Org List:

This is the DLV 2010 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

This mailing:

First of all, a housekeeping item. It may sound trivial,
but it is very important.

If you ever send in anything to this ORG list and do not
see it come back in an ORG mailing, or at least some kind
of a reference to it, something is wrong and it needs to
be investigated.

If this should happen to you, please resend your item
with a note that you think it may have fallen into a
black hole.

E-mail technology is not perfect, nor are humans.
. . . . .

This mailing covers everything other than the big
still-outstanding proposal for the Welcome Celebration.

Just as we do owe Suzane a timely preliminary answer
on the Welcome Celebration, we also owe Amy (and Nora)
a timely preliminary answer on the proposal for the
combined Pity Party and formal affair on the final
evening.

We have some more prom-type thoughts here, but nothing
definite.

I would like to steer the focus of the Prom/Formal
discussion to the one solid proposal we have, from Amy,
via Nora, of a final evening with a combined Pity
Party/Prom theme at the Italian-American Club.

Big Burning Question:

Is this what we want to do for our final evening?

Yes?
No?
YesBut?

Comments?

Hotels:

Our "Hotel Scoreboard" now sits as follows:

Sahara: Nominated, seconded.
Paris: Nominated, pending second.

Let's plan for a Call For Votes (yes/no on each nominated
and seconded hotel) on or about November 22.
. . . . .

Holly writes:

>Now as to hotel nominations, I will break the ice and
>nominate the Sahara as one of the recommended hotels for
>Dive 2010.
. . .

Mary Beth writes:

>I would like to once again nominate the Sahara, BUT, as of

. . .

.. and Kat writes:

>a hotel for us (budgeting folks) the Sahara will always
>win they are nice the staff is great and they remember
>both the fem and male versions of my SO.
. . . . .

Thanks Holly, MB, Kat. :)

Ok, we have one solid nomination for the Sahara, one
nomination with a "but", and one suggestion which does
not use the term "nominate".

To answer MB's concern, the reservations page of the Sahara
web site has a "See next 6 months" link, which does bring
up April. Current rates for DLV week are $40 weekdays and
$80 weekends, very reasonable, IMAO.

In any case, if there is any question that the above items
do not constitute a valid second, I will second the Sahara
and we can now consider Sahara as nominated and seconded.
. . .

I would also like to place the Paris in nomination.

Why?

Because it's there. :)

Seriously, it's avowedly GLBT-friendly and sufficiently
upscale in that it will provide an upmarket balance to
the Sahara.

Do we hear a second for the Paris?

Any other hotel nominations?

The Formal/Prom proposal:

Here are my thoughts on the current proposal.

To review:

It is my understanding that what Amy and Nora are proposing
is a combined Pity Party and Formal/Prom, held on the
final evening (Friday) of DLV 2010, and intended as the
featured activity of the evening and the main "Ending Bash"
of DLV 2010.

Nora, if this is incorrect in any way, please say so.

To avoid confusing this specific proposal with any of the
various other suggestions, here are the high spots of Nora's
submissions:

n>I spoke to Amy about her willingness to hold a similar
n>event for the DLV. Without hesitation she expressed
n>willingness. ...

n>Amy feels that the Formal would go best coupled with the
n>Pity Party / Talent show at the Italian American club.

n>There will be a DJ who can supply the necessary music and
n>accompaniment that will be needed for both.

n>She does need this to be confirmed on the agenda so she
n>can work out the details with the Italian American club
n>operators. I tend to agree with her as we have done the
n>Bahama Breeze numerous times and it may be time to change
n>to a new venue.

This would, should we choose to accept it, replace the
long-running Bahama Breeze ending dinner.

We have within this mailing two "Yes" responses in so
many words, and one "YesBut" in so many words. Nobody
so far as spoken against the idea.

We need to either give Nora/Amy the go-ahead as planned,
a provisional go-ahead with requested modifications, or
decline to accept the proposal.

I have two concerns of some sigificance, mainly with
adopting the idea as proposed, as a maximum-turnout
activity. Those are:

1. Prepayment.

Nora also states:

n>I would think that advance payment would also be required.

If this is a mandatory-prepayment activity, with no option
to pay at the door or pay in person during DLV, the response
rate will be such that it cannot qualify as a maximum-attendance
activity. The behavior of the masses over the past 13 years
clearly indicates that this will be the case.

Therefore, if we do adopt the Prom/Formal/PityParty as our
"ending bash", we need some payment option other than the
prepayment prior to DLV.

I'm also concerned about the price point. If it's $50-60-ish,
I think too many people will skip it simply due to the cost.
One idea which may somewhat mitigate this concern is for the
dinner portion to be optional.
. . .

2. Is it sufficiently mainstream?

I address this question primarily to the "mainstream
aficianados" of our group here. I'm sure you know who
you are.

This activity, if done as proposed, will be in a rented
hall (Italian-American Club) with a catered meal. Is this
something you would be tempted to skip, even it if was
presented as a maximum-turnout function, primarily because
it is sequestered, and not in the mainstream?

To all: Would you be tempted to skip it for any other
reason, such as the price point or lack of appeal?

We need comments and feedback on these points, please!
. . . . .

I'm hoping to work toward an answer to Amy/Nora within the
next few list cycles, along the lines of one of the following:

1. Yes, this is what we want to do for our feature activity
on the final evening.

2. Yes, we want to do it, but not as a featured maximum
attendance activity.

3. YesBut, we want a few things different.

4. No, we want to go down a different path.

Studio Lites:

Mardi writes:

>Studio Lites can do April 18 on Sunday at 2:00 pm.

Thanks, Mardi. I'll get this on the schedule. :)

>Chris plans to do wig and makeover demos.

I think this fits very well with our previously-discussed
emphasis area on personal improvement. I'm sure this will
help improve turnout at this activity. This also will hit
those who need the services toward the beginning of the
event.

Golf:

Mardi writes:

>Mardi would like golf to be on Tuesday

Thanks, Mardi. I'll get this on the schedule, using the
times for previous years to start with.

If you (or Mindy) want(s) to change this, please let me
know.

Also, as we get closer to the event, please be thinking of
clarifying the exact timing of the start-up of the golf
activity, meaning suggested arrival time, range practice
time, and actual tee-off time. We had some comments on the
lack of such details in feedback last year.

>Mardi would pay Mindy and have Mindy talk to the management
>of the course about us.

Uh??? Not exactly sure what you mean there, but I'm sure
that you and Mindy can work out the details. If you need
any more assistance, please let us know.

Murder Mystery:

Mardi writes:

>Tuesday nite would be good for MM.

Agree, and that's what Holly has tentatively selected for
the timeslot:

+Tuesday, April 20:
+ 7:00pm: Murder Mystery Interactive Theater (tba) - sv
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Prom and combination activities:

Holly writes (first-person, no quoting):

<Begin: Tongue-in-Cheek>

We could combine some activities We could call it Diva
In a Day.

Immediately following church, the limos pick us up
and take us to the shooting range where we expend two
clips of ammo from our weapon of choice. Back into the
limos and off to the Chicken Ranch. En route we partake
of Lunch with Ginger utilizing sack lunches that have been
previously prepared.

Upon arrival at the CR, we spend precisely 1 hour, 18
minutes at the facility, visiting with the girls and
some "surprise" activities. Return to the limos for the
trip back to LV. On the way back, the Murder Mystery
plays out. This year's theme, "Who Killed the Limo Driver?"

(Note- need to arrange stand-by driver). Once back in LV,
limos stop for photo ops at LV Visitor Center, a road
construction site, and the former site of the Elvis Lounge.

Limos then drop passengers off for Welcome Meet &
Greet/Dinner (location TBA). At the conclusion of the
M&G/Dinner, passengers board limos for transportation to
Prom site. During ride, participants change into formal
wear (this will be a wonderful social opportunity to
really get to know your fellow DLVer's) and apply formal
make-up (perhaps Stacy can join us for this leg of the
journey for Makeover Tips).

At prom site there is a punch bowl with spiked punch
(this is in lieu of the Pub Crawl) surrounded by cookies.
At precisely midnight, DJ plays "Moon River" by Andy
Williams and all in attendance must dance as this will be
the final song of the evening. Dreamy eyed, everyone
reboards the limos for the trip back to the church to pick
up our vehicles.

Since we were not able to work in the Big Show/Affordable
Show options into the day, perhaps the driver can play a
short subject DVD on the limo's video system as a
substitute). It is understood that there would be an
increased cost to have the limos for such an extended
period of time, but this should be more than offset reduced
need for hotel accommodations.

<End: T-I-C>
. . . . . . . . . .

Okay, now seriously... I like Nora's (and Amy's) concept
for the prom/formal function. I like the idea of the dinner
being included and here is why... While it is true that
most prom goers have dinner before arriving at the function,
as a young person, the whole point is to be seen and be seen
in an adult light. Many of our newer girls are just not ready
to make such a public statement about their CDing.

For those of us who are, there are scads of opportunities to
do so following the event. But if this is to be an event that
is to encourage maximum attendance, then we need to make it
as appealing as possible to our more timid sisters (and
brothers).

Even some of our more seasoned DLVer's may be hesitant to
venture out in a mainstream venue in a sparkly gown and
corsage. Those of us who are more mature (read- old) know
how to go out and make our own fun and good times. But don't
we need to be there for those who are not as far along in
their journey as some of the others?
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Holly.

This appears to be another statement in favor of the
final-evening combined Pity Party and Prom at the
Italian-American Club. If this is incorrect, please
say so.

Yes, if it's to be max-attendance, it must appeal to
our timid sisters (brothers), but it also must appeal
equally to our more gregarious sisters and brothers,
those who *DO* have other options and will indeed use
them if the force field of this event is not strong
enough to attract them to it!

We must also consider our free-wheeling and noncommittal
sisters (and brothers) who will more than likely attend
but will never proactively jump any hoops in order to
do so, and I daresay a good percentage of our people do
fall into this category.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Formal thoughts:

Kathy writes:

>hi I am kathy

>on the low cost an best place to at this time . If one
>thinks there is time to look an think to put this on ? we
>have no time.

>to put a event on takes a year to put a good one on.
>the is a lot things there is a lot things to amy event
>call her an ask.

>as far as the escape they do not have a dj or dancing.
>its a nice place but limited seating. an there is many
times an places to dress an go out an the lunchings an
>event are some them an one can go out any time an have
>fun an enjoy the town.

>am sorry but i live here now an find so many places to
>go even for the closet ones .. kahty

I take it that you are then in favor of the proposal
by Nora/Amy of the combined Pity Party and formal as
the closing max-attendance activity.

Prom thoughts:

Kat writes (first-person, no quoting):

Prom is a great idea but I think eating should be left
up to each person (we did not have food at any of the
7 proms I went to yes I was a popular girl)

We only have punch bowls with a few nuts around them
(food not people),

Now if we out the prom against the limo tour we could
do a pre party and let the walk to the limo occur (those
of us on a budget again really don't do limo or NSD) But
the prom itself should be in the old fashioned sense
(Decorations and other glittery things I would up to
help decorating if needed,) We also need a theme "puttin
on the glitz" was a GREAT idea. Maybe a theme on beauty?
I can't come up with one right this second

After going to Amy's party a couple of weeks ago the
Italian American club is a fine idea but maybe not with
food just some appetizers?

And maybe we should do a king and queen type thing? Or at
least a queen of the prom and maybe a princess? We had a
whole court for ours and the king could be a SO like me?

Not door prizes but an actual vote like a ballot at each
place or when we come in and then a box I would be glad
to count and I am sure I could get a little help if needed.

Wouldn't that impart the flavor of a prom? A homecoming
queen crown or even a homecoming princess crown would be
a great gift don't you think?

Sorry for being so long but well these are the things I
remember and I am a GG. I was never crowned anything
(wrong group no cheerleader or sports star in me) So I
was thinking about how exciting the voting and the final
announcements were and they were even more fun at a prom
that was not at my school. Thoughts ideas feel free to
shoot them down if needed
. . . . .

Thanks, Kat.

Nothing here to shoot down at all.

I'm considering your answer to be in the "YesBut" category,
meaning you believe it would work better without food, or
at least without a sit-down meal as part of the affair.
