In addition to this mailing, you will also receive the following items in separate mailings: . Your personalized final confirmation and itinerary. (This may arrive slightly before or after the rest of the items.) . Final detailed schedule of activities. . Driving directions to all activities. . Notes on dress suggestions. . List of volunteer drivers and people who need rides. IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE THESE WITHIN A DAY OR SO, WRITE TO dlv@geekbabe.com AND STATE WHICH ITEMS ARE MISSING. Your personal confirmation and itinerary. 3. The map(s) at: http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2003/maps/ 4. The vendor and club list at http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/vendors/ Pack them and bring them with you. We will not be handing out any hardcopy lists, maps, etc. . . . . . These will be the last major items sent to DLV 2003 participants. Only other items will be any important news or updates. Please see the DLV 2003 Discussion List for any remaining discussion. All you really have to do is to show up at one of the activities, such as Happy Hour or the Welcome Celebration on Tuesday, etc. If you're uneasy about joining us, keep reading. :) . . . . . Can we tawk ... If you're new, perhaps a bit uncertain, uneasy, that's ok. All of us have been there before and we know what it's like. We will do all we can to make this an enjoyable and most memorable experience for you. At every T* event I've ever attended, there have always been "no-shows". These are people who have registered for the event, paid for travel and accommodations, but simply decided at the last minute not to go to the event. I've spoken to a number of these people, and in most cases, simple uneasiness and uncertainty caused them to, for lack of a better term, "chicken out" at the last moment. It's natural to feel uneasy when you travel to unfamiliar places, to meet people you do not know or do not know very well. I can assure you that even though you may not know the others yet, you will be among friends! If you're uneasy to the point of considering bailing out, please keep in mind that the group you will be joining wants you there, and will go out of their way to help you feel comfortable. I know many of the people who will be there personally, and I can assure you that of those I know, there is not a single jerk among them. They are very caring and funloving individuals. We want to include you in our circle of friendship for this very special event. If you have never appeared in public, or are uneasy about doing so, remember that we want you there in any shape or form you are in. If you would rather stay in boymode for a while, and perhaps try girlmode after you get to know everybody better, that's cool. If you want to stay in boymode all week, that's cool too, as long as you're comfortable with it. If you somehow have trouble getting the nerve to walk out of your hotel room to go to any of the activities, let us know. Phone us. We'll get a "big sister" to you pronto to assure you and escort you, if necessary. If you would like to correspond with somebody one-to-one on any nervousness or uneasiness you have, write to us, dlv@geekbabe.com, and we will have a Big Sister contact you and do what she can. . . . . . When you get to DLV, if something is wrong, let us know! We want your comments and feedback, on the spot, positive or negative. If you feel uneasy or you're uncomfortable with anything, ask for a Big Sister to accompany and assist you. If you see anything that could be improved on, please feel free to make suggestions. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Making contact: It is not necessary to phone to let us know you have arrived in town. All you need to do is show up at any of the scheduled activities. We'll be looking for ya. :) When you come to your first DLV activity, look for or ask for the person who is taking names. He or she will check you in, give you your name badge, and ask if you have any questions or concerns. See detailed directions on how to find the locations, when and where to meet, etc. We will be expecting you. Some of our volunteer Big Sisters will be at all of the activities early, and we will be watching for anybody who appears to be looking for somebody. IN ANY CASE, IF YOU HAVE ANY DIFFICULTY FINDING ANY OF THE LOCATIONS, OR FINDING THE GROUP WITHIN ANY OF THE PLACES, FIND A PHONE AND LET US KNOW. We'll give you explicit directions. Numbers are below. . . . . . Contacting the group: For general information, to find out how to meet up with the group, if you need activity information, directions, etc., contact one of the following: Leah (local Las Vegas cellular) at 702-419-0732 Cat (local Las Vegas cellular) at 702-336-1202 Monique (long distance from Las Vegas) at 615-476-6110 Note that if you leave a message for a return call at any of the above, please expect the call to be returned collect if you do not leave a local Las Vegas number. If you request a return call to a hotel room, please leave the name of the person to ask for. Many hotels will not complete a phone call when only the room number is given. In the event you need the immediate assistance from a volunteer Big Sister, contact one of the above numbers and state that you have a need to speak to a Big Sister. (Please do not use these numbers for the sole purpose of asking for a ride at short notice.) Phone coverage will not be available at the following times: 1. Thursday evening, during the Jubilee show and the limo tour. 2. Saturday evening, during Showgirls Of Magic. 3. Monday daytime and Sunday afternoon during the side trips. Cell phones don't work very well in some buildings in Las Vegas, so if you phone and don't get an answer, try one of the other numbers or wait a while. Keep trying if necessary. If no answer or no response, in the event you need to contact a live body immediately and the people listed above can't be reached by phone here are two others. Both are toll calls from the Las Vegas area. (Again, these two numbers are not to be used to try to get a ride at short notice.) Tina: 1-512-656-3061 Annie: 1-402-681-0524 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Conditions Of Participation: Please take a few seconds and review the DLV 2003 Conditions Of Participation. If anything is unclear to anybody regarding any of these points, please write in and we will clarify any points you do not understand. +DLV 2003 Conditions Of Participation: +We're extending this invitation to you to join us for the event we call +Diva Las Vegas providing you agree to the following conditions: +1. That you dress and act as a lady or a gentleman, in accordance with +the gender you are presenting at any given time. + a. That your dress and behavior be appropriate to the time, place and + circumstance of each activity. + b. That you refrain from dressing or acting in a manner intended to + flaunt transgenderism, or a manner which is primarily intended to + attract attention. + c. That you refrain from illegal activities. PATENTLY ILLEGAL BEHAVIOR + WILL NOT BE TOLERATED, AND IF NECESSARY WILL BE REPORTED TO THE + APPROPRIATE AUTHORITIES. + d. About photography: If you represent the press or a publication, or plan to submit photographs of DLV for print publication or broadcast, we ask that you first identify yourself to Annie or Tina (ask any DLV volunteer if you do not know these individuals) prior to taking any photos or conducting any interviews, and follow certain guidelines which will be discussed with you in person. At DLV, there are no general restrictions on the taking of or the noncommercial use of personal photographs. It can be assumed that several people present will have cameras and will be taking pictures throughout the event at all activities. In addition, there will be two times where we call for a posed group photograph. See notes regarding this below. Once a photograph has been taken, it is very difficult, if not impossible, to control the distribution of it. It can be assumed that a significant number of the photos taken at DLV will end up on the web. . . . . . Camera-shy individuals, please follow these guidelines: 1. In a courteous manner, please inform anybody who is taking pictures if you do not want to be photographed. Remind them at each activity at which they are taking pictures. Refresh their memory if they point a camera your way. 2. Be aware that during the excitement of the moment, those taking pictures may not remember that you do not wish to be photographed. If somebody points a camera your way, wave him or her off or turn your head. 3. If you don't want to be photographed, do not pose whenever a call is made for a group photograph. No, we will not be making two editions of the group photos. Same goes for informal photographs at such activities as the Limo Tour and Golf. . . . . . Photographers, please observe the following: 1. Please respect the wishes of those who do not want to be photographed. From our organizers' perspective, their right to not be photographed comes before your right to take photographs. 2. Please use discretion when photographing anybody in boymode, mixed-mode, or any state of undress or incomplete dress. 3. Please look beyond the subject of your photographs to avoid including those in the background who might not want to be in your photographs. 4. Photography is not permitted in the showrooms during Jubilee on Thursday and Showgirls Of Magic on Saturday. . . . . . We encourage individuals to take personal photos at all DLV activities. If you attend the smaller activities (Air Tours, High Tea, SO's Get- together, etc.) or if you get together with others and do things on your own, please get some photos, as there will be fewer cameras present than at the major activities. After DLV, there will be a "Call For Photos" and everybody is encouraged to submit their photos. When we put together the "official" DLV 2003 followup pages, we will post all candidate photos in a private staging area. All present will have the opportunity to preview these and everybody will have a reasonable number of "no" votes on any photos in which they appear. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Group photographs: There are two occasions during DLV where we will be taking "official" (if there is such a thing) DLV 2003 group photographs. 1. About 9:30pm on Friday, during the Annual Mixer. 2. Immediately following Showgirls Of Magic on Saturday night. Posing for these is optional, however, once they are taken, there is no backing out, and we will not crop or black-out anybody. With the number of people we expect to be present for these, it is very important that we move things along quickly to let everybody get on to socializing or whatever they wish to do. We're once again using the "designated camera" approach, where we will use two cameras, one digital and one film, several frames on each, and we will promptly make large hi-res images available to all. We will be using two photographers, and two additional people to guide and pose those in the photos. We're asking all others who do not wish to pose to please stay clear of the photo area. We're asking everybody to please help us move this process along, taking up as little time as possible. To do this, please observe the following guidelines during these photo sessions: 1. When the call is made to pose, if you want to be included in the photo, please move promptly to the photo area. Please do not keep the others waiting. 2. Tall people, please move to the rear of the photo area, shorter people toward the front, please. A volunteer will possibly ask you to move or adjust your position if needed. 3. Please do not take food, drinks or smoking material into the photo area. 4. If you're not posing, please stay clear of the photo area. Please let the volunteers do their jobs and get the process completed as soon as possible. 5. Please do not ask the volunteers or others to take additional photos of the assembled group with your personal camera. We will me making the group photos available free of charge and promptly. 6. Between frames, change your position and your expression slightly. We want everybody to have at least one shot where they are happy with the way they look. For Friday, during the Annual Mixer, we will call for all who wish to appear in the photos to move into a large area off to the side. For Saturday evening following Showgirls Of Magic, please remain in the showroom following the final curtain call, then please proceed to the stage when the word is given. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Name tags: A name tag will be provided to you when you check in. Wearing name tags is optional, but highly encouraged. This will identify you as a DLV participant and will help others to get to know you and to remember your name. Your name tag will have the name you used when you registered on line. Please be sure that it is spelled correctly and in the form you desire. Yes, as before, there will be some unannounced incentives for people to wear their name tags at DLV activities. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Rides and riders: Good news! It appears that there will be far more available seats than there are riders who need them. Please see special note below regarding rides to early DLV activities. . . . . . We've made a few changes in our driver/rider matching program for DLV 2003. As mentioned in the previous mailings, we're asking those who need rides to stay in one of our suggested hotels and to make careful note of the designated rider pick-up location for that hotel, as noted below. We will be compiling three lists of volunteer drivers and people needing rides, one each for those at the Imperial Palace, the Sahara, and one combined list for those at the San Remo and Tropicana. . . . . . For each activity, we've set a rider pick-up time. This is 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE POSTED START TIME of each activity unless stated otherwise. An earlier pick-up time is set for some activities. IT IS THE RIDER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO BE AT THE DESIGNATED PICK-UP LOCATION AT THE RIDER PICK-UP TIME. We're asking our drivers to place a black-on-white "DLV" sign in their windshield so they may be easily identified. Please remember that each DLV participant is ultimately responsible for his or her transportation to all DLV activities. Volunteer drivers will almost always be available, but a ride SHOULD NOT BE EXPECTED AT SHORT NOTICE, or for THOSE RUNNING LATE. Those who phone asking for a ride once a DLV activity is already in progress will in almost all cases be asked to please take a taxi. Although these rides are provided in good faith, there is no guarantee. Our volunteer drivers are human and may be running late, or may not show for any number of reasons. . . . . . It is the RESPONSIBILTY OF THE RIDER to look over the appropriate list and make contact with driver(s). If there are problems contacting the individuals listed as drivers, ask any DLV volunteer to identify them to you. Please make a note of who the drivers on your list are, and obtain contact information at one of your first DLV activities. Please touch base with multiple drivers on your list, since all drivers may not be going to all activities. We're asking both drivers and riders to keep in touch with each other during DLV, and exchange information such as what activities a rider plans to attend, and what activities a driver will be driving to. . . . . . Pick-up locations: The rider pick-up location for the Sahara is at the REAR valet park just outside the doors to the left of the hotel registration desk. The rider pick-up location for the Imperial Palace is by the valet park on the semicircular drive, just outside the front doors of the MAIN casino. The rider pick-up location for the San Remo is just outside the main doors on the north side of the casino. The rider pick-up location for the Tropicana is just outside of the main entrance, by the valet parking pick-up area. . . . . . Riders, please note the following: 1. This is not a taxi service. It's as-available transportation to the designated DLV activities at the scheduled rider pick-up times. 2. Please make careful note of the contact information for your driver(s). Please exchange room numbers, pager numbers, and cell phone numbers. 3. It is your responsibility to be at the designated pick-up area at the appropriate pick-up time. 4. Please be prepared to use alternate transportation (taxi, etc.) if it looks like you will be late. PLEASE PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO TIME AND PUNCTUALITY IF YOU NEED A RIDE TO THE SHOWS ON THURSDAY AND/OR SATURDAY. 5. Donations to a driver's gas fund are appreciated and encouraged. :) Picking up your driver's valet parking tip would be appreciated too. :) 6. The DLV contact people can POSSIBLY assist you in getting in touch with a volunteer driver, but SHOULD NOT BE DEPENDED UPON TO GET YOU A RIDE AT SHORT NOTICE. Sorry to keep rubbing this in, but this has been a trouble spot since the early days of DLV. 7. If you go to any of the late night activities, please be prepared to use alternate transportation (taxi, etc.) back to your hotel in the event you wish to stay out later than your driver. 8. Please be prepared to use alternate transportation (taxi, etc) in the event your driver is late, fails to show, or for some reason cannot give you a ride. Although these rides are offered in good faith, it is possible that due to any number of circumstances they may not be available. 9. Please be appreciative and courteous toward your driver(s). They are going out of their way to help make DLV more enjoyable for all! 10. (Yeah yeah, I hate this stuff too, but ...) If you accept a ride during DLV, please do so with the understanding that it is at your own risk, a private arrangement between driver and rider, and that DLV organizers and volunteers cannot be responsible if something awful happens. . . . . . Drivers, please note the following: 1. To identify yourself to those who may not know you or your vehicle by sight, please place a conspicuous black-on-white "DLV" sign inside your windshield to the right side. You can either make these or Annie will give them to you at any of the early activities. 2. The Las Vegas traffic can be extremely slow and congested, especially on the Strip. Particularly problematic areas include the intersection of Flamingo and the Strip, the intersection of Tropicana and the Strip, and the Strip northbound between Tropicana and Flamingo. Please allow a very liberal amount of extra time when planning to pick up people and deliver them to DLV activities. 3. If one (or more) of your riders is running late to the planned activities, especially the time-specific ones such as the shows on Thursday and Saturday, and the dinner on Friday, please do not wait, but deliver your on-time riders. 4. Please be prudent. If you drink and think you may have had too much to drive safely, don't drive. Consider turning over the keys to somebody who is not drinking, or leave your vehicle in place and retrieve it the next day. . . . . . Rides to early DLV activities: For the Tuesday evening DLV activities, where riders may not have had the opportunity to introduce themselves to drivers, please go to your hotel's designated rider pick-up area 30 minutes prior to the start of the HM's Happy Hour or the Welcome Celebration. Look for vehicles with the DLV sign. We're asking all drivers to pass by the pick-up areas 30 minutes prior to the start of the Happy Hour and the Welcome Celebration and closely look for anybody who may be looking for a ride. If you are stuck and need a ride: The DLV contact people will TRY to contact a volunteer driver for you, but should not be depended upon to get you a ride at short notice, or if you are running late. Taxis are very convenient in Las Vegas, and it is quite "safe" for you to use one. Taxi drivers depend on tips for much of their income, so they will seldom if ever jeopardize a tip by being rude or unfriendly. Our people have regularly used Las Vegas taxis since the early days of DLV, and no incidents have been reported. If you need to take a taxi, go to one of the main entrances of any of the major hotels and either join the taxi line or tell the doorman you need a taxi. They are almost always available promptly. In Las Vegas, taxi drivers are supposed to pick up riders only at marked taxi stands or from a radio or phone dispatch. They are not supposed to respond to a "hail" on the street. If you are on the street, walk to the nearest hotel and taxis will usually be waiting. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Alternate e-mail: In case e-mail to both dlv@geekbabe.com and annie@annie.net should fail between now and the end of DLV 2003, use the address: as an alternate means of contact. I DO NOT REGULARLY CHECK THIS ADDRESS, so please use it only if there is a failure in the normal e-mail channels. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Thank you: Diva Las Vegas is a group effort. Several of the people present gave unselfishly their time and effort, and in many cases their own funds, to make DLV happen. Each of those DLV activities you will soon enjoy were "adopted" by one or more volunteers who took the necessary steps to make them happen. Without these efforts there would be no Diva Las Vegas as we know it. You will see these people and get to know them as your peers. If you appreciate their efforts, please tell them thanks, and let them know that what they are doing is truly appreciated. If you feel like doing more than a simple thank you, buy him or her a drink. (There will be many opportunities to do so.) These DLV volunteers are the finest people you will ever meet on either side of life. Everybody has put together their efforts to make something that is indeed greater than the sum of its parts. And, if you're interested in becoming a DLV volunteer, please watch for the "call for volunteers" special mailing following DLV 2003. Shipping clothing: For those who need or want to ship clothing (or other items) for DLV there are several options. PLEASE DISREGARD PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED SHIPPING AND RECEIVING OPTIONS AND USE THESE INSTRUCTIONS ONLY. Most hotels will receive packages for guests. Some hotels, such as the Sahara, have a Business Service Center for this and other related services. There is often times a charge for receiving packages. Contact your hotel directly if you wish to use these services. . . . . . Glamour Boutique has invited DLV people to ship items to their shop in Las Vegas rather than carry them on the airlines. If you're a bit shy of having your baggage searched, this may be an option for you. Diva Las Vegas participants may ship boxes to the Glamour Boutique for pick up when they arrive for this year's events. Boxes must be marked as follows: {Person's Name} c/o Glamour Boutique 714 East Sahara Avenue #250 Las Vegas, NV 89104 >Please call our toll free number (866-692-1800) ahead of time to make >sure our staff is aware of the box's anticpated arrival. We recommend >that you include tracking information with a required signature >because we will not be responsible for any packages not sent this way. . . . . . It's been my personal experience that UPS shipments into and out of the Las Vegas area sometimes take 1-2 days longer than quoted. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Restrooms: This can be a rather tender subject. (Another slice, anyone? :) Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on line. This is not legal advice. It's been reported that there exists a law in Las Vegas (maybe Clark County, maybe Nevada) requiring that one use only the restroom that is intended for his/her anatomical sex. While there may have been such a law at one time, both an attorney and a Metro Police officer state there currently is no such law on the books. (Update: There is a law on the books, part of Clark County Code, under Title 9, Parks and Recreation, which does indeed prohibit males over the age of 8 from using or loitering in the vicinity of womens facilities in PUBLIC PARKS. This appears to be the law that's the basis of this persistent rumor.) There are, however, certain laws of public conduct that may be used, if circumstances warrant, such as trespass and disorderly conduct. For example, if you insist on using the ladies room, against the objection of management, you are liable to be escorted off the property, or even arrested for trespass. If you (actively or passively) create a fuss when using or when asked to leave a ladies room, or when asked to leave the property, you may be charged with disorderly conduct. Time, place, and circumstance should always be taken into consideration, as well as a good dose of common sense. If you don't pass well, or if you are uneasy about it, avoid public restrooms unless you are VERY SURE the management and other patrons will have no objection. The management of most t-friendly clubs and lounges will usually have no such objection, but the management of the family-oriented "theme" properties and tourist attractions might. If you use a public ladies room, be a lady, and be discreet. Get in, do your thing, and get out, all very quietly. Don't push the envelope. And please, DON'T GO TO THE LADIES ROOM IN GROUPS. Please read that last sentence again, noting the use of capital letters for emphasis. This is the most likely way to get yourself, and the group, involved in a restroom incident. Unless you do something to call attention to yourself, it's very unlikely you will be confronted. Remember, that DLV organizers and volunteers don't have the authority to give you permission to enter any areas on private property. If you are confronted, "Densie told me it was ok" probably will not work very well. Bottom line: 1. Use a public ladies room only if you absolutely have to go. 2. Be as non-obvious as possible. 3. NEVER NEVER EVER GO TO A PUBLIC LADIES ROOM IN GROUPS! 4. NEVER NEVER EVER GO TO A PUBLIC LADIES ROOM IN GROUPS! 5. Do not use facilities in public parks. Drinking en femme: This also appears at the URL: http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/fdrinking.html Femme Drinking Tips by Tina Tawdre Many t* girls spend a lot of time in bars. I know I do. Sometimes this is a result of personal lifestyle and entertainment choices, in other instances it is a reflection of how much t* social life involves gay and tranny bars. Even if you are just a social drinker in the privacy of your own or friends' homes, I hope you'll find the following advice interesting and useful. 1). Don't get drunk in public. There are few sights more pathetic than that of a queen down on her knees worshiping the porcelain goddess. Considering the state of most public restrooms, you won't like the memory the next morning. Besides it will ruin your hose, guaranteed. 2). Observe the way genetic girls (GGs) drink in public. It's the same way they do in private. They sip drinks instead of gulping them down. Sipping takes longer, so you'll drink less. 3). Girls use straws. If the bartender doesn't put a straw in your drink, ask him/her for one. If the bartender forgets again for your second drink, then he/she is either incompetent, incredibly absent-minded, or just a jerk.. Unless they have otherwise been very friendly, move to a different part of the bar, or go to a different establishment. Insist on respect, and give your business to places that give you your due. 4). Don't drink shots. They just aren't enjoyable unless you swig them in one gulp, and that just isn't lady-like (even though some GGs do). And, candidly, shots just get you drunk faster. Taboo! 5). Drink plenty of water when drinking alcohol. Alcohol dehydrates you. Dehydration can make a hangover worse. Learn to ask for a glass of water between drinks. You'll drink less, spend less, and avoid drying out your throat (which can help you maintain that pretty feminine voice). 6). Can we talk here? Don't mix sex and binge drinking. If you're at a tranny bar, and you're new to going out dressed, you may be surprised at the number of t* admirers you meet. Their attention can be very flattering, but if too much booze numbs your brain, you may stop thinking sensibly and make some terrible mistakes. Alcohol removes your inhibitions, which is another way of saying that it messes up your normal thinking processes. Keep control, and know what you're doing. You'll enjoy it more if you can remember it. Finally, and I really mean this from the heart, DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE. Take a taxi home. You'll thank yourself in the morning. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Last minute items: We are expecting a very large turnout, even for the early activities. Advance forecast for Las Vegas over the DLV period indicates highs in the high 70's to 80's, lows in the high 50's, partly to mostly sunny, and possibly very breezy. Chance of showers next Tuesday. (Pack an umbrella. It doesn't rain that often, but when it does it POURS!) Advance forecast shows a high of only 68 in the Area 51 vicinity on the 21st. . . . . . T-shirts: As some of you may remember, we had a number of DLV 2001 t-shirts that were unclaimed last year. Particularly troublesome is the northbound Strip from Tropicana to Flamingo, especially around the Harmon intersection. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
