Thanks for the heads up. I'm sure Luna (or another alternative) will be
fine. I think it's more important to keep the day/time than it is to
keep the venue on this one.

I'm assuming an evening gown, like the one I plan to wear to the La Cage
show, will meet the dress code. I'm sure most of our people have at
least one of these.

Ok, so noted. More comments below.

Ok, thanks, just wanted a clarification there.

>If anyone wants to come by early they can watch her do my makeup....
>probably around 1 pm or so......to get an idea of the application she

Actually, as I think of it, that's the day we're supposed to go blonde.
I may actually want her to do mine for that, to give the blonde thing a
good shot. A (natural blonde) cow-orker has given me a few hints on how
to do it, but this may be a better option. I know the one time I tried
on a blonde wig, I did *not* like the look, and maybe with a
professional makeup job it might look a bit better.

As an aside, I had an online chat with one of our people last weekend,
somebody I consider to be quite passable, and the topic of Blonde Night
came up. She remarked that she had tried on a blonde wig and "looked
like a guy in a blonde wig". I'm willing to give it a try, but if it
doesn't work, I reserve the right to bail out. :)

>I am sure the Metamorphosis party won't start any earlier than say, 10

Well, unless the limo tour runs over 48 hours, I'm sure the fantasy ball
won't interfere with it. :) :) :)

>I am on the mailing list so I will hear more soon...... as well as

Thanks, any more info would be great.

>Don't have the cell number yet but I will get it to you.

I think these discounts are quite generous and reasonable. I think both
shops will be doing quite a bit of business over the DLV week.

I tend to agree that Luna should be our primary after-show activity.

I admit this one is not for everybody, but I think there will definitely
be some interest. I dunno if I would want to go, but I may have $10
worth of curiosity. :)

I agree it should not be our feature activity after the show, and I think
we have a consensus that Luna should be.

Let's see what Leah finds out about logistics and price, and then make
a decision whether to list it on the schedule as a second-track option,
or just mention it in the text. Does this sound ok to everybody?

I intend(ed) those numbers to be used in case the main numbers do not
answer and somebody needs to know how to find the group, needs some
encouragement, etc.

>I'm there to answer questions about where the action is at that time,
>or maybe give a few words of encouragement to help a new girl walk out
>her door, but I'm not there to provide a taxi service on-demand.

That was exactly what was intended.

Two things were stated in the final mailings last year:

1. Volunteer drivers were not a taxi service, and were to provide as
available rides to on-time people.

2. The contact people whose phone numbers were listed were not to be
depended upon to get anybody a ride at short notice.

Here are my drafts for this year, based upon what was sent last year:

First, about phones, rewritten substantially ...

Included text marked with +, my notes without them.

+Contacting the group:

+For general information, to find out how to meet up with the group, if
+you need activity information, directions, etc., contact one of the
+following:

+1. Phone Diane (local Las Vegas landline) at xxx-xxxx

+2. Phone Leah (local Las Vegas cellular) at xxx-xxxx

+3. Phone Annie (long distance from Las Vegas) at 402-681-0524

+4. Page Annie at 800-999-6710 pid 9982603.

+Big Sister Emergency Hotline:

+In the event you need the immediate assistance from a volunteer Big
+Sister, contact one of the following:

+1. Phone Leah (local Las Vegas cellular) at xxx-xxxx

+2. Phone Annie (long distance from Las Vegas) at 402-681-0524

+If you are stuck and need a ride:

+If you have not yet been matched up with a volunteer driver or drivers,
+please contact one of the people below:

+1. Phone Leah (local Las Vegas cellular) at xxx-xxxx

+2. Phone Annie (long distance from Las Vegas) at 402-681-0524

I'm intending to put a note here that people running late to a scheduled
activity may be asked to take a taxi, in a nice way, of course.

Leah has graciously volunteered to drive a van for the week, and I will
have one also, but I am intending to tell those who phone late, or phone
after I have been tricked into drinking too many shots of Galiano{sic}
that they should take a taxi. I don't know what Leah's personal policy
will be.

Hey, I'm willing to bend as much as I can, but there are limits. :)

Actually, I'm willing to bend quite a bit for a genuine nervous newbie
who is sitting in her hotel room scared sh*tless on what was to be her
first night out, but not for those who are running late and are
perfectly able to walk to the entrance and ask the doorman to get her
a taxi.

+(Cellular) phone and pager coverage will not be available at the
+following times:

+1. Thursday evening, during the LaFemme show.

+2. Saturday evening, during the Frank Marino (La Cage) show.

+Coverage should be available all other times.

+Cell phones don't work very well in some buildings in Las Vegas, so if
+you phone and don't get an answer, wait and try again or try paging.

+Keep trying if necessary.

+If no answer or no response, in the event you need to contact a live
+body immediately and the people listed above can't be reached by phone
+or pager, here are two others. Both are toll calls from the Las Vegas
+area.

+Tina: 1-512-656-3061
+Denise: 1-520-271-5051
[bobbitt]

We can put in a note that the above two numbers are not to be used to
try to get a ride at short notice.

In fact, we should publish the number for the taxi driver that Leah
has mentioned. Maybe even some local numbers for taxi companies.
. . . . .

Next, on drivers and riders, mostly same as last year ...

+Rides and riders:

+We are very fortunate to have a number of volunteers who have
+volunteered to provide rides to DLV activities for the DLV people.
+We are sending out driver and rider lists for those at the Sahara,
+the Imperial Palace, and those staying elsewhere.

+Riders: Please make a note of who the drivers on your list are, and
+obtain contact information at one of your first DLV activities.

+If you need a ride and get in town before you are matched up with a
+driver, or drivers, please phone or page. We'll be sure somebody is able
+to pick you up for the early DLV activities.

+Riders, please note the following:

+1. This is not a taxi service. It's as-available transportation to
+the DLV activities at the scheduled times.

+2. Please make careful note of the contact information for your
+driver(s).

+3. Please take the initiative to contact your driver WELL IN ADVANCE
+when you will be needing a ride. Don't assume your driver knows, be
+sure.

+4. PLEASE BE PUNCTUAL. Allow plenty of time to get ready. If you're
+going to be late, please contact your driver as soon as possible.

+Please use alternate transportation (taxi, etc.) if it looks like you
+will be holding others up. PLEASE PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO TIME AND
+PUNCTUALITY IF YOU NEED A RIDE TO THE SHOWS ON THURSDAY AND/OR SATURDAY.

+5. Donations to a driver's gas fund are appreciated and encouraged. :)

+6. The DLV contact people listed above can POSSIBLY assist you in
+getting in touch with a volunteer driver, but SHOULD NOT BE DEPENDED
+UPON TO GET YOU A RIDE AT SHORT NOTICE.

That is verbatim from last year's note.

+7. If you go to any of the late night activities, please be prepared to
+use alternate transportation (taxi, etc.) back to your hotel in the
+event you wish to stay out later than your driver(s).

+8. Please be appreciative and courteous toward your driver(s). They are
+going out of their way to help make DLV more enjoyable for all!

+9. (Yeah yeah, I hate this stuff too, but ...) If you accept a ride
+during DLV, please do so with the understanding that it is at your own
+risk, a private arrangement between driver and rider, and that DLV
+organizers and volunteers cannot be responsible if something awful
+happens.

+Drivers, please note the following:

+1. The Las Vegas traffic can be extremely slow and congested, especially
+on the Strip. Particularly problematic areas include the intersection
+of Flamingo and the Strip, the intersection of Tropicana and the Strip,
+and the Strip northbound between Tropicana and Flamingo. Please allow a
+very liberal amount of extra time when planning to pick up people and
+deliver them to DLV activities.

+2. If one (or more) of your riders is running late to the planned
+activities, especially the time-specific ones such as the shows on
+Thursday and Saturday, and the dinner on Friday, please do not wait, but
+deliver your on-time riders, and at your discretion, return to pick up
+your late rider(s) or ask them to use alternate transportation.

+Airport pickup:

+Unfortunately, due to heightened security, people meeting passengers are
+no longer allowed in the gate area, the available short-term parking
+area that is used for this has been closed, and no-standing regulations
+are being strictly enforced. We're asking that you use a taxi or shuttle
+to get to your hotel unless there are extenuating circumstances. In the
+event you need a pick-up at the airport and the public transportation
+services do not appear to be an option, please write me directly
+(annie@annie.net) and explain the circumstances.
