Time to vote:

Those of voting status can expect a special ballot mailing
for the primary hotel question to arrive shortly. If you
don't receive this, please let us know.

As a clarification, this is a vote on the designation of
a to-be-named-in-the-future hotel as a "more/most suggested"
or "primary" hotel, yes or no, and does not consider any
specific properties.

We'll now consider Holly's motion for the hotel hostesses
and hotel gatherings to be raised and seconded. Please
continue discussion on this.
. . . . .

As a reminder, the one-month call for comments on the dates
will expire next Tuesday, September 8. By default, the
tentative dates (April 18 - 23) will become final unless
significant objections are heard.

On next Tuesday we'll summarize the comments from the Teeming
Millions regarding the dates and open the floor BRIEFLY at
that time in the event someone wishes to show cause why the
dates should not become final.

Please consider this to be a heads-up to watch your inbox
closely during and immediately after September 8.

Touchstone location:

Thanks, JoAnn.

Comments on this idea, gang?

With the additions of the vendor functions proposed by Kat
and Ginger, we would indeed have five vendor-sponsored
activities, and assuming that these vendors can all agree
to host on different days, these could be rolled into
this plan. That would have all weekdays covered. Since we
will be beginning on a Sunday this coming year, we would
need to arrange for something that day.

Is this something we want to consider?

Thanks, Edy.

Chance meetings and informal hotel get-togethers have been
part of the DLV experience since the early days. Those I
have been most aware of have occurred at the Sahara and the
IP casino bars. Not everyone participates in these, but I
do know cases where others have noticed the groups at the
bars and have joined them.

I've interpreted Holly's proposal to be an extension of
this concept. Set times and locations for things like this.

We do have attendees come and go every day. However ...

For DLV 2009, out of the 125 "show-up" registrations (most
with primary attendee only, some with SO), 93 of these
(vast majority) showed Monday or earlier. All other days
show single-digit arrival numbers except Wednesday, which
was our most popular non-start arrival day.

I really don't think Holly or anyone intends to impose
upon any volunteer to the degree that they cannot freely
attend the DLV activities of their choice.

In re-reading Holly's motion, the idea is for one daily
get-together at a time determined by the hostess, no
mention of any required hours, watchstanding, walk-in
availability, or check-in duty.

I also don't think Holly intends to have any of these
informal gatherings in any way compete for participants
with any of the main-line DLV activities.

I've always viewed the Big Sister program to be a personal
one-on-one peer support arrangement. Holly's program would
offer opportunities for peer support, but on a many-to-one
or many-to-many incidental basis. We have countless cases
of episodic support functions at DLV, not related to the
Big Sister program.
