This is probably an oversimplification, but it's the rejection of
the ages-old dichotomy of male/female and masculine/feminine and
identifying as either "none of the above" or as some nebulous
"third gender", to put it in very simple terms.
It's a relatively new concept to many in the "gender community"
and I would go as far to say that in some younger crowds it's
somewhat trendy to identify as genderqueer.
