OK,
Fact: Hunters is a business that serves alcohol, and therefore, is
licensed.
Fact: Such businesses are required to "card" customers.
Fact: Only legitimate, official ID's are acceptable proof of
identity/age.
Fact: If a police officer enters the establishment, and asks any one
person for their ID, and that person does not have a valid ID, the
business will lose its license to serve alcohol. (Bible thumping
prohibitionists still have excessive control over the nature of the laws
of our land).
Apparent fact: Hunters seems to have selected our community for the ID
checks, and will not accept an ID that does not have a picture of us "as
we appear at the door". On the other hand, "we" are about the only ones
who often appear as a different person than our ID picture shows.
Is Hunters "discriminating"? A case could be made for that, but it would
be a weak one, but it certainly feels like discrimination. They are
basically just within Illinois State law.......they're not fools.
My closing remarks on this? It really is advisable to have a valid
official ID that has "your" picture on it. Not just for access to a bar,
but in case of any situation where you might have to verify who you are.
