>Perhaps part of the problem is that we have transgendered people of all

Ginger brings up a very good point. Our attendees are quite a mix of
all types, all ages, all backgrounds, all persuasions, all political
leanings, and all points on the TG spectrum. The only thing they have
in common is that most of them identify with the TG community to one
degree or another.
Back when DLV first happened, back in 1997, it was an in-real-life
get-together of those who knew each other on line. It was never a
"fetish and fantasy" event of any kind.
Here and now in 2007, DLV is intended to be an opportunity to celebrate
life and to enjoy each other's company. Very much the same as it was
in 1997, except of course on about a 25-fold scale. :)
Another thing that DLV is not is stodgy and staid. It tends to be
fast-paced and a lot of fun, and downright crazy at times.
