Speaking of (somewhat) quieter places, I should mention one of the
places I went by myself last year that was called Gentry on Sate (it is
referred to as the downtown one to distinguish it from the one on
Halsted). It was just a block or two away from the Baton and a couple
of blocks from my hotel (the Hilton Garden Inn at 10 E. Grand Ave). I
walked to these places easily, and as Annie knows, I never walk
anywhere, so they are all very close together.
It's a very nice place with at least 3 different bar areas: one mid-size
area with a piano and singer, another large one with a nice chandelier
hanging from the ceiling, although the rest of the decor was relatively
plain, and a small bar downstairs. So overall, the place is pretty big.
I remember that the coat check closed early (we were there in November
last year, so I wore a light coat that I barely needed because we hit
great weather), so I did have a slight delay when it was time to leave,
but it worked out.
Anyway, Gentry would certainly be a nice place to talk and Baton was
also certainly quiet enough for conversation between shows. I'm sure
that it was Gentry on Halsted that we went to last year on Saturday
after Berlin. Gentry on State is much, much larger than Gentry on Halsted.
Are there other downtown gay places that people know about?
