Activities:

>The list of suggested activities is terrific, but impossible for any one
>person to be able to find the time to do everything.

Very true. Nobody attends everything, myself included. That's one reason
why we will most likely have several alternate activities lined up this
year.

>I suggest that you might appoint a volunteer chairwoman to manage
>certain activities.

Kinda difficult to appoint a volunteer. :) <vbfg>

>For example, if anyone wants to go to a movie
>early afternoon Thurs. or Fri. I would be happy to coordinate such an
>activity. At the same time others may want to go shopping, golf, etc.

>So, as an example, Friday at 1:00 PM could have a movie scheduled, and
>Vicki would be chairwoman. Wig shopping might also be scheduled for
>Friday at 1:00 PM with someone else in charge of that activity. And
>so on.

Ok, let's put this on the slate, with asterisks for the time being.

DLV vs. SCC:

>Here's my big question. What is there about Diva such that someone will
>go there, rather than to SCC or something like that?

Totally different models, from start to finish. DLV is <StuckCD> a
vacation, not a convention </StuckCD> and Southern Comfort and the like
are just that, conventions.

DLV is more real-life and less of a communal closet, even though most of
the large T* conventions are having more side trips and such lately.

>What enticements are
>there to go to Diva, exatcly?

Uh, great people, fun activities, excellent venue ...

>And lastly, what can Diva give you that you can't get at SCC?

Uh, better food. <lol>

Seriously, they are totally different beasts. Each offers a totally
different set of events and activities. DLV tends to be more real-life
oriented and emphasizes the things that are available in Las Vegas and
not elsewhere. Southern Comfort is a mainline T* convention, and has
the usual presentations, seminars, banquets, etc.

DLV will be more personal, since the headcount is measured in tens
rather than hundreds.

DLV is also a one-of-a-kind. Many of the mainline T* conventions are
clones of each other, or rather mini-clones of FanFair.

I don't think of us (DLV and mainline T* conventions) as in competition.
In the real world, however, many of our people have to limit their
participation to one or two events per year, so there is a practical
consideration here. Those who frequent the T* conventions tend to burn
out on them, and many of them are looking for events that offer more
variety, perhaps more in the real world. That's where we can help.

Updating the boilerplate:

>Is it always necessary to post all the schedule and junk at the end?
>Can you at least let us know when you add or change something? I'm
>always skipping it since I've seen it so many times.

Ok, let's add an "updated" flag on the boilerplate items to denote
when they are updated.

Some sad news:

>Here's some sad news I found.

>+Today: October 17, 2000 at 11:18:43 PDT

>+Authorities investigate Hoover Dam death

>+ASSOCIATED PRESS

>+A man dressed in women's clothing was killed Monday
>+when he either jumped or fell off the 726-foot-tall
>+Hoover Dam.

>+At least one tourist caught the fall on videotape.

>+"We don't know for sure whether he jumped or not,"
>+said Bob Walsh, a spokesman for the U.S. Bureau of
>+Reclamation.

>+Walsh said the man fell from the Nevada side of the
>+dam, which sits on the Nevada-Arizona border, about
>+3:45 p.m.

>+When authorities reached the body at the bottom of
>+the dam, they saw that the man was wearing women's
>+clothing. He had no identification on him.

>+Authorities were checking vehicles in the parking lot to
>+determine if one of them belonged to the victim.

>+The death is under investigation.

I sure hope that's not one of our people. :(

I wrote a note to somebody who is a bit closer to the scene, she said
she would let me know if she finds out anything.

Please let us know of any more details.

New LV e-group:

Brandi writes:

>I host a relatively new egroup for transgendered folks in the Las Vegas
>area. I set it up hoping that I could bring together folks in the area
>and let them know about where to go, etc here in Las Vegas. I just
>wanted to let you know we existed.

Thanks, Brandi. I see we have mention on the site already. :)

I'll post the link to the group on our links page.
