Big Thanks:

First of all, thanks to all DLV volunteers who helped make DLV 2013
all it was! We had a highly successful week with very few issues.

Over the next few weeks we'll be summarizing and wrapping up. We
want to cover any additional DLV 2013 items before we re-do the
ORG mailing list and begin the yearly administrivie and the
preliminaries for DLV 2014.

Please look over the items below and respond as needed. We have a
few requests for information.

JoAnn Sez:

All of the important things went well. This is significant
accomplishment!!

It only happens when you have great volunteers, and outstanding
participants. A formula for fun and success.

So hugs and appreciations all around. Sit back and enjoy the memories.

Annie sez:

As I mentioned on the Discussion Forum, the biggest issue I heard of
was the price of drinks at one of our venues. If that is indeed the
biggest problem of DLV 2013, I would say that we had a successful
event overall!

In my far from humble opinion, DLV 2013 was the smoothest and most
harmonious event we've had for some time! I want to personally thank
all for making it so. :)

I heard of no traumatic restroom incidents, no drama scenes, no
injuries, no harrassment by locals or tourists, no fights, nothing
like that at all.

There were no complaints about the weather. It was cool and breezy
a few days, but mostly nice.

We did have one person go missing on the Limo Tour. I hope she found
her way back to civilization. :)

I received maybe 1-2 phone calls per day. Mostly calls confirming
things such as locations and times.

I did miss a few calls, and tried to return them discreetly as soon
as I could. Las Vegas is simply too noisy to be able to hear even
the loudest cell phone ringer, and lacking the ability to attach some
kind of bull-fiddle klaxon horn onto the phone, I don't think there
is too much that can be done about that.

We did have one individual who wrote in, stating to the effect that
she had driven in, gone to Harrah's, found nobody there, then turned
around and drove back home. I don't know what to do about things like
this. :(

There were incidental reports of people having trouble finding the
group at Margarataville, Artisan, PF Chang, Fremont Street, and
Cosmopolitan, possibly others. One lesson learned from this is that
we need to be VERY explicit as to where to meet the group.

We had a few new activities which were clear winners! Of particular
mention were Pole Dancing and the Scavenger Hunt. We had some new
twists such as the entertainment at EHM which kept that freah.

Overall it was a well-enjoyed and highly successful week!
. . . . .

Now, as to numbers ...

As of this minute and second, the confirmed headcount stands at 163,
with 134 primary registered attendees and 29 SOs.

Straggler reports trickle in, and I'm sure we'll be in the high 160s
when all are accounted for. We always seem to get a number of
straggler reports when they don't receive a photo staging link. :)

We're probably not within striking distance of a record this year,
(record was 179) but we had a very respectable turnout and an increase
from 2012.

Although not as bad as last year, we still had a very significant
fall-out rate, referring to those who registered, signed up for
activities, and gave every indication that they were coming but did
not show. This is something that, unfortunately due to the nature
of our event, we have to put up with.

Once again, with feeling ...

If you're on this list, please let us know for sure if you did or
did not actually participate in this year's DLV. If you didn't, you

Activity follow-ups:

We would like to ask all who coordinated activities to please
submit a brief summary of how things went. Just hit the high
spots, covering any significant happenings, issues, lessons
learned, etc.

I (Annie) will start this off with the following on those activities
I was involved with.

Sunday, April 14:
4:00pm: Newcomer Open House (Artisan) - ms

I'm covering all three NOH sessions here. This is an evolving
activity and I do think it's worthwhile. The venue for this was
somewhat off of the beaten path so I think that impacted our
turnout on Sunday and Tuesday. These were very low key with no
formal "program", and appeared to be well-received by those who
participated.

6:00pm: Sin City Happy Hour (Flamingo) - ms

Low turnout! Complaints about drink prices from those who showed.
Lesson learned. :( In 2010 this was very successful, however.

7:00pm: Flamingo Buffet option (Flamingo) - ms

Despite the slow start at Happy Hour, this was well-attended and I
heard no complaints.

9:00pm: Mainstream Common Gathering (Margaritaville) - ms

One lesson learned this year is to always specify explicitly the
exact location in the venue to meet. We were scattered all over the
place, as we were last year. We had some folks at the bar, some on
the floor, and later I learned that we had another group upstairs.

Although we had a fair showing, I suspect that the reputation of
last year's fiasco impacted the turnout.

Tuesday, April 16:
6:00pm: Hard Rock Happy Hour (Hard Rock Cafe HARMON) - ms
7:00pm: Hard Rock dining option (Hard Rock Cafe HARMON) - ms

Great showing, great food and great service. I heard no complaints!

9:00pm: Pub Crawl (Start at Buffalo) - sv

Total bomb! :( We had two vehicles head off from Hard Rock in the
direction of The Buffalo, but only one arrived. One of our folks
observed the other car zoom past Freezone and off into oblivion.
It broke up early. :( This activity may have run its course. Again,
the issues last year may have impacted this year's turnout.

Thursday, April 18:
9:30pm: Limousine Tour (Caesars Palace) - ms

We had a somewhat higher than expected fall-out rate this year,
meaning those who signed up but did not follow through. We cleared
quite a few standbys and reduced the number of limos from 7 to 6,
which is really no big deal. Big issue was that we had one person
go missing on Fremont Street. JoAnn did do as much of a search as
was possible, but unfortunately the individual never showed up at
the pick-up location. :( Overall, I think everyone had a great time.

Friday, April 19:
     1:00am: Non-Charles Bar (Cosmopolitan) - ms

Again, we were spread out all over the place, which actually could
be a Good Thing<tm>. :) Later I learned that we had a few more up
on the second level. Again, we need to be more explicit in exactly
where to meet.

8:30pm: Official Group Photo (Bahama Breeze) - mv

Big thanks to Laura for being the primary photographer on this! We
did have the expected reluctance to gwr up and pose, but things went
smoothly and I think we'll have some great shots.

That's the Readers Digest version of what I was involved with. :)

Follow-up surveys:

We would like to get as many responses to our follow-up surveys this
year. Please take one of the surveys if you have not done so already.

You can take the Attendee Survey by clicking here:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/2013survey.html

This year we're also asking those who DID NOT attend to please take
our very brief Non-Attendee Survey, on line here:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/2013nasur.html

Thanks to all for very valuable feedback!
