I agree wholeheartedly with Cathy's comments. The better the restaurant
the less there seems to be an issue.
During this last DLV either by myself or in groups wi/we went to:
- Stratosphere - Top of The World
- Paris - Mon Ami Gabi
- Wynn - Steve Wynn Steakhouse
- Ceasars - Trevi
- Venetian - Mexican one in the shopping part
- IHop at the Outlet Centre
- Luxor - Cafi (Several times)
- Bellagio - Cafe
- Mortons Steak House (opp Bahama Breeze)
- Grand Canyon West - Packing Shed!
- Rio - Buffet
The more you pay the better the attention you get. You definitely
get a better class of staring and more mature and respectful look
of surprise! :-)
Seriously ... No problems with any of these.
Four of us went to Top of the World on the first Sunday before DLV
and had a great meal and the atmosphere and view were excellent...
not cheap but I thought it was worth it.
Mon Ami Gabi was the farewell lunch for five of us. Got there about
11:30-45 on the Sunday after DLV and got a really nice table on the
veranda. Food was excellent and the views and surroundings excellent.
Didn't seem like we were overly obvious.
The SW steakhouse was superb and one of the few places I have had
Matre'd come up and ask me if I felt everyone was treating me OK.
Food was excellent and I had no problems with any of the staff.
Very expensive but I ate and drank well. Would do it again at the
drop of a bra strap!
Trevi is as good as the old Bertolini's. Ate there twice, once in
the group EON and again the following week. No problems and the
food was good. Nice atmosphere and the staff were helpful.
Venetian Mexican place was my third choice that day...the others
had long waiting times. Food was well presented and OK but MY
choices weren't that good.
Ihop. Initially got a few looks but then everyone ignored me. Nice
breakfast and it was that expensive.
Luxor Cafi. Group and by myself. Had a few stares but they soon
passed. Bit expensive for a coffee shop but that's the Luxor for you!
Surprisingly enough there was a longish wait to get into the Bellagio
Cafi at 1:30am after the Limo tour. However once in we were served
with its usual quality if expensive meal.
Mortons. Excellent steak and the service was excellent Good company ...
A group of 7-8. Have to been to other Mortons and this one was as
good as those. Steak was absolutely excellent and I didn't hear a lot
of complaints from anyone else either! And GIRL, do I love those
Baked Idaho potatoes!
Ambience! Fresh Air! Country cooked food! There may be no more classic
place than the native American open kitchen at Grand Canyon West. The
wind howled, the Koreans loitered with no intent to move as we lined
up and fought our way through them to get our piece of chicken and
mashed something for lunch after a frighteningly breezy day on the
SkyWALK! Would not recommend the food, the comfort of the seating
arrangements nor ambient atmosphere! Scenery wasn't bad though!
And as for the restrooms, well that was a breezy and cooling
experience for any cat!
Other Restaurants:
As for Carluccio's. This place is OK and the food is one the same
level as Elvis was this year. Elvis has the stage area which was
really needed for the presentations etc. Didn't eat at Carluccios
in 2005 for a variety of reasons including going to a real meal
at Smith and Wollensky!
Elvis's food was absolutely 100% OK. Didn't see any of the issues
with drinks and slow services etc that one or two others have
commented on. We were a big group and we were accepted. Many
arrived late and seemed like they just HAD to wait to be served.
Being on time helps get served on time!
Sahara & Rio Buffet (all buffets) are OK if you like getting up and
down, up and down. If quantity is more important than quality
they're OK as well. But for evening meals forget it. Breakfast at
the Rio was excellent value (with some coupons) the food was OK.
But honestly I just don't like getting up and down, up and down.
>Just my thoughts
Yeah, mine too!!!!
Honestly if you want to be treated as lady, you need to dress as a
lady but of this requires somewhere to go as a lady. Fine restaurants
are one of the ways that dressing up in Vegas is accepted and even
encouraged.
Next year I have no doubt that I will in company with friends end up
at many of these and other similar places again.. I, personally,
don't mind spending $$$$ for a good meal with good service and good
company but I really dislike having pay for poor food, service and
surroundings.
There appears to me to be an increasing number of attendees who
have no issues with higher priced eating places and if the
experience at Trevi, Mortons, Top of the World, Mon Ami Gabi are
a guide have absolutely NO trouble dressing for the occasion.
Aiko's call for more mainstream activities is fully supported by me.
The more the better but....I do appreciate that we need to allow
for both beginners and those less well off. There needs to a balance
between three (probably competing) perspectives:
- Good / Fine Quality Dinning activities
- Low Cost / Group dinning activities
- Personal or Small group versus big group activities.
Without any doubt I thought BOTH SUEDE and ELVIS's were OK. But the
problems Suede had with its food (for whatever reasons) were real as
witnessed by ones its victims scampering across the 18th green to
the clubhouse toilet in full flight to avoid a very embarrassing
accident, the next day. So for the matter is the Bahama Breeze,
Blue OX and Carluccios and many others we have frequented.
I had fries at the Blue OX during the SBS social and as fries go,
they were OK! I had one round of drinks at Bahama Breeze and while
the drinks were Ok the bar service was a best sluggish.
We need places that can accommodate larger groups. Whether anyone
likes it or not sometimes the service will be slower than we would
normally expect. Live with it and go socialise with others while
you wait! :-)
Anyway, as a life member of Eaters Anonymous, I can personally admit
to being an EATER! It seems that all attempts to break this habit of
a lifetime is SEVERELY and terminally inhibited by the those I
socialise with being chronic eaters as well. While this condition
will remain with me for the foreseeable future I see no reason not
to indulge and enjoy the consequences of it by eating in some of
Las Vegas's, nee the world better eating establishments!
Hugs (from the increasingly bigger)

Please also note that during the extremely good exchange rate (NZ-US)
at the moment my 2 cents worth is now 3.4 cents!
