Hi,

It is clearly unfortunate that the dates of DLV now appear to conflict or
clash with a major Las Vegas conference. This is clearly going to affect the
hotel rates at some of those hotels that have been traditional favourites
but does it now mean that all hotels are unaffordable

>Amer. BVI $50
>Arizona C. $86
>Best West. $95
>Binion's $79
>El Cortez $59
>Fitzgeralds $44
>Four Queens $66
>G. Coast $59
>HoJo $75
>Imperial $76
>Orleans $63
>Plaza $77
>South Coast $87
>Super 8 $62
>LV Club $73

While I personally know nothing about these nor would I necessarily stay
in them the lower cost options are still available if people need / want
them.

Still this is also clearly not as acceptable as the previous and
subsequent weeks and presumably other weeks being considered.

We also have to consider all those other issues that a date change would
impact such as move to early May would interfere with Mothers Day
celebrations. That seems to have been a big hit on many in the past.

My preference would be a move to middle May, the week after DLV would be
good but any week would be acceptable. In my experience later in May
doesn't always mean hotter, just that the chance of hotter, warmer etc
is higher. Two years ago we had a very warm (HOT) DLV but the following
week had average temperatures that were 10-20 degrees lower. In any case
many DLVers do seem to live in the dark time zone during DLV and sleep
during the day anyway! :-)

As for April, this probably doesn't bother me that much either. The
first week is probably a definite no-no as I need to be here for my
daughters birthday.

The other consideration in consideration of change is not only the
impact this causes for this year but the uncertainty it may create later
when dates are seemingly chosen and then changed because of some similar
consideration.

I would have been REALLY p*ssed off if I had, as I was about to do,
booked a timeshare swap for the week that had seemed to be certain and
found that it is changed. How many will be affected by having
reservations that will now cost to change? Not many I guess but still
another consideration.

I guess a further consideration is how this conference may in turn
affect our activities. Big convention groups are often 'boy'sterous and
may be happy to do some TG baiting??!

If we are to change lets vote on that immediately...that is we will
consider a change. Consider the dates as a second and equally urgent
step within the next two weeks or so.

I therefore propose an immediate vote for:

DO you want to consider change of dates for DLV 2006 away from the week os
24-30 April? Yes / No

I would also like to formally proposed two potential alternative dates:

April 17-23
May 8-13

Hugs
Michelle
