This was my second DLV and my second trip to Las Vegas. Again it was a
wonderful experience and important to my feminine self-concept and
development. DLV this year was so special that it seemed to end almost
before it began and is a blur of good memories. Like last year, those
attending and whom I was fortunate to spent time with were wonderful in
every way! What I'’d give to have your support and company when I go out
locally. I brought fewer clothes than last year, but still too many. But
then we had to have red pumps and a bag for Wednesday didn'’t we! Now
that we’ve all made that investment let’s vote for red shoe night again!
I stayed at the Sahara again and found I was accepted everywhere I went
in the hotel. Yes, there were a lot of younger guests, but I didn'’t draw
any unwanted attention. In fact the only attention I know I drew
occurred while I was waiting on a friend. After sitting on a sofa with
an older (a true blue hair) lady for almost 30 minutes, she asked if I
was waiting on a shuttle? Unfortunately, my voice gave me away and her
look and response was priceless, but polite! The coffee shop and buffet
both offered the kinds of things I crave like veggie burgers and a great
salad selection with wonderful ready to eat citrus fruit for very
reasonable prices! The only complaint was the Tunis Tower’s HVAC system
which was only cooling while most of the time I wanted heat!
I arrived Tuesday evening in time to make the Welcome Celebration at
Flex where I had so much fun I didn'’t leave until it was time to turn
in. I attended the Hidden Woman Open House, Wednesday afternoon, but
they were running behind and perhaps had more people than their suite
could accommodate. The dinner and Michael Cagle Show followed by the
Drag and Divas Show at Sasha's was really good. I know some people
thought Michael'’s part was too long, but he was enjoying himself so
much it'’s hard to complain! Stephanie Williams is a super performer and
a really nice helpful person so seeing her and her show was special! In
fact, some of us went back later in the week for more Stephanie and some
of her divas! It was fun watching others do karaoke at Goodtimes
afterwards.
The Glamour Boutique Open House, Thursday was excellent as was the
Jubilee Show at Bally's. Afterwards, my main concern was finding an
available ladies room before boarding a limousine. The one nearest the
theater had a long line, but I found another, and although it was
crowded, no one took notice. The no-shows apparently caused some
confusion for the limousine tour, but the organizers handled it well and
we all found a place! There was also some confusion on the limousine
tour when the lead driver parked in a wrong spot at the Mirage causing a
long walk in the cold wind, but at least this year I wore more sensible
shoes!
At Carluccio's on Friday they gladly exchanged the Alfredo sauce for a
more healthy marinara sauce. I'’ve got no complaints about the mixer at
Goodtimes and later a group of us had a great time dancing at Gipsy!
I was a late arrival at the Southern Belle Society Garden Party on
Saturday. However, there was still a good crowd and I was among the last
to leave. Mindy and Diane get a gold star for hosting us! I was saddened
and shocked to learn that some didn'’t contribute to its financial
support.
I was a little late to happy hour and dinner at the San Remo, but
enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with those present. I didn'’t find
the San Remo buffet’s food selection as suitable for my diet as the
Sahara buffet, but survived. The Showgirls of Magic presentation was
great, but I thought we could have been more considerate of the
showgirls and cast members posing with us afterwards.
For English High Tea at the Four Seasons on Sunday afternoon I dressed
in my most demure light blue sheath with bone low heel pumps and purse!
Others were even more elegantly attired and we seemed to fit right in.
Only afterwards did any guests notice we were different and they wanted
pictures! The Four Seasons provided a wonderful atmosphere for this
special gathering!
The Farewell Get-Together, Sunday night was one last chance to see some
people who are becoming close friends although they live far away. Some
seemed to be a little bitchy about the weeks’ events, but I attribute
that to the stress of the week and a few isolated problems that I wasn'’
aware of until then.
