Dates:
These are the date comments which came in over the past day
or so, presented as-is, without quoting, in the first person.
Thanks to all who responded.
As you will see, the comments are mixed.
We have one previously-unreported conflict with the current
timeframe, JoAnn. I've updated the conflict list, and will
summarize again should the current motion carry.
If we have any more discussion, please get it in ASAP. We'll
go for a vote when no discussion comes in for 48 hours.
Thanks, gang.

Diva Discussion on Dates:
JoAnn writes:
The designated Diva week of May 11-16 is the same time as my Spring
Residency for my doctoral program and I will not be able to attend Diva.
So opening discussion for another time is a preference for me.
Guess this is a difficult scheduling year for many of us.

I still like April 20 therw 25th but I know the hotel rates suck, I
heard the rates moderate a bit later on in the week. Maybe the party
can start on thurs the 23rd and end on the 28th. Although im sure
that this would not help hotel rates much, also it seems like a
lot of participants like to leave on sunday morning.

My comments regarding this are that this discussion appears to be only
whether or not the dates are reconsidered at this stage not a vote or
discussion on replacement dates.
My views were made clear earlier that I think we should live with the
current dates and there is no valid reason for reviewing them. In the
past when a date review was undertaken, it was met with significant
opposition even though it was for a very good reason, the realisation
that NAB clashed with DLV and the hotel prices were going to be
prohibitively expensive.
I have never said that any particular date will lock me out of DLV, this
year. It is my preference that it be as late as possible and in
particular if it lines up before or after Networld+InterOp it allows for
2 for one trip so to speak.
It is my position that we should NOT reconsider the dates unless there
is a significant and valid reason to do so and the basis of this motion
appears to be the change in circumstances of one or two people. It was
clear when the dates were originally discussed this year that getting a
suitable week that would agree with everyone was going to be hard. I
don't believe the change in circumstances is a valid reason.
We started with an April week, it was voted in and then it was out and
the May week was placed against several weeks in April and came out on
top.
If a vote is made to reconsider the dates then I will propose the
existing dates in May and see how they go in a vote. Whatever the vote
is I will live with it and either come or not, making it again clear
that neither set of dates specifically prevents me from coming to DLV
next year.

While I don't have an official vote on the subject I do think that re-
visiting earlier dates would be worthwhile. DLV is first and foremost
a vacation for attendees and Las Vegas simply gets less and less
appealing as a destination - doubly so with full coverage makeup,
breast forms, etc. I know I'd personally prefer to visit earlier in
the year.
Of course I'll be there regardless. I have yet to see a proposed date
range I can't make work.

I'm as happy with the current dates as any. We have a problem with
later in the week, but one we can live with. For some reason just
about every proposed week and some are worse than others. However, I
suppose every week will have problems for someone. Some dates would be
even worse. Let's go with what we have.

For me personally, I think April would be a lot easier.
