Moving forward:
We've had some good discussion here, and we need to wind it
down and move things along. Thanks for everybody's input
and thanks for everybody's patience with this issue.
Thanks to all for keeping this sane and civil. Some may
remember that this was not the case when the Mothers Day
issue surfaced a few years ago. :(
Let's let the discussion continue for one more list cycle,
and if nothing earthshaking is received, call for votes this
weekend.

To summarize:
Let's review our nominated timeframes, with some "just the facts,
ma'am" advantage and disadvantage summaries.
It's clear that the group here does not want a schedule which
spans a weekend. None of those mentioned got any traction at
all.
Here are the candidate timeframes, in chronological order by
start date.
As for the "conflict points" rating, this is an attempt to
quantify the reported conflicts, weighted by how active
the volunteers have been.
I'm counting one point for each year the individual has been
active as a volunteer, thus the lower the number, the better
as far as overall volunteer resources.
>1. Sunday, March 22 thru Friday March 27.
Advantages: Possibly cooler. Happens sooner. Allows full attendance
on weekday room rates.
Disadvantages: Middle of Lent.
Active volunteers and long-timers affected: Michelle
Conflict points: 8
>2. Monday, April 20 thru Saturday, April 25.
Advantages: Similar calendar week as DLV 2008.
Disadvantages: NAB Convention, astronomical room rates.
Active volunteers and long-timers affected: Michelle
Conflict points: 8
>3. Sunday, April 26 thru Friday, May 1.
Advantages: Allows full attendance on weekday hotel rates.
Active volunteers and long-timers affected: Michelle, Ginger,
Mindy.
Conflict points: 22
>4. Monday, April 27 thru Saturday, May 2.
Active volunteers and long-timers affected: Michelle, Ginger,
Mindy.
Conflict points: 22
>5. Monday, May 11 thru Saturday, May 16.
Advantages: Appears to have the fewest volunteer conflicts.
Disadvantages: Begins day after Mothers Day.
Active volunteers and long-timers affected: Ginger, Susan.
Conflict points: 7
There you have it, any final comments?

Thanks for the note, Susan. This has been added to the conflict
list above.

The only major conference which would interfere with any of the
proposed DLV dates is the NAB Convention, mentioned several times,
and happening the week of April 20.
As for TG events, Cal. Dreamin', which happens in the spring, has
not been announced yet. We've been told that En Femme Getaway,
is now back to the annual schedule, dropping the spring event.
The IFGE Convention has been pushed forward to February. Those
are the only three major ones which have so far overlapped DLV at
any time.

My thoughts ...
>1. Sunday, March 22 thru Friday March 27.
My only concern is that it may lock out Michelle. Yes, it is
Lent, but that doesn't seem to prevent other groups from holding
other events in Las Vegas during that period.
>2. Monday, April 20 thru Saturday, April 25.
I am opposed to this timeframe. Reason: NAB convention and high
room rates. I don't want to go through what we went through in
2006 (actually, November of 2005) due to our accidental
scheduling DLV to coincide with NAB.
>3. Sunday, April 26 thru Friday, May 1.
>4. Monday, April 27 thru Saturday, May 2.
26 thru 1 was my original choice, prior to knowing about the
conflicts for Mindy and Michelle.
>5. Monday, May 11 thru Saturday, May 16.
This follows Mothers Day, and my hunch is that there will be some
minor griping, but not much actual fall-out, if this is selected.
One femtosecond after midnight on Monday, Mothers Day is over
until 2010 and should therefore be a non-issue from that moment
forward. Ginger may have to leave early with this option.

Any final comments, gang?
