Thanks, gang:
Thanks to all who responded regarding proposed activities!
I think we have a very good start on this coming year's
event, thanks to everyone's enthusiasm and input!
This mailing contains a lot of material on a number of
items, including an "in the loop" report from Suzane
on the Welcome Celebration.
. . . . .
As previously discussed, most people here on this list
can expect a test re-registration e-mail within the
next few days. If you don't receive this, don't panic.
Instructions as to how to re-register without the e-mail
will be sent out in a subsequent mailing shortly.
. . . . .
As of this morning the polls are still open for our hotel
vote. If you have not voted, it's not too late.

Pity-Formal motion:
Kat writes:
>I second the pity party and formal
Thanks, Kat.
The motion has been seconded. Discussion is open.
For the time being, let's limit the discussion to the
specific activity proposal named in the motion, and hold
any discussion on alternative "formal" activities until
the recently-seconded motion carries or fails.
To move things along, we'll hold the floor open until no
new talking points are introduced within a 48 hour period,
then we'll summarize and call for votes.
Further discussion, please. :)

M Resort:
Tracy writes:
>>M Resort? Are you still interested in host(ess)ing this?
>Wow I didn't know I had the option still and YES I would
>love to set something up at the M.
Yes, since you were the first one who mentioned this, you
have "right of first refusal" to coordinate it. :)
>A dinner/social gathering in this super nice and friendly
>place would be something I will do my best along with
>local friends to put it together ASAP if I have a green
>light for arainging this event for DLV 2010
Thanks, Tracy.
Yes, you have the "Green Light" to put things together
for this activity, subject to the final approval of the
gang here, of course. Please go ahead and make plans
toward it.
Now, if you or anyone is unclear about what you can and
cannot do on your own without an explicit "green light"
from the group here ...
Please feel free to make tentative plans for about
anything within reason. Contact vendors if you wish
and feel free to discuss tentative plans with them.
Just be aware that we have no "front money" that can
be used to secure facilities, and please do not
verbally guarantee any level of attendance or any
purchase level of food or beverages.
You, as the primary coordinator of record, are totally
in charge of, and responsible for your activity. You
have quite a bit of liberty there.
One thing you might want to familiarize yourself with
are the guidelines for organizers contained in our
big 2003 BDR "Cpolicy" document. These are guidelines
and not mandates, but should be followed unless there
is a compelling reason not to do so. It's on the web
at:
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/administ/cpolicy.html
For most activities, there's really very little
formality involved. We voted on the HRC thing and
we'll vote on the Pity-Formal since these are to be
maximum-attendance single-track items, and there
was no consensus on either of them.
The ORG group here does have the final say on what
activities go on our schedule and when. With things
other than the very largest, there's usually no major
disagreement or contention. I would strongly suggest
picking a timeslot now while you do have several
options.
As to what timeslots I might suggest, for a smaller
affair, it would work well as a HH/Dinner/Social on
Tuesday, covering the entire evening in one venue.
For this being the first year the M Resort will be
done, I might suggest this as the most appropriate
timeslot.
Another timeslot that may work well is for the same
type of HH/Dinner/Social as a third-track option against
the Limo Tour and QEAH on Wednesday. It would work as a
less-expensive and less-fancy (than Trevi and LT)
mainstream option in that timeslot as well.
It could also be a similar HH/Dinner/Social thing in
town (well, sorta) opposite Night Of The Soiled Doves
on Thursday. We are going to need a general-interest
local option on Thursday and this might work well.
Another timeslot which we have not discussed much which
may work for this is Sunday evening.
Anyway, let us know your preferred timeslot(s).

Frank Marino Show:
Kate writes:
Hi.
>Absolutely yes to the Frank Marino show.
>I would like to do some shows while I am in town and this
>is a nice easy one for most levels of competency. I suspect
>it might become a staple in the future as his old show used
>to be. great idea.
Thanks, Kate.
Unless the very tentative plans change, this will end up
being our "affordable show" on Tuesday.
Nora, any decision on if this will be Tuesday or on another
day?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Theater Night and SBS:
Ginger writes:
>Theater Night? Will you be doing Viva Elvis for this?
>SBS Social? Any timeslot preferences? Maybe even Sunday?
>I will be happy to host the {above} activities.
Thanks, Ginger.
Although the Viva Elvis showtime is 9:30, I'm putting it
on the schedule at 9:00pm for a suggested arrival time.
"Sign-up requested, separate ticket purchase required",
unless you specify otherwise.
>I'm not so sure about Sunday for a SBS social though. Let
>me see what my prospects are of being in town on Sunday
>given the limitations imposed on me by my travel companion.
No problem. The Sunday suggestion was on my part, just
thinking out loud that it may be a good fit, since we
don't have anything around lunch time that day.

Jam session and such:
Susan Rogers writes:
>I do plan on having a jam session this year.
>I'm waiting to see how everything else falls into place.
Thanks, Susan. Please let us know when you have a tentative
timeslot selected.
>It worked ok at Glamour Boutique last year. But having the
>dinner theatre, the pity party and the jam session on the
>same day was not fair to Amy and the other employees.
>It's my understanding that Amy is involved with NSD and the
>Limo Tour. That would eliminate using Glamour Boutique on
>Wednesday or Thursday.
It's my understanding that yes, Glamour Boutique will be
sponsoring NSD again this year.
The specific involvement of Glamour Boutique in the Limo
Tour has yet to be determined. We do plan on using GB for
the payments as offered. Anything else is still up in the
air. However, unless circumstances drastically change,
we will not be "outsourcing" the Limo Tour in entirity
to GB nor to another vendor.
>Monday is out. Nobody is going to want to miss our opening
>at HRC. Thanks Suzanne. That should be a great party.
Agree on both parts! :)
>I'll talk with Amy about following the dinner theatre. But
>that will depend on length and timing. If I can find another
>venue for Tuesday or Wednesday we might be able to coax the
>Pub Crawl or Limo Tour to make a stop.
If you have it in a Zodies type of place, I think it would
work well as a Pub Crawl stop. As for a Limo Tour stop, the
feeling this year is that the group wants larger mainstream
stops, to see and be seen, so we'll probably avoid any
smaller or "safe" places on the LT.
>I'd prefer a stand alone but it could work along with one
>other event. The pity party, the dinner theatre or even a
>dinner.
>Also the past 2 years people have been asking if it could
>be plugged in.
>I'd welcome any input.
Any input?
For a plugged-in jam, I would think you would insist on
either a "line level" or a "balanced" input. :) :) :)
Seriously, though, please let us know the plans as they
develop. :)

HRC Welcome report:
This report consists of a couple copies of correspondence
to others, copied to us to keep us in the loop.
I think Suzane has a good start.
Comments are welcome from all.
. . . . .
Suzane writes (first-person, no quoting):
Dear Ladies,
Good evening.
First off I want to thank you all VERY MUCH for your
friendship and support! I am sending this e-mail out
as an update on what is and had transpired in regards
to the 2010 Diva Las Vegas "Vacation".
Just so everyone understands who is who; and what is
going on I will be sending an update e-mail out to
those listed above whenever I have something that I
need or want additional opinion and in put on. I know
Brenda, Michelle, Serina, Vivian, Candy and Ruth from
the Diva Las Vegas and other events that I have attended
in Las Vegas since I first "Came Out" in Public last
December.
(Please Remember like many of you I am still leading
TWO Lives and that none of my Family or work
relationships are aware of Suzane; and at this point
that is how it will have to stay; my coming out was
just out as in going out in public.)
I know Katie, Kristy, and Staci from around home
and I consider you all to be very CLOSE PERSONAL
Friends. The last girl on this list is also from Diva
and she is one of the ladies that voted YES so we have
this opportunity. I am sure that statement leads you to
say or think "Well why AM I getting these e-mails? The
answer is I consider you my friends and as such I "Trust"
all of you with my Identity which is my life.
After last May which was my "First" Diva I decided that
should do everything possible to make the event BETTER.
Better for all of us GIRLS who need to get out and be
ourselves. To that end as most of you know I volunteered
to be the "host" of a lunch or dinner for the group.
Well as it turns out the "Blue Ox" which has been the
"Host Location" for the Monday Meet and Greet dinner
event for more than few years has unfortunately come
upon "Hard Times" and has closed. That has opened up an
opportunity for me (and hopefully some of you) to do our
best to "Create and Run" the BEST EVER Diva dinner event.
That is a Big order to fill; but I believe we can
accomplish that task and make this April 19, 2010
the Best Attended, Well Run, informative, and SATISFYING"
event and dinner of all time. I will be handling the
"Legal, Technical, and Monetary" arrangements. All I ask
is that you all consider coming out to Las Vegas even for
a few days during this year's Diva. I guarantee that you
will meet a more than a few ladies that will become new
friends. You may also meet some "old friends" that you
can get re acquainted with. There is something for everyone
to do and Since I am responsible for the "First" gathering
of all attendees I certainly would like to see my friends
in attendance. I also need to have any opinion or ideas
that you may have as to how we can make this the BEST event
Ever for all of us ladies.
Below is the latest e-mail to the Operations people at the
Hard Rock Las Vegas STRIP Cafe. I have attempted to lay out
my requirements and also list the things we need to be able
to do in order to make this successful. I will be putting
my money on the line to pull this off so any assistance
will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you all for you time I will look forward to working
together with those of you that have the time and interest
to assist me in making this a Great Event and a Night to
remember! I also understand that we are all living "TWO
LIVES" and that in and of itself is a very difficult thing
to do. So if you do not want to receive any of these e-mail
updates please just send me an e-mail telling me and I will
take you off the list. This does not in any way affect our
friendship or what I think of you. I just do not want anyone
to feel trapped or that they are stuck in this because they
know me, anyone can opt out at any time.
In Closing I wish each and every one of you a Happy
Thanksgiving and Holiday Season . Stay Safe, be Happy
and be yourself whenever possible! Remember life is a
Journey, Not a destination. Life is NOT measured by the
number of breaths you take , but instead by the number of
times your breath is taken away! I hope that this event
and our time together can be one of those times!
Your Friend and East Coast Sister,
Suzane Oliva
. . . . . . . . . .
Dear Mr. Peter Lin and Cristina Baumann,
Good morning. I hope that you both have had a great Thanksgiving
Holiday. I have had a couple of communications with Lacey Hillis who is
a great lady and terrific manager. It is people like Lacey Hillis and
Leonard Robles that are responsible for this conversation and having me
work to get this event held at your facility. Good food and drinks can
be purchased anywhere, and Vegas has more than a few viable choices and
venues; BUT Extraordinary SERVICE, Kindness, and Acceptance is not
always available!
As I understand it both you and Cristina will be working with me to set
this event up and ensure that it runs smoothly. As I stated in my
previous e-mail the organizers for the Diva Las Vegas 2010 event have
went through the Democratic - Parliamentary Procedures required by our
organization to have the Hard Rock Cafe set up as the "Lead Off Dinner &
BIG Event Get Together" for our April Vacation in Las Vegas. The Diva
Las Vegas "Vacation" starts on Sunday April 18, 2009 and runs through
Friday April 23, 2010. The vote was OVERWHEMINGELY in favor of using the
Hard Rock Strip Location as our venue. Below is the current time and
event schedule as I and the group envision it.
This is only the Monday calendar section that applies to the Hard Rock
Cafe. If anyone is interested in viewing the whole event calendar for
the week or learning more about the Diva Las Vegas "Vacation" event you
can go to the following web site: http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/
Monday, April 19:
10:30am: Makeover Tips with Stacey (Bare Escentuals) - mv
1:00pm: Lunch With Ginger (TBA) - ms
3:00pm: Beginner Open House (See notes) - sv
6:00pm: Happy Hour (Hard Rock Cafe Strip) - mv
7:00pm: Dinner (Hard Rock Cafe Strip) - mv
8:00pm: Welcome Meet and Greet (Hard Rock Cafe Strip) - mv
Please note I will be responsible for the contractual agreements and
setting up, running, coordination, and closing of this event. All
communication and details will be run through me at this e-mail address.
This is a very BIG DEAL for me and the organization.
Our main goal is to get MAXIMUM possible attendance from our people for
this event. This is the First event of the week where we anticipate
having the entire group together in ONE Location at the same time. For
Diva the Opening and Closing get together events are the only two events
and locations where we attempt to have everyone attend.
The event begins with our "Happy Hour" and then moves to dinner as
people arrive and become "Hungry". Then after dinner it is a
"Socializing" event where people have an opportunity to talk with
friends new and old from all over the country and in many cases from
around the World.
So in order to allow for conversations and interaction I would like to
have the ability to "Control" the music sound "Volume" on the third
floor while our event is in progress. At this time it is my HOPE to have
some type of DJ or other music latter in the evening (after 10:00 pm) so
those that are interested can dance. So please let me know what problems
or costs would be involved with attempting to allow or have dancing
latter in the evening.
What I need now is to get everything set up and CONFIRMED with the Hard
Rock Las Vegas.
I want to have as many details as possible "Ironed Out" and agreed to as
soon as possible. Below are the MAJOR Points we have to address FIRST.
1. This event is to be held on the "Third Floor" as a "Private Event".
Our "Requested" time table is listed above. We can adjust if we have to
but I would prefer to go with these times if at all possible. I also
need to know the "Close out Time" for the event
2. We have by e-mail discussed various "Meal" options" As I have stated
previously this is a very "Diverse" group of ladies. We would like to if
at all possible order off the standard Hard Rock menu. We would prefer
to have a sit down dinner and have tables waited on.
I do NOT expect to have everyone ready to eat at once or finish at once.
I anticipate that we will have people beginning to "trickle" in at the
6:00 pm starting time so I want to have all arrangements made and the
room ready 15 minutes ahead of the 6:00 pm Start time for the "Happy
Hour". I honestly believe that this "flexible" dinner start will allow
for the kitchen to be better able to prepare the meals and not have a
big impact on the "Normal" second floor dinner business. Also I am sure
that Monday nights in April are not typically "good" or "Busy" nights so
everyone from management through the staff should be better off having
an event to "Make Some Money" at.
3. The "Girls" and their Significant Others will be split about 2/3 -
1/3. By that I mean that 2/3 will drink "Well Drinks" at the bar and 1/3
will utilize "Higher" quality "Spirits and Wines".
I believe that HR (Hard Rock) can sell quite a few "Souvenir Glasses
during this event. I also know that this event can lead to "Significant"
business at OTHER Hard Rock locations. "Why do I make that statement"
you might ask; well the answer is very simple.
There will be Girls present from all over the world at this event; and
they are ALL looking for TG/TS Friendly Venues to go to both here in the
USA and also around the world. The Hard Rock Cafe has during all of my
visits around the U.S. and also in India and Europe come across as a
friendly and safe venue! That is why I am Pushing and promoting this
event and the Hard Rock. If someone was thinking ahead I would be
willing to believe that the Native American Ownership would see this as
a good Marketing opportunity to promote "Diversity" and the Hard Rock
Motto "Love ALL Serve ALL"! Something to think about.
4. I believe that many people will be interested in ordering
"Appetizers" during the Happy Hour. Dinner PREFFABLY from the menu will
most likely be started between 6:30 and 7:00 pm.
Because this is foremost a Meet and Greet - SOCIAL time for our
organization we would like to have table and chairs available for
everyone to "Sit" down as needed. Tables "Connected" or set for groups
of four, eight and ten will most likely work best for the "operations
and order taking". For the dinner we would like to have sit down
service and just so that the Hard Rock Cafe is aware each individual is
responsible for their own FOOD and Liquor Bill / Check. Neither me or
the organization will be paying for any meals or drinks.
5. I want to get an early "E-Mail" event letter out to our entire
group. In order for this to "Carry Weight" and for things to be accurate
I need information and assistance from you and the Hard Rock on the
Strip.
a. We need to get the contract language taken care of and agreed to.
b. I need to know about the meals - and appetizers - and drinks. I would
prefer to have a "Cost range" for drinks and meals so that I can get
everyone UP FOR this event. I do not want to have or use a special menu
- Just offer a "range" so everyone can Budget for the event.
c. Is it possible to get approval from someone to allow me to have the
Hard Rock Vegas Strip Picture from the bottom of your e-mails place on
the emails I send out on / for this event ONLY?
d. I understand the $ 1,000.00 "Opening Fee" for the use of the Third
Floor location. I am willing to take care of that; but I was wondering.
Most other venues that I have dealt with for various business events
involving "group" dinners have always had a "Facility" charge such as
your $ 1,000.00 BUT at some point in the "Evening / Event" after a
certain number of meals / drinks or in some cases Dollars were purchase
or spent. The $ 1,000.00 was reduced and in all cases after a certain
point in Sales for the event had been reached the charge was completely
removed. This was of course when the "Facility" had covered the required
costs and made money. These cost levels have always varied by Location
and Venue BUT there has always been some type of program offered. Does
the Hard Rock have any established program like this?
6. At this point I expect that we will have around 80 to 100 people that
will order dinner. I expect that we will have around 20 to 30 people
that will only have drinks and maybe order some appetizers. The total
attendance for the night is anticipated to be 90 to 120 people.
7. The Entrance first floor and second floor. I would like to have some
type of "Sign" that announces our event and also marks it as a "Private"
Event. I assume that hard Rock can provide the "Easel" to hold the sign
See attached picture. I would be responsible to have the sign made up
and supplied for the event. Is this acceptable? I would also like to
have a few our members stand at the front door or near the "Elevator'
and at the Second floor "Entrance Stairs" to assist some of our more
"reserved and "Shy" members. Would this present any problems for you or
your staff?
This event is VERY important to our Group and to me PERSONALLY. I will
be looking forward to your detailed response so we can get this event
booked. Please call or e-mail me with any additional questions or
concerns. Thank you for your assistance and attention to these matters.
Your East Coast Sister,
Suzane Oliva
