Now that things have settled down a bit, I would like to do a final
summary and comments on the event in general, and each activity
specifically, to use as seeds for the organizational discussions for
next year.
We need to know what you liked, what you did not like, anything you
would like to see happen, and any difficulty you had with any aspect
of the event.
Plans are to close this list (dlv2k AKA dlv2000) down within the next
couple weeks and replace it with two new lists, which are:
1. The Diva Las Vegas organizational list (dlvorg). This will be for
those who want to take part in planning and organizing DLV 2001. It
will be open to all of you, of course, but we'll start it with those
who were previous DLV volunteers and those who provided input to the
planning of DLV 2000.
2. The main DLV mailing list (dlv). Let's just call this "dlv" from
now on. That way it won't have to be torn down and rebuilt when the
date changes. :) This will be for everybody who is interested in DLV,
and will be very slow before the first of the year or so.
Please go ahead and comment by reply to this list. We'll send them
out to the entire list, and then review them on the dlvorg list.

Web pages:
I still have some tweaking to do, but the pages on geekbabe.com are
taking shape. :) Thanks to all who provided pics. I've showed them to a
few friends (net and non-net) and cow-orkers, and everybody likes them,
especially the one annotated group shot taken at Goodtimes on Friday
night.
I would like to ask everybody to take a quick peek at the final copy
of the group shot with names and check it for accuracy. Looks like we
have three winners in the "contest", but I do want to be sure what is
on the final copy is accurate. Please correct any spelling errors too.
URL for this is:
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2000/who/
Of course, the lead-off URL for the dlv2k pages is:
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2000/
Also, if anybody else has put up any DLV pages, I would like to include
a link from the main DLV2k followup page. Please let me know.

No-shows:
I know this is to be expected at t-events, but still, when they happen
I do feel bad, and wonder if there is something that could be done,
especially in the case of apprehension or nervousness.
Of the individuals and couples who sent in the e-mail responses, 4 of
these (roughly 10% of our total) were total no-show no-write no-phone
no-nothing. One of them had even written a brief "See you Friday" note
less than a week before.
Yes, we did have a few late cancellations, most of these had quite
sensible reasons. What I'm concerned about are those who simply dropped
off the face of the earth, who were expected at DLV, but did not show.
If there's anybody here who bailed out, I would be interested in knowing
why. No hard feelings, I promise. If there's anything any of us could
have done to make things more comfortable for you, please let us know.

Event summary:
Here's my blow-by-blow followup, my comments, with input from others:
Overall, I think things went very well for the most part. Everybody
seemed to take the "dress down" request seriously, and I think that
helped keep our event free of major incidents again.
Nobody reported any major problems getting in touch with the group,
finding places, getting a ride, etc.
Most important, everybody was friendly and funloving. I have yet to
hear any reports of anybody not having a good time. :)
The negative things I heard about include the following:
Baggage hassles at the airport. One person had bags delayed, but they
came in within a few hours. Another reported trouble finding the right
bag claim area. I don't think there's much we can do about these.
One couple got a cold response from one of the recommended vendors.
I spoke to the person who recommended this, and she was very surprised
and said she would talk to the contact person, who was out of town
for the DLV period.
Some parking hassles were reported. A few remarked there was no parking
in the vicinity of the bars in the Triangle district on Saturday night.
(Yes, we had one tow-away.)
Time crunches. A number of people reported being pressed for time for
the La Cage show, even though we went to the 9:30 show this year.
Likewise, several did not make the RHPS stating they were pressed for
time between La Cage and RHPS. The Saturday events were the only ones
reported for time crunches this year.
Let's review the schedule and comment ...
Thursday:
When: 5:30pm
What: Group buffet dinner.
Where: Sahara Hotel buffet.
I thought this worked quite well. Nobody seemed to have trouble finding
the group, either before, in the waiting area at the top of the
escalator or at the table, for those fashionably late.
No complaints that I'm aware of, anyway.
This is the second year we did this here, and I think we should again.
. . . . .
When: 8:00pm
What: Pre-DLV get-together
Where: Las Vegas Lounge, see directions.
Again, I think this came off quite well. One person did have a bit of
trouble finding it, but this seemed an isolated case.
LV Lounge seems like a nice place. Most everybody liked it. Management
is, of course, very t-friendly.
As many of you know, the group seemed to kind of gravitate toward this
place this year, even when it was not the primary specified bar du jour.
. . . . .
Friday:
When: 1:00pm-4:00pm
What: Mary Kay Open House
Where: 3939 Monthill Ave, see directions.
I had expected a larger turnout, according to the responses on the
mail-in requests, but we did have a number of people there. I think
the Mary Kay ladies were satisfied with the turnout and the sales,
and I heard no complaints about products or services.
I definitely think that something like this is best done toward the
beginning of the weekend.
. . . . .
When: 5:00pm
What: Group dinner.
Where: Freezone, see directions.
This one was supposed to be an organized thing, but the person putting
it together had a family emergency. We had intended to eat at Freezone
but their kitchen was not open until 7:00pm. Some of us went across the
street to Milano's (VERY GOOD) and some others went to Keys.
The Milano's crowd raved about the food. The people who went to Keys
complained about variety of food and slow service.
IMAO, we really don't need formal organized dinners, we simply need to
agree on a place that we know to be good that also has adequate space
and do it. Comments?
. . . . .
When: 7:00pm
What: Welcome get-together.
Where: Good Times Lounge, see directions.
As with the other years, this turned out quite well, both in terms of
turnout and enthusiasm. No complaints, everybody had a good time that
I heard.
. . . . .
Saturday:
When: 12:00pm
What: Driving/walking Strip tour.
Where: Starting at Mirage.
Went well from what I could see. Some people {blush} were a bit late.
We did have one issue with shoes, one person thought a new pair of
sandals would be easier on her feet than they were. :(
I mentioned that I would be going to the Palace Station buffet after,
and I had no trouble dragging two tables full of people with me.
. . . . .
When: 12:30pm
What: SO's luncheon.
Where: Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood.
The turnout was abysmal, despite 8 people indicating they would be there
on the mail-in responses. What happened, gang? :(
I appreciate Patty's initiative on this, and I wish people who said they
would attend and did not would have at least mentioned that they would
not be attending.
. . . . .
When: 9:30pm
What: La Cage (Frank Marino Show).
Where: Riviera Hotel, north Strip.
I enjoyed the show, even though this is the 4th year in a row I've seen
it with the DLV group. I thought the seats were much better than we had
the past couple years, although it still was a bit cramped. I didn't
hear any complaints about seats or bright lights this year.
We had a number of people who were late, and a few who BARELY made it.
We had planned to meet in the lounge at 8:15, but when Deb and I arrived,
nobody else was obvious. I waited by the lounge, and Deb waited on the
third floor to try to catch our people.
Again, I want to thank Melissa (thanks, Melissa :) for coordinating this.
They had our area ready in advance and even the people who arrived late
were properly seated with us.
There were a few issues reported here. One of our people lost a book in
the ladies room, there was one complaint of a discourteous bartender,
and reports of catcalls in the lounge and in the parking garage.
I think that if we get that many people in that fancy a mode of dress in
any one place, yes, it will attract attention. I think the attention was
more due to the mode of dress than to the fact of who we are.
. . . . .
When: 12:00 midnight
What: Rocky Horror Picture Show
Where: Paradise Cinema, 3330 E. Tropicana (at Pecos)
It's astounding! (Time is fleeting!) :)
This wasn't for everybody, and wasn't intended to be. Great show, and
the group received a nice introduction from their MC. Some of the
people got into a time crunch after La Cage and ended up landing at
the bars instead.
. . . . .
AND/OR
When: 12:00 to ??????
What: Nightclubbing
Where: Gypsy (nightclub). See directions.
I didn't go. I went to RHPS and crashed afterwards. :)
We did have one tow-away incident. :(
Apparently some people who went to Freezone were hassled by a security
guard about using the ladies room. :(
Comments?
. . . . .
Sunday:
When: 1:00pm SHARP
What: Hoover Dam Tour (personal, guided)
Where: Meet at 7-11 at Horizon Dr. exit of I-515
This indeed has to be the best dam bargain on the trip! Thanks Deb!!!!!
I never get tired of this. No complaints about the boymode request.
We had a nice dinner at the Magic Star Casino in Henderson following
the tour.
Everybody appeared to be on time, and had no trouble finding the
rendezvous point at the 7-11.
. . . . .
When: 7:30pm
What: Splash (production show).
Where: Riviera Hotel, Strip at Riviera Blvd
I didn't go, but met the group at Keys afterwards. Comments?
Thanks again to Tina (Thanks, Tina :) for coordinating this.
. . . . .
Monday:
When: 9:00-10:00am
What: Golf
Where: Las Vegas Golf Club
I'm not a golfer, but it seems like those who went had a good time
except for one very bad case of sunburn. It also started a bit later
than we planned.
Thanks again to Julie (thanks, Julie) for coordinating this.
. . . . .
When: 2:30pm
What: Side trip to Valley Of Fire
Where: Meet at Sahara self-park lot at 2:30pm (SE cor. Sahara & Paradise)
This was great, very relaxing. We had a nice dinner at Milano's following.
This is very low-key, but scenic and enjoyable.
We had some timing misunderstandings, 2:00pm vs. 2:30pm.
One person remarked that the group was not visible in the Sahara parking
lot. I intentionally got there before 2:00pm and parked dead ahead of
the turn-in lane on Paradise and watched for anybody who appeared to be
looking for somebody. We waited until 2:45 to leave, and made a circuit
of the parking lot before departing. I dunno what else could be done.
Maybe we need one of those magnetic signs ("DLV") to stick on the side
of a car, huh?
. . . . .
Tuesday:
When: 1:30pm
What: Shopping
Where: Meet at Sahara self-park lot at 2:30pm
Not very many went. I guess the crowd had thinned considerably.
. . . . .
When: 9:00pm - ?????
What: Farewell bar/club tour
Where: Meet at Freezone (see directions) at 9:00pm.
The group got fragmented at several locations. Some ended up at Freezone,
others at LV Lounge.
