Please note that the *correct* dates proposed for DLV-2008 are Monday,

This time frame gets two thumbs up from us!!

Call for comments - DLV 2008 dates proposed ...

The DLV Organizers' Group is proposing the timeframe of Monday, April
21 thru Saturday, April 28 for DLV 2008.

Yes, this happened earlier this year than it has happened in the past.

A one-month call for comments, ending July 15, 2007, is now in effect,
prior to these dates being final.

This timeframe received significant support in DLVORG and was decided
by acclamation. One other timeframe was nominated, but failed to get
a second, making this proposal very close to unanimous.

Due diligence was done prior to announcing these dates, to be sure
that large conventions which would drive up room rates are avoided,
and to avoid such conflicts as the family holidays of Easter and
Mothers Day.

The floor is now open for your comments and will be open until
July 15. To comment, simply reply to this posting.

All comments received will be assumed to be public unless you say
otherwise.

Oops, my bad. {blush}

My mistake. (I won't try to blame it on the proofreader who look over
the drafts of all of the general mailings either.) :)

I'll post a correction in the Discussion Forum. Hopefully this will
not warrant a correction spammed out to 750+ recipients, but we will
do a correction in the next general mailing.

Call for comments - DLV 2008 dates proposed ...

Hi all,

For what's its worth the early announcement and confirmation of the dates
for DLV can only be considered good for DLV. It provides certainty for the
organisers of the many activities and allows extended time to consider and
plan for new and interesting activities.

The dates proposed and being distributed for comment WILL NOT suit everyone,
as in previous years. Some people will find either now or at some point down
the track that they have a clash with some other part of their life. This
happens.

The dates seem to offer a very good compromise between Las Vegas being too
hot, too cold cold, too windy, too crowded and too expensive. The dates do
not fall on on either NAB or other very large event and most other
conferences that are scheduled will be small enough to have minimal impact
on either DLV or the hotel prices. In other words they are the "general
noise" of Las Vegas at any time of the year.

Form a personal perspective, these dates look real good at this time:

- I can go to NAB in the week prior to DLV
- I can go to N+I in the week after DLV
- The week of DLV has a public holiday in NZ and so I miss less work days
where I could otherwise earn money!
- April is generally a good time to vist LV with weather being relatively
mild although as this year showed we had high temps from the 60's through
100's.

Lets go with these and lets get on with the real planning

Well done, Aiko, Annie et al for getting this resolved so early!

Michelle
