She may have had the strength not to care. I once knew an old cowboy
and biker, who wore silly light green tennis shoes with big tongues
hanging out of them. ( I called them "cowbikers ). When I told him that
they looked ridiculous, he said..."So what?"
We have a dress code for some activities, and suggested dress for
others, because to dress inappropriately during these events would cause
unwanted attention which would keep some people from enjoying the event.
As for getting from your hotel to an anything-goes event, what you wear
through the lobby and elevators shouldn't be a problem. People are
always coming and going to crazy events. The only time I have been
laughed at was when I was wearing a nun's habit and carrying a bottle of
Galiano (sic), and I laughed right along with them. If you want, you
can come up with a funny story about why you're dressed the way you are,
but don't volunteer it unless someone asks.
