Hi!
If I can attend, this will be my first Pinkfest AND if it's a fraction as exciting as DLV, it's sure to be a great time!
As my calendar stands, the dates look good to me, but it's a bit early for me to commit 100%.
As far as activities go, I wish I could provide some input, but I'm a bit clueless since I've never been to Pinkfest nor to Chicago.
I'll keep watching for the updates!

Making plans for Pinkfest 2004:
Ladies (gentlemen), it's time to get the process moving regarding making
plans for Pinkfest 2004. Even though it's still 4 months away, we do
need to get our plans made so those attending can make their plans.
. . .
I would like to welcome those who just joined the list. We had a number
of the Diva Las Vegas people join recently, and this is most likely the
first Pinkfest communication for that group.
. . .
One major change this year is that I (annie) will not be the one doing
the coordinating and scheduling of the activities for Pinkfest 2004.
Elena has volunteered to take over that duty, and we thank her for
taking this on. I will remain as the mailing list moderator.
. . .
For those who have attended DLV but never Pinkfest, the two have some
similarities and many differences. They are both a vacation as opposed
to a convention. Obviously Pinkfest is in Chicago, not Las Vegas, and in
the fall, not the spring. Pinkfest has been much smaller so far. Last
year's Pinkfest kind of had the feel of DLV 1998. Pinkfest, like DLV,
uses a combination of mainstream and alternative venues, but is more
informal, and more loosely organized.
. . .
Our first job, and everybody has input into this, is to set the
schedule. Not the day-to-day activity schedule, but the overall
timeframe. We should get this taken care of shortly, so we can announce
it via our various channels (Elena plans to distribute flyers at the
upcoming Be-All) and the people who plan to attend can make plans.
Big questions we have to answer shortly are: 1. When? and 2. How long?
To get the process moving, I'm going to suggest the timeframe of
Thursday, October 21 thru Sunday, October 24. I'm running this up the
flagpole to see how many salute it or how many flip it the bird. :)
In particular is there anybody who 100% CANNOT make it during this
timeframe, but plans with 100% CERTAINTY TO ATTEND if it occurs within
another timeframe. If this is the case for you, please speak now or
forever hold ...
A related topic is the length of the event. Personally I thought the
Thursday evening thru Saturday evening (Sunday morning) timeframe worked
fine. Only thing that never seems to work are Sunday morning activities,
such as a farewell breakfast. I've had timing issues with this all three
years.
Anyway, let's hear some chatter from the infield regarding the timeframe
and the length of the event. :)
. . . . .
Another topic on the floor is that of Activities. Elena will be the one
handling that, but everybody is invited to suggest and provide input.
We need to provide Elena with some ideas of what we want to do. From a
personal standpoint, I've enjoyed most of the activities in all years,
in particular the following:
Dinner at Hard Rock Cafe
Hunters Dance Club (except for the trip back) :)
Ed Debevic's
Rudy D. at Gentry downtown
Baton Show Lounge
Dinner at Carson's
Dinner at Ann Sathers
Gentry in Lakeview
That last bar we went to last year (Sidetrack?)
I wouldn't mind doing any of those again, except for "pulling a Margeth"
on the way home from Hunters. :)
If there are any other ideas, please send them in.
One thing I've always wanted to try was the Chicago Chop House for
dinner. I've heard it's expensive but very good. I have heard that their
current chef used to be with Shuckers (now closed) where we ate for
Pinkfest 2001.
Anyway, let's get the discussion going on Pinkfest 2004! :)
