Depends where you're flying out of. From the East Coast, the fares are
always pretty expensive.

Fares are based purely on supply and demand. Round trips are through the
roof is you want to pick your flight times. I found this year that
it's a lot cheaper to book separate one-way flights on different
airlines. The flight times are a bit inconvenient, but I got a $99
Southwest non-stop Providence to Las Vegas (down side: 6 AM departure)
and a $79 Delta flight back LAS to PVD (down side Saturday at midnight
departure).
