for a wine cooler. The Federal Trade Commission forced
# the company to put a label on the bottle stating it was not a
# wine cooler and had the company change its marketing strategy
# from "Takes You By Surprise". [7].

Wikipedia has also equated this wine to the term "wino wine".

Definitely not a wine cooler and it had that high level of proof! ...
but the red color is what you notice first. I wonder if it stains a
clothing item, would the stain be permanent? .. then is similar to some
flavored syrup we have locally that has close to the same taste, but no
alcohol. :-)

"Liquid crack" is a term used sometimes to describe Cisco wine.

Cisco wine is kind of a running-gag thing in the techie community,
due to the sharing of the name with a brand of networking and
telephony gear.

Taste-wise, it's along the line of a mix of vodka and strawberry
kool-aid. It makes Boones Farm taste like a prime vintage. In
comparison, Galiano {sic} even tastes good!

The reason it's getting mention here is that due to a scheduling
screw-up, one group of DLVers had nothing to drink but Cisco wine
(which was brought along as a joke) one evening!

Why is it that whenever a "new" alcoholic drink is discussed,
Annie already knows about it and can accurately describe its
taste and history? It just gets one thinking!

She must have been a bartender in a previous life.

Love ya,

Gina

You're not fooling anybody, ANSI. I can't ever remember you
refusing a glass of Galiano {sic}, or even seconds.
