Activity highlight -- Side trip to Death Valley:
Between now and DLV, each week (most, anyway) we will cover one of our
activities in detail here in the DLV Discussion Forum.
A link will be posted to these in in the general mailings.
This week we feature our Monday side trip to Death Valley.
This is a rescheduling of our Death Valley trip which was originally
planned for DLV 2005 but had to be postponed due to road closures from
flood damage.
We'll carpool and explore the south end of Death Valley National Park,
with planned stops at Badwater, Devil's Golf Course, Artist's Drive,
the Visitor Center, and Zabriskie Point. It will be warm, but decent
and not nearly as hot as it will be in the summer.
Badwater is the site of the lowest-altitude paved road in the
hemisphere. This will be a very scenic trip. Bring your camera
to capture the scenery!
A brunch stop with several options (buffet, food court, coffee shop)
is planned on the way to Death Valley.
Dress: Casual required, boymode or girlmode. Appropriate shoes required
(flats or athletic), as you will be walking on unpaved surfaces.
It's estimated to be about 6 hours total, so wear something you are
comfortable wearing for several hours.
Cost: Modest donation to your driver's gas fund will be expected, plus a
portion of the park entry fee for your vehicle. Brunch will be on one's
own with several options, all reasonable in price.
This will be the first DLV activity for quite a few of our people. DLV
check-in will be available at the rendezvous point before the trip
departs.
