Activity highlight -- Art Tour

This week we highlight Wednesday's Art Tour as our featured DLV 2006
activity.
. . .

Now in its third year, Sarah and JoAnn have planned an Art Tour this
year which will be more interesting to those who might ordinarily skip
such an activity. This will occur Wednesday of DLV week. As Sarah
writes:

We have been reviewing the various exhibits that will be open during DLV
this year and would love to host a visit to the Guggenheim - Hermitage
Museum at the Venetian. The museum is cosponsored by two of the great
art museums in the world and the exhibit is titled "Rubens and His Age:
Masterpieces from the Hermitage Museum".

The exhibition centers around Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640), whose
enormous talent and versatility made him one of the preeminent and most
creative artists of the 17th century. This exhibition features nearly
fifty masterworks of the Hermitage's collection of Flemish baroque
paintings and decorative arts. Rubens felt art should closely resemble
human anatomy and developed his signature portrayal of fleshy, robust
nudes.

This isn't for the faint of heart and it's not just for art snobs
either. Recently an exhibit of Rubens art and sculpture at conservative
Brigham Young University was subjected to some censorship as some of the
pieces were just a little too realistic for young minds. I don't doubt
that if he were painting today, both Dolly Parton and Pamela Anderson
would be favored models for Rubens.

We plan to hit the exhibit on Wednesday around 11:00 AM. The cost is
$19.50 per person, but there may be discounts for seniors or groups.
We should be able to finish in time to go to a 1:00 lunch with Ginger at
Harrahs.

This is a mainstream venue and dress should be mainstream casual or boy
mode. Please, we would like to continue our positive experience of no
formal or club wear for this experience.

We welcome new attendees and signficant others as well. Those of us who
have done this in the past find it to be well worth the time it takes to
get ready at this time of the day!

There are other museums in Las Vegas we have visited in the past and
have been warmly received. The Las Vegas Art Museum and Liberace come
to mind. And there are several other sites that were on our short list
including the Atomic Testing Museum, the Art Museum at the Bellagio and
the Gambling Museum at the Tropicana. If anyone is interested in going
to any of those please let us know and we'll try to link folks together
for informal visits.

Dress: Nice casual to daytime dressy, boymode or girlmode. No costumes,
clubwear, slutty/fetish, or evening/formal wear please.

Sign-up is requested but not required. You may sign up for the Art Tour
at activity sign-up time, which begins March 26.
