This is the first mailing of the Diva Las Vegas 1999 mailing list. For
those who may not be keeping up, this will be held from Friday, May 14
thru Tuesday, May 18, 1999 (the weekend immediately following
Networld/Interop as before). As before, if you are not able to attend
the entire time, you will be welcome to participate as much as you can.
This year the list will be a bit more organized than before. For the
regular mailings, all the relevant items will be stored in a database
and put together at mailing time. New items will always appear at the
beginning of the mailings.
You can, of course, submit items to this list. One address will be used

There is quite a bit of interest in the affair so far. I'm already
excited about it, and others tell me they are too. I hope each and
every one of you will be able to attend.

Travel Agent:
This year we have a travel agent who is available to help you with your
air and other arrangements. She has worked with the T* community and
her agency is very T-friendly. Please feel free to phone or e-mail
her with your travel requests and questions. I've filled her in on
what the event is and what you will be looking for, such as low-cost
round-trip airfare and possibly air-hotel deals.

Room Sharing:
If you are interested in sharing a room to save $$$, please write to
this list (just hit reply if you are reading via e-mail, otherwise
write to: dlv99@geekbabe.com) and give the following information:
1. Your name
2. Means of contact, e-mail address or voice phone.
3. Important information about yourself, especially about any possibly
annoying habits you have, such as smoking, snoring, midnight CNN
addict, etc.
We will post this to the list, and potential roommates can contact each
other to make specific arrangements.
Please keep in mind that any room-sharing arrangements will be a good-
faith private agreement only between those directly involved, and that
I or any of the others cannot be responsible if there are any problems.

Airport pickup:
I'm willing to pick up anybody who is attending at the airport (or
train/bus station). I'll need to know your airline, flight number, and
arrival time. I'll be arriving in LV Friday morning, so let me know if
you want a ride from the airport and I'll adjust my schedule to pick
you up.

Door Prizes:
As we did last year, we're soliciting donations of small items to be
given to the lucky (??) winners of a drawing. These can be useful in
nature, or humorous. Last year we had such things as an Epilady, a
home electrolysis unit, and some jewelry items.

and describe your donation, and state if you want your donation to
be in your name or anonymous.

This discusses every money-saving hint about Las Vegas I could run down
or think of.
The most significant item is to SEVERELY LIMIT THE AMOUNT YOU SPEND ON
GAMING, to take advantage of the subsidized food, hotel, etc., without
giving it back at the tables. A recent survey in _Las_Vegas_Style_
magazine stated that Las Vegas visitors will spend (translated: lose)
more on gaming than they will spend on air fare, hotel room, and
food/drink combined.
The second most significant item is TO BOOK YOUR AIR FARE EARLY.
With very rare exception, the price for this will not go down as the
date approaches.
