This is indeed the time to get any concerns regarding the dates to us.
No, DLV 2004 dates are not in stone as of this time, they are in pencil.
However, there was such a clear majority of the ORG people in favor
of the May 3-8 timeframe that I doubt this will change unless some
unforseen factors appear.
The big problem with the April 19-24 timeframe is that it locks out two
of our long-time attendees. One with prior job commitments, the other
with overseas travel difficulties.
Yes, weather was one factor that we considered, and we did look into the
temperature situation. In April and May, the high and low temperatures
will tend to increase on average about 2 degrees F each week. This will,
by the law of averages, make it about 4 degrees warmer during the May
3-8 timeframe than during the April 10-24 timeframe.
Will this change in temperature be perceptable to some? Probably.
Is this enough of a concern to exclude two of our long-time people over
the temperature difference. IMAO, no.
I'm not a meteorologist (my dad was, I'm certainly not one), but I
have a feeling there will be more variance from day to day and from
year to year than there will be predictable increase over two weeks.
For example, DLV 2001 was the first week in May, and on Wednesday I had
to leave Keys and pick up somebody at the airport and it was very cool
out, so much that I almost turned on the heat in the van.
But anyway ...
For a change of these dates to occur, here's what must happen:
1. There must be a significant number of objections raised by the DLV
people as a whole regarding the proposed dates.
2. There must be a motion for a re-vote within the ORG group, and a
second to that motion.
3. A significant number of ORG people who voted for the proposed dates
must change their minds and vote for another timeframe.
