Org List:

This is the DLV 2009 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Rounding the turn:

Our two-month mark is creeping up on us.

We've done a great job this year in getting a rich full schedule
of activities planned. I would like to thank all who participated
for making this happen so smoothly this year.

It's now time to fill in the details, tie up a few loose ends,
and get ourselves in DLV mode. :)
. . . . .

Polls remain open on our rule suspension motion. If you are of
voting status and haven't cast your vote, you still have time.

The 48 hour timer is set to expire early evening unless more
votes come in.
. . . . .

General registration opened last weekend.

No big rush happened (or was expected). We did have the same
AOL issue as we saw last year where they were caching the older
page without the newcomer sign-up button.

We now have 139 validated attendees on the roster. Three recent
validations are still outstanding. :( This kind of thing was
expected, as it's been typical of what we see when the wide-
open registration opens.

As I've reported before, things are not as brisk as they were
last year, but they are consistent. We're still three weeks
farther out than we were last year or next to last year, so
it's very difficult to compare apples to apples here.

In looking at the detailed daily projections, we'll have a very
definite peak in total in-town headcount on Wednesday, Thursday,
and Friday.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Laundry list:

As you will see, this one is getting very short (for now, at
least), and I do thank all for helping clear things off of
it! I do have a March 1 do-it list to review, so I'll probably
have some more Laundry items next week.

These are the items that need our attention:

* Power Exchange?

Anybody wanna sponsor this one?

Going once.
. . .

* SO gathering:

Unless we have some input on this, I'm gonna remove it from the
tentative list -- again -- for apparent lack of interest.

Yes, it's possible to throw something like this together at the
last minute and shoehorn it into the schedule, but if this is
done, many of the potential participants will have other plans
and will either not attend, or have to skip something else they
were hoping to do in order to attend.
. . .

* Post-Welcome-Celebration on Monday:

Dancing, clubbing, gaming, a lower-cost show, things like that.

Going once?
. . .

* Dancing on Friday?

Going once?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Activity sign-up:

I would like to see us have a goal of having all activities
which will require a sign-up or headcount solid around the first
of April. That is four weeks from today. This will give us time
to get activity sign-up up and tested prior to turning it loose
on the Teeming Millions.

We're scheduled to start activity sign-up on or about April 15
this year, the latest we've ever done it.

Let's go over the list, looking for items which need a sign-up
or headcount which I don't have here. Also, anything I have on
the list which really should be no-sign-up-just-show-up, we
do need to remove.

As we get a bit closer to rolling out activity sign-up, we will
review capacities, other requirements, etc.

Here are the items I show as needing some kind of a sign-up:

Monday, May 11:
7:00pm: Dinner (Blue Ox) (Sign-up requested)

Tuesday, May 12:
     8:00am: Golf (Sign-up and pre-pay required)

7:00pm: Dicks Last Resort option (Sign-up requested)

     9:00pm: Activity options (various)
9:00pm: Night At The Movies (Sign-up requested for headcount)
     9:00pm: Pajama Party (Sign-up required)
9:00pm: Minus-5 (Mandalay Bay) (Sign-up requested for heacount)
9:30pm: Theater Night (Palazzo) (Sign-up requested)

Wednesday, May 13:
10:00am: Art Tour, morning session (Sign-up requested)

12:00n: Lake Mead Boat Tour (Sign-up requested for headcount)
2:00pm: High Tea (Four Seasons) (Sign-up and pre-pay required)
     7:00pm: Dining options (various)
     7:00pm: Nora's choice (TBA) (TBD)
     7:00pm: Upscale option (Roy's) (Sign-up required)
7:00pm: Murder Mystery interactive option (Required)
11:00pm: Acoustic Jam Session (Sign-up requested)

Saturday, May 16:
7:00pm: Dinner (Bahama Breeze) (Sign-up required)
. . .

Here are the activities I show as needing some special sign-up
other than a "yes I will attend" type of thing:

Tuesday, May 12:
8:00am: Diva Las Vegas Invitational Golf (Desert Rose) - ms
(Preferred golf teammates, special needs. Prepayment required.)

Wednesday, May 13:
9:00pm: Limousine Tour (Caesars) - ms
(Ticket class, preferred riding mates.)

Friday, May 15:
7:00pm: Murder Mystery interactive option (Glamour Boutique)
(Cast positions, etc.)

    11:00pm: Acoustic Jam Session
(Instruments, etc.)

Any additions or corrections?

Art Tour:

JoAnn writes:

(first person, no quoting)

As the "scribe" this message is from the Coordinator (Sarah) and
her Assistant (JoAnn) ---

Here is the proposed schedule and details around the Museum Tour
Event ---

*First*, the Art Tour we agree needs to be scheduled for
Wednesday.

*Second*, the event will be organized as follows, subject to the
various parties agreeing to their roles in the next couple of
weeks. Sarah and JoAnn will be attending and the back-up as
needed for rides etc. We are fortunate to have two new volunteers
this year---- Randy and Marisa. Sarah and I are really pleased
they volunteered:

Schedule------
*10:30am Atomic Testing Museum*
    Hostess: Marisa

Now, Marisa, you have suggested other venues and that is great.
So if you wish to substitute for the Atomic Testing Museum let us
know your other preference and we can discuss how we might
accommodate you.

*12:30 Lunch-- Artisan Hotel*
    Hostesses: Sarah & JoAnn

*2:00pm Bellegio Tour
* Hostess: Randy

The last we heard is Randy has volunteered, and we welcome her.
She has been a great attendee the past several years on the tour
and appreciate her volunteering.

So this is a go. Sarah will be visiting Vegas in the next three
weeks to verify the venues.
. . . . .

Thanks, JoAnn. Let's consider this solid for Wednesday.

Thanks also to Sarah, Marisa, and Randi (who I believe prefers
it to be spelled with a "i", and dots the "i" with a little
circle when writing out her name. :) { ducking, running } :)

Harmony Nail Spa:

Norma writes:

I talked with Paula on the phone a few minutes ago.

As far as she knows this far ahead of time, either Tuesday or
Wednesday, May 12, 13, would be fine for an open house.

I asked about morning/afternoon/evening, and she said they
would be available for an open house for us all day. She also
said Harmony would of course welcome any of us any time during
the week.

So, as far as I can tell right now, the event can be fitted into
the schedule. Tuesday or Wednesday, whichever is more convenient
for us.

She and I will doubless talk some more as the time approaches.
. . . . .

Thanks, Norma.

Both Tuesday and Wednesday have one solid significant daytime
activity, Golf on Tuesday and the Art Tour on Wednesday, so
it's really up to you and Paula what day you want.

I would encourage you to make the day selection sooner rather
than later so if others have daytime things they want to do,
they can plan around it.

Thanks, Mindy and Kimberly.

Before we announce this, we need to have a solid timeslot for it
on the schedule. Then we can post an announcement in the general
mailing asking for acts and such.

Let's discuss timing. ...

Historically, this was the "Big Show Pity Party", and began as
a lower-cost alternative to the $pendy $how du jour which,
until this year, was always scheduled to lead into the Limo
Tour.

This year we have 'divorced' the Limo Tour from any show, so
the timing of the Pity Party does not necessarily have to place
it against the Limo Tour.

At the risk of making an overly broad statement here, I think
there's a possibility for the Pity Party on any of the evenings
except Monday and Saturday.

Tuesday is the main multi-track evening. We have a number of
various things that night, but none of them are going to draw
a large crowd. Pity Party could fit Tuesday as an option.

Wednesday evening would be a good fit, but if you want to do
the Limo Tour, that's out. I'm a firm believer that those who
do the work should be the ones making the decisions, and it's
your baby, and if you don't want it to deliver on Wednesday,
then it doesn't.

Thursday is also a good fit, opposite NSD. Although the
capacity of NSD has been increased to 40 this year, that's
less than half of our projected in-town-on-Thursday people.

We also have an informal dinner/HH at the Bellagio, but
that will not attract all of the in-town crowd. Pity Party
could be a good lower-cost in-town thing for Thursday.

It could work on Friday as well, as one track of the multi
track evening, but Friday is usually a very strong night
for bars and clubs, so you may have trouble lining up a
venue for Friday evening.

Anyway, I think the major decision is the timeslot. Please
keep us informed as to what's going on. Thanks.

Thanks Kimberly.

I think we'll have a much better audience for this if we post it
in the general mailing instead of the Discussion Forum. I'll add
it to this weekend's mailing, which reaches about 900. Many of
those who attended last year don't read the Discussion Forum,
but almost all of them get the general mailings.

Magic Show:

Nora writes:

>If we schedule the magic show on Friday it looks like it would
>conflict with Holly's Murder mystery show. I would not prefer
>that the shows "compete".

I don't think the Murder Mystery has a capacity high enough to
be a concern of conflict here. I also see the Murder Mystery
and Magic's A Drag to be sufficiently different such that they
should not dilute each other in terms of interest.

However, it's your call on this.

Likewise, I don't think any of the Tuesday activities have a
limit high enough or a drawing power great enough to cause any
issues if you want to do it on Tuesday.

>I assume that the Pity Party will be scheduled on Wednesday as
>an alternative to the Limo ride or on Thursday as an alternative
>to the NSD. Do you think one of these nights would be better.

As Kimberly mentioned above, she prefers the Pity Party to not
be on Wednesday, but that's definitely not a done deal.

I can see the Magic's A Drag show fitting quite well as a local
option on NSD night, either by itself or opposite a Pity Party.
With an in-town contingent between 125 and 135 or so on Thursday,
that can divide out to 40 each at NDS, Pity Party, and show, with
some left over.

However (comma) ...

The time of the show concerns me more than the day. If the only
show is 7:00pm that limits our options. With a 7:00pm showtime,
it would complicate things on Tuesday or Friday, and probably
preclude it from Wednesday.

Wednesday activities:

. . .

>Concerning Wednesday night. I'm all in favor of a single track

Michelle spoke of 60 as a rough guess. My hunch is that we will
not have any trouble getting that number. I also have a feeling
that the 60 number could be bumped up if there are indeed more
who want to attend.

There will be some who do not attend, and there may be some who
can't attend due to capacity limits, although we seldom have a
true case where someone is turned away from an activity due to
capacity.

>Will the limo tour be the only event after dinner on Wednesday
>night.

As of what's solid on the schedule as of today, yes. The Limo
Tour has a hard-stop limit somewhere in the 30s, depending on
how we do the ticketing this year. This will handle only half
or so of those doing dinner, so there is an opportunity for a
second track in after dinner opposite the Limo Tour.

>I'm thinking of doing a gathering for those not going on the
>limo tour. Probably hang out at parasol up at wynn or the new
>poolside lounge at encore. No sign up or headcount needed.

>What do you think.

I think that would be an appropriate alternate-track activity
against the Limo Tour. The Pity Party, if it happens, may
still occur on Wednesday, although there's movement to have
it on another evening.
