Suggested Hotels for Diva Las Vegas 2004

(updated Feb. 4, 2004)

Attention:

The hotel suggestions for DLV 2004 are just that, suggestions. There's no requirement that you stay in our suggested hotels. No arrangements have been made, no rooms have been reserved specifically for DLV, and no special rates have been negotiated. (History has shown that the "special group rates" offered to groups of our size by Las Vegas hotels are actually higher than those available to the general public via the web.)

It has been brought to our attention that one of the properties which appeared on this list in the past was nominated for inclusion on this list in error.

It's most likely a very nice place, but it was not the property that she had intended to nominate.

We regret any inconvenience.

The following hotels are suggested for DLV 2004 attendees:

(in alphabetical order)

These suggestions are made for those who want to know where our people have stayed and reported good service, and where to stay if they want to be near other DLV people.

A word about hotel rates ...

Las Vegas hotel rates for any given hotel vary considerably depending on where you book (hotel, web site, travel agent), when you book, who you talk to, and countless other factors.

Sometimes a hotel's own web site or reservation desk will quote the lowest rate for their hotel, many times they will not. Sometimes the hotel's web site will quote a lower rate than their reservations department or vice versa. Sometimes travel sites (like Travelocity) or an independent travel agent will be able to beat a hotel's own quoted rates, and sometimes they will not.

It is suggested that you check the hotel's web site, phone the hotel, check the travel sites, and check with a travel agent and compare all quoted rates.

  • Rates seldom go down, and often go up, significantly, as the date approaches. Book early (book often)!

  • If you don't seem to be getting good rates, phone back or try the web a bit later. Rates change frequently, and different agents have been known to quote widely varying rates.

  • Ask the reservations agent if there are any promotional rates available. Sometimes special rates are quoted only if asked.

  • When you check in, ask the desk person if your rate is the best rate available. Some hotels will adjust rates on the spot if better rates are available. (This was witnessed personally at the IP for DLV 1998.)

  • Many hotels and web sites now have some kind of a "Best Rate Guarantee." Some of these are for real, but some have many conditions and strings attached.

A few notes on each hotel, including each hotel's official web site and (when available) a link to the CheapoVegas review of that hotel ...

Bellagio:

The Bellagio is an upscale casino-hotel dead center on the Las Vegas Strip. It's very nice and very expensive. This is by far the most expensive of our suggestions, and is suggested for those who want a more luxurious option for DLV accommodations.

Hint: Charles, the grave-shift bartender in the casino bar, knows the DLV crowd well.

Clarion Hotel and Suites Emerald Springs

The Clarion is a very nice non-casino hotel located on Flamingo Road between Las Vegas Blvd. (Strip) and Paradise Road. This option is good for those who don't want to stay on a gaming-oriented property, or for those who may be a bit shy to enter and exit via a large hotel lobby or casino.

CheapoVegas does not review non-casino hotels, but the link above does include a good description of the property.

Imperial Palace:

Imperial Palace is a large midscale casino-hotel in the Center Strip area. Big advantage to the IP is location-location-location. The IP has been used by DLV people each year since 1997 with absolutely no reported incidents.

Hint: Imperial Palace desk personnel have been known to adjust rates on the spot at check-in if better rates are available. Ask!

Sahara:

The Sahara is one of the classic legacy Las Vegas casino-hotels which has been home-away-from-home to DLV people continuously since 1999. Very good rates are often available at the Sahara, if booked well in advance.

Hint: Reservations agents will often quote an additional $10 (or so) for "deluxe" rooms in the newer Tangiers tower. If you reserve a regular room, you have a significant chance of being given one of these "deluxe" rooms at check-in even though you will be paying the lower rate.

San Remo:

The San Remo (nee Treasury) is a smaller casino-hotel just off the Strip near the MGM and Tropicana hotels. It was a favorite of the DLV 2003 crowd. San Remo hosts the ever-popular Showgirls Of Magic.

Stratosphere:

The Stratosphere is a large midscale hotel which anchors the very north end of the Las Vegas Strip. This is the first year the Strat appears on our suggested list, but some of our people have played and stayed there ever since 1999.
