Yes, I do see the point there.

Well, last week I suggested making the Sahara and the IP our "suggested"
DLV 2002 hotels, but I don't think that's a closed topic. If you would
like to make the Boardwalk a third one, let's discuss it here.

Personally, I have no objections to adding a third one, especially if
there is some aggressive pricing involved. Comments, gang?

Ok, can you give us some examples of real-world air and/or air-hotel
rates. None of this "as low as" stuff, but some example of real,
bookable fares. For many of our people, the bottom line is the bottom
line. If he can beat Travelocity/Orbitz for real, bookable fares, I'm
sure he can get some of the DLV peoples' business.

Ok, we have a side trip on the slate for Sunday afternoon. Can you get a
proposal together for something like that?

Well, as of this day, hour, minute, and second, nobody has stepped
forward to coordinate the Really Big Shew thing for Saturday evening.
Can you ask him for suggestions, and of course, how much?

Yes, it would probably be best if you could interface with him, if you
don't mind. Thanks.

Ok, thanks. We'll keep it on the slate for later Wednesday and move it
if your report indicates it's necessary.

Might be an option for those in early.

They tell me (the ubiquitous "they") that Freezone no longer has a
terminal case of anal-cranial inversion regarding restrooms. I dunno
if they still charge for (tap) water.

Uh, you already have. :)

>Now for a real controversy: is it spelled blond or blonde?

That part I can probably answer, having had two semesters of French back
in 19{mumble}. Difference, in French, would be gender, the "e" version
being feminine. Romance languages (French, Spanish, ObTrivia: name them)
tend to be far more gender-specific than do Germanic languages (English,
German, Obtrivia: name them).

As far as contemporary usage, I'm sure every American dictionary will list
"blond" as preferred, but I think "blonde" is more commonly written, here
in the States, that is. (We seldom see such variants as "employe" and
"cigaret" anymore.)

If you want, and you're into S&M, specifically the M part, you can pose
the question in alt.usage.english and see how long and diverse the
thread will grow. :)

It was a good idea anyway, but if it ain't gonna work, it ain't ...

Yes, Gina has noted on her registration that she will be bringing the
plane and will do air tours if there is a demand.

Gina, Densie, when on the schedule would be good for this?

>Skydiving is still a possibility, too, if anyone wants to do it.

We can call for a show of hands on this when the main list gets started
up in January. Personally, I don't have a clue as to how many will
actually be interested.

Uh, like what, your cell phone? <vbfg>

Seriously, as has been mentioned, plan on things lightening up more as
far as draconian security measures. I haven't heard of any casino doing
such things as purse inspections, but I ran into that at the Museum of
Science and Industry (post-attack) and at RHPS in Oakland (pre-attack).

LOL ... They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Take a look

Then compare this to the verbiage on the page:

Thanks to Cat for the pointer to this one. :)

Dress suggestions:

This past week I retrieved and dusted off the various files that make up
what Michelle calls the "War And Peace Edition" of the DLV mailing list,
meaning those that are sent out right before the big event.

As we discussed in the followup to DLV 2001, I want to include a section
which specifically addresses style of dress, and gives examples of what
is, and what is not, appropriate for various activities.

Yes, I know what you're thinking. :)

If I write this myself, without any input from others, it's probably
gonna have quite a slant toward the "P-Town Annie" style of dress. :) :)

What I would like to do is get input from any and all of you who want to
say something along this line, create a compendium of thoughts and
suggestions, and use this as the item to be included in the final
mailing.

Sooooo ... If anybody has anything to say to the audience regarding this,
whether it's a sentence or a few pages, please send it it. Hopefully we
will be able to have a well-written document on this for the group.

I see this as a potentially valuable service, which could actually
increase our turnout. I know many people are scared sh*tless of having
their luggage inspected. (IMAO, the inspectors have seen it all before,
this being nothing compared to some of the stuff they see.)

What we can do is mention it in the earlier mailings, and send out a
note with address and specifics a few weeks before DLV.

As for return shipment, when I go to a trade show, I will often box up
that ton or so of literature and send it to my work, and LV has gobs of
those pack and ship places which will gladly handle it. Last year I
remember dropping off a box for one of the others at MBE after I took
her to the airport.

Most hotels will receive shipments for guests. I know both Sahara and
Riviera have a Business Service Center that will hold items. There is
a nominal charge for this at most places, though.

I hope those two businesses get along. That's close enough to be in each
others' face. Time will tell. Having two shops gives the consumer (that's
us, gang) the advantage of options and tends to keep prices in line.

Keys and posters:

Leah writes:

>Glad to hear that Keys will re-open in January.........phew!

That's what they say. I'm hoping it's true. Unfortunately I've seen many
businesses close for "remodeling" never to open again. Time will tell.
Keys' history is good, however, so let's think positive. :)

However, if you do get a chance to talk to Troy, it might not be a bad
idea to get the straight story.

>About the posters......I will be happy to distribute them around town,

That's what people seem to agree on, however, we have a possibility of

I see a number of options for you. First, for your web page, you can 'jack
or frame the original page at (correct this time):

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2002/dlvposter.html

... but see below for what might be more effective ...

A binary image of the page/poster appears at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/dlvpost1.gif

It's a honker for a web graphic, but it can be used for a color printout.
Makes a small poster at current size, or a flyer/handout if reduced. It
could also be sent to anybody who wants to distribute it in hardcopy
form.

However, what I would suggest for a personal web page is to remote-load
or 'jack either http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2002/dlv2002a.gif (large)
or http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2002.gif (small) and draw a link to
the main DLV 2002 page at http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2002/ using
one of those images on your local page.

For e-mail, I would suggest simply providing a link to the DLV 2002
web page.
