More summary and follow-up:

Please take a look at the Laundry List below. We still lack
approximate headcounts on several activities. If you were
at any of them, please send in a headcount, if even a rough
guess.
. . . . .

147 is our latest headcount. The trickle has slowed to a drip,
but I do expect that we'll get a few more when they realize
they aren't able to view the photo staging area. :)

Speaking of photos, thanks to all who have sent in their
photos. Keep them coming, please. We're on target to open
the photo staging area on the 15th.

The summary general mailing is scheduled to to out this weekend.
. . . . .

Survey continues. Please take this if you have not already:

Clarificarion on volunteering:

If you're one of those on record for coordinating or assisting
with one or more activities over DLV 2008 and DLV 2009, you
don't have to re-volunteer unless you specifically want to.
You will be part of the DLV 2010 ORG team automatically.

What-worked summaries:

Just a few notes on some activities I believe significantly
added to the success of DLV 2009:

Pre-DLV get-together:

The venue, PT's Pub, was probably as good as we could ever
want for something like this. It satisifies the criteria of
being mainstream yet safe.

The staff was friendly, drinks were reasonably-priced, and
the food was good.

I know that some of our people, on their own, went back to
PT's over the course of the week.

I envision PT's, at the Sahara location, to be a good candidate
for use next year.
. . . . .

Welcome Night:

Blue Ox. Again, I don't think we could have done better. The
venue is unquestionably mainstream, yet it's safe enough for
the shyest of beginners.

Our people continuously request large "get to meet everyone"
gatherings, and I believe the one we had this year was the
most effective in our history in realizing that.

Despite the confusion and hassles of working details out,
everything fell into place. The food, while not haute
cuisine by any means, was good.

My observation was that our people were indeed mingling
and circulating.

I think the small(er) size of the Blue Ox worked to our
advantage. "Never rent a hall you can't fill." held true
for us, likewise "never have enough seats for everyone"
encouraged our people to mingle.

As with PT's, I did hear of groups of our people going
back on their own to BO over the course of the week.

As we know, this was our largest headcount (105) at any
single activity in our history!
. . . . .

Trevi:

Trevi is another activity which I think worked out
exceptionally well this year. It's about as mainstream
as you can get.

My big surprise of the evening was that drinks were very
reasonable in price. I had expected upscale prices, but I
was pleasantly surprised.

I don't think I heard a single complaint about the food.

I am glad that they allowed us the full menu. I think that
helped out with overall satisfaction.

>From observing the seating, I think the group was well
mixed. I know at our table we had a good mix of long-time
veterans and those relatively new.

I can envision this one expanding in future years.
. . . . .

Charles Bar:

Although this is way-upscale in price and happens at
0-dark-30, the Charles Bar does seem to draw a consistent
crowd.

This serves the desire for Quality Social Time<tm>, it's
about as Mainstream-with-a-capital-M as you can get, and
at that time of night on a weekday, the crowds will be
down somewhat and it won't be as intimidating for those
who are new to mainstream public.
. . . . .

Night Of The Soiled Doves:

This year we had better participation from the "independent
contractors" at the facility, combined with the new format,
and I think things worked out quite well.

I think we were at capacity this year, with possibly a few
stow-aways in there too.
. . . . .

Ending night:

This was our second most attended activity this year, with
a total headcount of around 80. Registration records did
show somewhat of an exodus on Friday and Saturday, so this
accounts for the lower total in comparison to Monday.

I think the rooms we had this year added to the success
of the evening. There was plenty of room to circulate,
and yes, I observed quite a bit of mingling, although
not as much as on Monday. Yes, some just took a seat at
a table and camped there.

I think having the room far away from the restrooms
makes restroom use less obvious to civilians.

I do have one concern with the BB arrangements, as I have
had for the past few years, and that is that it ends rather
early in the evening for a true "final bash" kind of thing.
We did have some linger after dinner, but the crowd did
thin quite visibly as the dining wrapped up.

We've had attempts at single-track post-BB activities in
the past (Suede/Blyss, Goodtimes), but that involved that
dreaded "move" and associated fallout. In years to come I
would like to try to keep more of the group together for
more of the final evening.

Paree:

Thanks, MB. We'll mark this down as 4.

>I don't think this was a reflection on the Paris per se as
>much as I think most people just preferred to stay at the Blue
>Ox, or just went home after the Blue Ox.

Agreed.

IMAO, the lack of our people at Paris was most likely a side
effect of the success of the goings-on at the Blue Ox.

Pity Party:

Kimberly Komplin writes:

>I did not think to take an official head count, I'm estimating
>that there were between 25 and 30 who were there during the
>Pity Party period.

Let's split the difference and call it 27 1/2. :)

>We are grateful to Amy for the use of the Glamour Boutique
>and other then a few glitches in queuing and starting the
>music at the correct time, and a couple of wardrobe glitches.

>The performances seemed to go well, especially for not having
>any rehearsal time before the show. Thanks go out to all of
>those who participated in the performances and I hope that
>they had a good time doing so.

Thanks, Kimberly. :)

I wasn't there, but I heard things went well and those who
were there had a good time. That's what we want.

Although the Pity Party was intentionally started as a
second-track activity, this year showed that it can
indeed serve on the main track.

And, thanks again to you, Kimberly, for jumping in and
taking charge of this! :)
