Stand up and be counted:
Although we already have a number of registrations already, there are quite
a few missing names, including people who have volunteered to help out with
DLV.
If you haven't registered yet, please stop by the URL:
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/reg.html
It's perfectly OK to answer approximately on some items as well as
"don't know" if you don't know where you're staying yet. You can
edit/update any time.
Only a matter of time until the "how many are coming" question starts
popping up.
Thanks, gang.

Hotels:
We've briefly discussed adding the Boardwalk as a third suggested hotel
for DLV 2002. There have been no objections received so far. It looks
like they want our business and will give us at least a small incentive
to steer some of our business their way.
If there are any objections to, or further discussion of adding this to
our suggested hotels, please speak now, as the main DLV list starts next
week and I have to adjust some wording in a number of places, such as
web pages, sign-up forms, etc.
Mindy, any news on rates?

This happened to me already. The x-ray operator did not like what he saw
(a pair of pliers and a hemostat) so I was pulled aside for a manual
inspection. All the guy really cared about were the tools, and didn't
rummage thru the rest. This was at Eppley (Omaha) at the checkpoint for
the north concourse. It was out in the open, but no other passengers
appeared to be interested.
As to checked baggage, in Omaha, at least, and with Southwest, they have
a row of partitions where those who are singled out are taken for a
close look. It's actually quite discreet. I dunno about other airports
or airlines. I'll report on either Delta or Midwest Express, since I'll
be flying one of them to Atlanta in a few weeks.
Those on line were speculating on who was getting singled out, and one
guy mentioned that those who paid cash, flew one-way, or walked up
without a reservation were far more likely go be escorted to those
tables.
This is one area I would kinda like to soft-pedal when the main list
gets going.
In all reality, no, some guido-type security goon is not gonna hold up a
pair of lace undies and scream "these belong to you, Mac?", but I can
see this discouraging some from attending. I think if this is brought
up as a concern, the best thing to do is promote the package receiving
service.

></deep memory scan>
The one I am thinking of, but I am not gonna swear it was *the original*
casino named Castaways, was right where the Mirage is now, and, iirc, it
was one of those owned by Hughes. I remember eating breakfast there with
my dad and his GF back in the 70's. It was still there in the early
80's, but was razed to make room for the mirage.
I know the tract on Flamingo that you're thinking of, and I vaguely
<dms> remember a casino there in the 80's </dms> but I can't think of
the name.
Also <dms> I vaguely recall this being demolished in the 90's. </dms>
Update: Curiosity got the better of me on this one, so I posted the
question in one of the Las Vegas newsfroups. The answer is that it was
not named Castaways, but it was never fully built at all ...

+That would be the never-built "Carribean." The only construction there
+was a replica "pirate" ship and a construction trailer. The ship was
+burned to the ground by vandals in 1994.
