Org List:

This is the DLV 2014 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

While we are waiting:

We anxiously await (shiver with antici ... ...) the report(s) from the
gang visiting Las Vegas and checking out our potential venues for our
Welcome Celebraiton and other activities.

We do have a few items that warrant some thought and discussion. Please
see items below.

There are a number of items of some significance, so please read this
mailing thoroughly and respond if you have input on any of the topics.
. . . . . . . . . .

Lots of schedule and activity updates for all of you ...

We've "seeded" the working schedule, and a copy will appear at the
bottom of each ORG mailing from now until the big event. The working
schedule actually does appear fuller than it usually does at this stage
of the game since we now have three (KKK, LWG, DAP) recurring activities
this coming year.

Please look over the schedule. Some of the times are SWAGs, many venues
are place-holders, so please update if needed.

For those of you who will be planning activities, please be thinking of
possible timeslots for them.
. . . . .

Beverly writes:

As for volunteering for activities for the event, I am looking forward
to helping with golf, hosting the Closing Celebration at Bahama Breeze,
and co-hosting Katie's Koffee Klutch early morning wake-up gathering.

I will also host dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse dining out option,
early morning hiking/photo trip, and will look for another afternoon
show similar to the magic show we attended last year.
. . . . . . . . . .

Pamela Ann has agreed to again host(ess) the Sunday Metropolitan
Community Church activity and wishes to do some promotion of it for
a greater turnout.
. . . . .

We wish to thank all who have volunteered this early in the cycle!

In other news ...

The resurrected Night Of The Soiled Doves is a "go" for 2014! (They miss
us!) Further details will be coming after plans are finalized. This is
intended to be "simple and reasonable in cost", with some new twists,
plus the facility has been expanded, so there will be no limit on the
number of people who can participate.

Wednesday evening of DLV week has been tentatively chosen as the best
for this activity.

There has been some chatter of pairing this (NSD) with dinner at the
Pahrump Winery, as was once planned but never happened. Should this
happen, Edy will have "first refusal rights" to host(ess) the Pahrump
Winery Dinner.

There may be a need for an additional volunteer to help with NSD, but
that will not me known until the detailed plans for the evening have
been formulated.

Stay tuned for further info on this one.

Hotels and Resort Fees - LAST CALL!

For those who are opposed to resort fees and want to do something about
them, please reach out to hotel sales and management types within the
next list cycle. If you can get a deal where the resort fee will be
waived for our group, a special group rate (which is meaningful) or a
statement that a property will absolutely-positively not have a resort
fee this coming March and April, please let us know.

Last call on this one, gang! :)

Evening-to-evening strategy:

Our plans are to have two evenings reserved for single-track maximum
attendance gatherings. Those are Monday and Friday, unless something
major arises.

We also want to have two "anchor" evenings, each focused around a
medium-large activity with optional alternate-track supporting
activities. Likewise, we want to have two multi-track evenings, one of
which is the slow-start Sunday, and the other will be our traditional
Eating Out Night and Mainstream-Alternative night.

For 2014, we've tentatively decided to give the Limo Tour a year's
"rest", and let the revived Night Of The Soiled Doves and the expanded
Erotic Heritage Museum activity occupy the two "anchor" evenings.

"Dibs" has been called on Wednesday for NSD, mainly due to that evening
working best for the facility.

We do not want to go with three "anchor" eveings, since that would push
out our long-standing Eating Out Night and Mainstream-Alternative Night,
which is set aside for smaller dining and postprandial activities, as
well as the "do your own thing" option for both.

We already have volunteers for (at least) two strong dining options for
Eating Out Night.

This (more potential activities than we have timeslots) is actually a
Very Good Thing<tm>! If this trend continues, we can most definitely
seriously consider expanding the event by a day in the near future.

If we go with the plans to give the Limo Tour a rest, we will need some
kind of "show-offy" activity at some time in our program to provide that
kind of experience for those who want it. Possibilities include an
expanded "Audrey Tour", kind of a "Limo Tour without the limos", and/or
a Fremont Street Experience show-off evening.
. . . . .

Marisa and team, please choose either Tuesday or Thursday, at least
tentatively, for the EHM, the one that works better for you. We'll then
designate the other one as our traditional primary multi-track Eating
Out Night and Mainstream-Alternative Night.
. . . . .

Laura T. Assuming these plans fall in place, this kind of precludes the
recent-years tradition of pairing the Trevi Dinner with the Limo Tour.

Since you have first refusal rights on Trevi, it's you call as to what
to do with Trevi this year. We could have Trevi as a smaller dining
option for Eating Out Night or for the beginning Sunday evening, or as a
medium-size thing prior to EHM, or if you want we can give it a year's
rest along with the Limo Tour. Your call.

Name tag comments:

Vera writes:

Dennis and I will be glad to do the name tags again this year if that's
what the group decides on.

I also suggest the largest font possible and forget about putting the
DLV years attended. Maybe the color of the paper stock we print them on
might somehow work to symbolize the years attended. I like name tags for
the same reason expressed by Annie, Bev and JoAnn.
. . . . . . . . . .

Delaney writes:

Just a thought, but I wouldn't mind permanent name tags as an option
(similar to those worn by wait staff in restaurants). They look better
than the paper in a plastic holder tags, and work better with outfits.

For those who would be interested, I would imagine we could get a decent
price based on our group size. Strictly as an option, for those who
would be interested.
. . . . . . . . . .

JoAnn writes:

Just a couple of thoughts...

Having a more permanent name tag as suggested is an additional cost with
probable little future benefit since our group is so agile that the
"cats cannot be herded" into such a permanent name tag. That is my I
say !!!

Thus--- some alternate ideas ... and a welcome to other ideas.... to
make this something fun !!!

(1) I say thanks, and "yes" to Vera and Dennis to do our name tags
again.

(2) To the "holder of the name tag" and the name tag information. Can
we ...............?

(a) Delete the years of attendance because it is a of extra work.

(b) -All the tags are the same color.

(c) How about a lanyard so I do not have to pin into my silk blouse.
Having said that, how about "pink" lanyard for first timers, and
diversity rainbow for repeat attendees?

I would be happy to underwrite the lanyard cost this year. Just a
thought.... Any other ideas are sure welcome !!
. . . . . . . . . .

Dionne (nee' Kandi) writes:

I think nametags would be useful for everyone to get acquainted.

Rather than having a pre-printed nametag, I have business cards being
made @ VistaPrint ($10).I can put one of these cards into a clear
plastic holder to wear at DLV events. Now, what color lanyard can I find?

Does this idea work with your concept?
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

First of all, big thanks to Very and Dennis for volunteering again to do
the name tags! If there's any kind of information you need to do these,
let me know and I will make it happen.

Thanks to JoAnn for volunteering to sponsor lanyards!

My big burning question regarding permanent name tags is who is going to
pay for them? Knowing how our group tends to behave, I foresee few who
would be willing to personally pay for them and likewise few who will do
the necessary hoop-jumping to get one.

We've also had the option and allowed/encouraged those with their own
business or social cards to use them in lieu of the DLV name tag for
some time. I do this myself. I usually have my own card and the DLV tag
facing alternate sides of the tag holder.

> We should consider to "incentivize" name tags. By that I mean
> what can we do for a "positive approach" to get everyone to ...

> What about ... three(3) free drinks at the Opening Event?

Yes, I like the idea!

But, how do we select the lucky winners from all of those who will be
wearing their name tags proudly? I don't know, I'm asking. Beverly? You
did some kind of a thing for the door prize last year. Could something
like what you did be repeated in this context?

I also like the idea of lanyards as an option. I'm sure some will want
them and others will want to clip on their tags, and others will, of
course, prefer to go without any tag. thanks again, JoAnn. :)

Motion on the floor:

This may be considered to be a motion raised by Annie or Ginger (choose
one) and seconded by the other (choose the other). :)

Throughout our history the number of unaccompanied attendees we've seen
who were under 21 at the time can be counted on one hand with fingers
left over. When they have attended, they have never been able to fully
participate, mostly due to the fact that a number of venues which we use
are open only to those 21 and over.

Let's face it. Las Vegas is a "21 and over" town!

We're also aware of at least one case, possibly two, possibly more,
where accompanied minors have consumed alcohol in public at DLV
activities under the supervision of guardian(s), which may be legal
in some states but is definitely illegal in Nevada.

We are raising this motion to specify the minimum age for participation
in Diva Las Vegas as 21.

We wish to be proactive and prevent issues and incidents before they
happen.

What brought this on was an issue at this year's Pinkfest where an
underage (18) individual created some disruption. Had things escalated,
those of age (and of means) in the group could have easily been held
responsible for the goings-on.

[begin motion]
The following standing rule shall be adopted:

No one under the age of 21, unless accompanied by a parent or legal
adult guardian, will be permitted to register for or participate in
any Diva Las Vegas event or activity. Even when accompanied by a parent
or guardian such persons when under 21 years of age_must refrain from
the consumption of any alcoholic beverages, while abiding by all
jurisdictional laws and venue policies concerning venue admission.
[end motion]

The effect on our current and recent attendees will be nil. We've had
a few unaccompanied minors at times over the years, but in checking
the registration database, all of them will now be of age. Those under
30 have been in the low single digits over the last few years.

The floor is now open for discussion on this issue.
